Back in our first of three Independences – Independence, KS – I spent a lot of time at the wall of barbed wire in the city’s historical museum. I kept thinking about the farmers and ranchers back in the 1800s, always trying to think up better ways to keep cattle in (or out).
And the names! “Allis’ Buckthorn.” “Edward M. Crandal’s Telegraph Splice.” “Curtis Crosslock.”
A bunch of these even got patents.
I was secretly hoping we could get to the Barbed Wire Museum in the Barbed Wire Capital of the World - La Crosse, KS - on this trip, but our route took us east, instead. Next trip?
