getting an archaeology degree did not make me smarter but it did take me from “lmao isn’t it funny some people think the pyramids were built by aliens” to “i will put venomous snakes in your washing machine if you so much as lightly suggest the pyramids were built by aliens”

It’s important to know that hijab is banned in schools in most of the european countries, such as france, belgium, switzerland etc. Millions of girls have to take their hijab off everyday in order to have access to education, and I am one of them. Please spread this as much as possible, it has become so normal here that I feel like a fool for even mentioning it, but I’m pretty sure it goes against the human rights. This senseless law has been on since 2004 and pretends that all the students have to be “equal” and it is prohibited to show that you belong to any religion, any religious sign must be set aside. However, most of us have to take our hijab off in schools where you can clearly see a christmas tree or a christian cross. “Yeah but it’s not the same”, they say. Tell me about double standards. I pray for days when we don’t have to chose between religion and education.

REPRESENTATION MATTERS!
Tumblr media
What an inspiring image! Representatives Christina Haswood and Ponka We-Victors work traditional native Regalia to be sworn into office in the Kansas House of Representatives. Bravo!
“It was important for everyone to see that we Indigenous peoples are still here, and in rooms such as the Kansas House Chamber, any attempt to dehumanize or attack Native peoples, did not work and will continue to fail,” Haswood says. “Also, I wanted to show all the other Indigenous folks that we belong here, and you too can become a lawmaker for your state. Because when I was growing up, I never saw Natives in political positions outside of tribal politics.”

When I was very young, I think I was about five years old, I got a bitty baby doll for Christmas. Of course because I got her from my extremely evangelical grandparents, I named her Mary. Now bitty babies were made by American Girl, so you could get them clothes out of their magazines and the stores too (if you had the money of course, that shit was expensive). And I had really wanted an American Girl doll, but I got Mary instead. And to be honest I remember being a little upset.
The dolls had stuffed centers covered with fabric but plastic arms, legs, and heads. The heads had eyes that would open and close when you would lay them down, to look like they were sleeping. And they had painted on hair, light and wispy just like a real baby.
Of course I ended up loving that doll. I took her everywhere with me. And when I couldn’t take her I left her sitting on my bed, with her eyes open, so she could see when I got back home. I would dress her in pajamas every night and sleep with her in my bed, even though sometimes her little plastic arms and legs made me uncomfortable. Because she was my baby, and my friend. She was the only baby doll I had after that. I didn’t want any other ones, I had found Mary.
Now all of the playtime and dragging her everywhere started to take a toll on Mary, and I began to notice that one of her eyes started drooping, and it wouldn’t open or close. I was beside myself with worry. I begged and begged my mom to fix her, of course she couldn’t. She told me that only the Doll Doctors could fix her, so I begged her to take her there. So when my cousin (who did have an American Girl Doll) decided that she wanted to go to the American Girl Doll store in Chicago for her birthday,I was SO happy! I could finally get Mary to see the Doll Doctors.
When we got there I remember getting out of the car and it was snowing and raining, and all around unpleasant outside. I had brought Mary and dressed her in my favorite pink dress (with matching booties of course). We walk in and it’s HUGE in there. There are clothes and shoes and toys and there was even this beauty parlor for the the American Girl Dolls to get their hair styled! I was in heaven.
After some time walking around and begging my mom for things that were WAY too expensive for us, we made it to the “hospital.” Im sure my mom was filling out paperwork or paying or something. But I was busey just looking around, until one of the workers told me it was time to say goodbye. I guess I didn’t realize that they had to take Mary for an extended period of time. As you could guess I wasn’t too happy about it, but begrudgingly, I gave her over. They told me that she would be flying home soon after her stay in the hospital. Then we left.
I don’t remember much in between that and getting her back, but I was so happy when I did. I opened up her box and she was in a hospital gown! They had folded her clothes up and put them in a little suitcase. They gave me little medical toys, to make sure that she stayed healthy. She even came with paperwork, showing all the “tests” she had and her “diagnosis” too. It made me cherish Mary more after that. I was less rough with her. We still played of course, I just had more respect for how I treated my friend. It also made me realize that hospitals were places were people, and dolls, went to get better. Not to die. And that taking care of your health is important if you want to keeping playing.
I think toy doctors are so nice actually like i remember being a little heartbroken kid when one of my beloved stuffed animals got old and torn up and my mom just threw him out. And i know what it would have meant to me, to have someone lovingly stitch him back up instead so i could love him just a little longer. And I'm really glad there are little kids out there who get to see pictures of their stuffed animals and dolls with little fake hospital beds and casts as they "rest & heal" before returning to them good as new. Like what a sweet thing to do with your life.
