Rekindling Relationships with Old Friends
Today, I messaged an old friend of mine I use to work with a year ago. We hadn’t spoken since we used to work together. I messaged her wishing her a happy birthday, expecting a thanks back and that would be it. Amusingly she did not know who I was. I can only assume she deleted my number expecting us not to talk, which in truth is likely, and which I do not blame her for as I do the same thing.
I jokingly said that she had three guesses to guess who I was, which moments after the text was followed by a phone call. It started out with her on edge thinking it was a creep or stalker. Once I broke the news to her of who I was she sparked up in conversation enthusiastically. The conversation erupted with genuine concern and interest in one another’s life. Naturally we spoke of the past and reminisced in the good time we had together and then spoke of the present and future. The conversation lasted for around 30 minuets of uninterrupted conversation and it would have lasted longer if I wasn’t caught off guard by the call.
One message to take away from this is that company (a persons company) is a currency many desire despite irrelevancy. To add to the rule I have to assume some kind of relationship would have had to have developed previously in time, to make the currency worth more.
I used to think that nobody really wanted to speak to me and that I was uninteresting, I was wrong then. If you ever think you are not worthwhile to talk to or that somebody does not want to speak to you, you are most likely mistaken and are probably desiring the conversation as much as the other person.
To add as a final entry, I enjoyed this so much I intend to rekindle many of my past relationships once I have returned home from university. This means not to hold onto a grudge I had, unknowingly with a past friendship group (meaning I never told them why I stopped speaking to them to a significant level). This is where I will confront my past errors and at least attempt to amend bridges. This will make me a stronger person whether I am successful or not.

Current Keyboard Skill
Currently, I am feeling confident learning new songs on the keyboard. The songs I know and have attempted (listed with the percentage of self estimated skill level & order I learnt the songs in) are:
Sunrising (Metal Gear Song) - 90%
Mad World - 95%
Your Reality (Doki Doki Literature Club) - 10%
Pumped Up Kicks - 5%
Requiem For a Dream - 50%
In The Hall of The Mountain King - 80%
Where Is My Mind (Maxence Cyrin Cover) - 10%
I am happy with what I currently know and will most likely continue learning more songs before finishing some of the songs I have learnt. I now have a 88 key keyboard and will now have no restraints on the songs I can play. It is pressure sensitive (louder if pushed harder)), forcing me to adapt my strength on each key giving me a new ability to learn, however I am still an amateur at this.
I can also now play reasonably well with two hands but I still feel like a beginner at this too. I have learnt to play out of sync with my other hand making the songs better and sounding as the songs should.

A Change in Perception
Today I went into the Library to finish of some of my work on a group project and I saw a beautiful sight. I saw myself. My usual self reflection is nothing more than a diffident, young man with no ambition or future prospects to achieve, at least it was last time I remember before I came to university. Today however, I saw a 20 year old man with a confident body posture, strolling out of a library door as if he was a celebrity who achieved greatness.
What brought on this moment? Is it that I did around 3 hours of hard work throughout the day on this group assignment? No. Is it that I have be visiting the gym to better my body? No. Is it that my leisure time is now filled with worthwhile activities and hobbies in my life now? No. It is every single one of these aspects. I saw a strong back with high shoulders tilted back, I saw a beautiful smile complemented with bright warm blue eyes, I saw a man with ambitions for his future, I saw true self reliance from a man incapable of independence, I saw competence and knowledge and finally compassion for life. I am no longer a boy but a man who has something to prove.
To finish of this short but meaning experience I reveled in this glorious sight I though I could never see. This may seem exaggerated but it is all true. I got very emotional on the walk back and almost cried at this change in attitude towards my life. I thought about all the meaningful thing I will achieve from this change I had made and all the happiness down the road I could expect. This observation has made me very happy today.

Self Learning Japanese
Another one of my goals is to learn Japanese. I chose, what I imagine to be, a hard language to learn as it is filled with symbols and weird words. I also chose it because I believe the Japanese culture is very different to most and that inspired me to learn it. I would say the fact that I watch some anime didn’t actually effect this as I watch it in dubbed.
Japanese is more complex than I imagined, so far. Did you know they have 3 alphabets. I think there is like a different name other than alphabet but they have 3 alphabets which are Hiragana, Katakana and Kanji. So far I know Hiragana to a good extent. I cannot write the letters, but can recognize them if I see them written down. I can sometime get pronunciations of the words wrong however I believe a lot of has got to do with their grammatical rules in writing which I need to learn.
For a point of reference, I started learning it on the 26/03/2018.

Keyboard Progression
I have progressed in the song I originally set out to learn (Metal Gear - Sunrising). I can now almost play it to it’s end. I remember when I started this and I thought it would be super hard to even learn this one song. However I have almost prevailed in almost 3 months. I have been looking up other song I have been wanting to learn too.
The list so far is: Bad Medicine -  Lars Erik Fjøsne (Although the music sheet I have is very brief and sounds a bit off when I play it so I assume it isn’t entirely accurate), Mad World - Gary Jules (I can already play to around 20% of the song with both hands with decent timing although there are milliseconds which is something I need to personally improve), Your Reality - Doki Doki Literature Club/Team Salvato and For the Damaged Coda - Blonde Redhead.
I am really excited to learn these. I am picturing myself showing off my skills in front of my friends and seeing them all being really impressed with me.
I am still a beginner at this and I know I still have much to learn on the keyboard however just thinking about it is exciting me, where I can one day picture myself performing complex and difficult songs like a master.

My Journey Through Life
I am using this as a marker to track my progress in life. This specific post is to mark a point that I started to learn the keyboard, that I should have done earlier at some point (but didn’t) so I calculate the exact time frame it took me to learn this.
Anyway in short, I am learning the keyboard for my own personal gratification. I started at around late January time but I do not know the specific date. Therefore I will use the 1st of February as it is near to when I think it was when I started leaning it.
Currently I already know around half of the song I am learning (Metal Gear - Sunrising). My pace is acceptable but I have noticed that I can speed up to get to the part I am up to, so I can learn the rest of the song. I should stop this as it can potentially ruin the song when it is completed by having to use a slower pace that will feel unnatural to my usual pace and will be harder to correct when I know all the keys and can play it fluently.
Using two hands is much harder than I though. I can use my left hand (less dominate hand) for a little bit of the beginning of the song however, it is hard for me to keep this up during the rest of the song.
I have gone about this by learning it with one hand first, then picking up the rest with my other hand as I progress (so when I learn’t 40% with one hand I learn’t the first 10% with the other hand). This was a good decision to make since I have never used both hands before (this is my first time trying to learn the keyboard). If I went about learning it with one hand throughout and then learning using two hands would make it completely different as I would have to spend a lot more time learning to play two-handed instead of one. By regularly using them together I am improving my skills at two-handed keyboard and will make it easier for later to pick up two-handed keyboard playing once I have completed it with one hand.
