Are role models a good influence in young people?

Some people mostly parents are worried about who their children are being influenced in the internet, so some parents react by prohibiting youtubers, tik tokers or any other tipe of influencer that they think could negatively influence their beloved children. Now this is a common response, everyone is scared of the unknown at some point, but what this kind of parents are missing is they do not make any research about what their children are watching, so are they really bad or good? I would say none, it depends on who they are watching.

I think that we should not generalize in this topic, because as always there are good and bad people in social media and internet, so if you see your children are being influenced by someone, before prohibiting them I think you should see some of their content and then judge if it is appropiate to their respective age so that then you don't have any further discussions with your children, especially if they are teenagers.

Also another reason to not forbid social media to your children is that there are a lot of super helpful influencers like Veritasium for example who try to teach and get science closer to a younger audience, they try to inspire you, and who knows? maybe one of this influencers will someday inspire someone who will change the world.

So in conclusion, role models in the internet are not either good or bad, they just are (if we generalize), we have to see every specific case to be able to say if they will have a good or bad impact in the next generations, but prohibiting all of them just beacuse some are bad is like prohibiting medicine because some people die with them.
