Brian Littrell: 'Nick Carter's rape case will blow away' - Music News
http://www.internetunleashed.co.uk/?p=36980 Brian Littrell: 'Nick Carter's rape case will blow away' - Music News - http://www.internetunleashed.co.uk/?p=36980 Backstreet Boys singer Brian Littrell is standing by bandmate Nick Carter amid his ongoing rape investigation, insisting his pal won't face charges. A claim made against the pop star by Melissa Schuman, who featured in the girl group Dream, has been placed under review by the Los Angeles County District Attorney. She filed a police complaint in Santa Monica, California in February (18), accusing Nick of sexually assaulting her back in 2002, after previously going public with the allegations online last year (17), claiming the incident took place at the Quit Playing Games (with My Heart) singer's home when she was 18 and he was 22. Nick responded by insisting the sex he had with Melissa, his co-star in 2004 TV movie The Hollow, was consensual. Officials at the Los Angeles Police Department's Special Crimes unit investigated the complaint, and they have since handed their findings over to the District Attorney to determine if Nick should face charges, according to TMZ. But his bandmate, Littrell, is still convinced Carter will not face rape charges. "He has our full support," the singer tells the news outlet. "This has been going on for a long time and unfortunately there are fame seekers that are out there. "He's been forthright and honest with us and we have to stand beside our bandmate... We feel confident but it is what it is... It's the world we live in and everybody wants to know something or get something on somebody." Source link

London venue The Garage threatened by redevelopment works to Highbury & Islington station
http://www.internetunleashed.co.uk/?p=36975 London venue The Garage threatened by redevelopment works to Highbury & Islington station - http://www.internetunleashed.co.uk/?p=36975 "We want to ensure the future of the Garage by strengthening ties with our local community". London music venue The Garage could be demolished to make way for a new ticket hall at Highbury & Islington station. According to the Islington Gazette, the venue’s management are leading calls for its future to be secured by becoming an asset of community value. Their appeal comes after the paper gained access to council planning documents which suggest that it could be forced to close as part of the redevelopment of Highbury station. The Garage’s programmer Matthew Cook told the Gazette: “We believe we’re a site of local importance bringing a vibrant musical culture to Islington. “With so many of London’s beloved music venues under threat from developers, we want to ensure the future of the Garage by strengthening ties with our local community.” Since opening in 1993, the intimate venue has secured a reputation for hosting shows from some of the UK’s biggest bands during the early stages of their career. It also played host to a late night secret show from The Killers in 2013, only hours after they finished playing a sold out show at Wembley Stadium. A Transport for London (TfL) spokesperson added: “We are in early discussions about the possibility of upgrading Highbury and Islington Tube station and will engage with businesses and stakeholders as any plans are developed.”   Source link

Galaxy Note 9 could make Samsung fans choose between price and performance
http://www.internetunleashed.co.uk/?p=36969 Galaxy Note 9 could make Samsung fans choose between price and performance - http://www.internetunleashed.co.uk/?p=36969 The Galaxy Note 9 is one of the most highly anticipated smartphones of the year and looks set to contend with the likes of the OnePlus 6, Google Pixel 3 and Galaxy S9 to be the greatest Android device available.Samsung is hosting its latest Unpacked event in New York City today at 11am local time and 4pm BST.Galaxy Note 9 is expected to bring supercharged specifications, huge amounts of storage and a battery capable of lasting all day and then some. But the phone has been plagued by leaks that appear to have lifted the lid on a number of surprises the South Korean technology giant had in store.WinFuture recently posted images of alleged marketing material for the phablet that showed it featuring a brand new S Pen with Bluetooth support capable of performing a variety of functions.Part of the document reads: "The all new S Pen now boasts powerful Bluetooth technology, letting you press a button to take control of your camera, presentations, and apps without touching your phone."Such a leak lines up with teases from Samsung that appeared to focus on the S Pen as an area of improvement for the Note 9.But the German Outlet also insisted the phone will come in two variants, with one featuring 8GB of RAM and the other with 6GB.The higher-specced version of the Note 9 was said to be priced at £1,099 while the flagship with slightly downgraded internals at £899.Such a move could force Samsung fans to choose between price and performance when looking to purchase their new device. If the South Korean technology giant did decide to include greater amounts of RAM in the higher-priced version of the Note 9, it would not be the first time customers have had to make a tough choice. The Galaxy S9 was priced at £739 at launch and featured 4GB of RAM.However the Galaxy S9+ was priced at £869 and came with an extra 2GB of RAM, taking its tally to 6GB.Unlike the differences between the two S9 devices however, all models of the Note 9 are expected to come with a dual-lens camera system. The latest set of leaks from WinFuture declared the Galaxy Note 9 will come with the same "Dual Aperture" lens first introduced in the Galaxy S9 and S9+.Marketing material obtained by the publication also hinted the phablet will harness the power of artificial intelligence (AI) to make user photos look better than ever.It said: "New revolutionary features make it nearly impossible to take a bad shot."The Galaxy Note 9 intelligently recognises what you're looking at, optimising colour settings like contrast, white balance, exposure and more."And by detecting blinks and blurs, you can reshoot while the moment's right."Samsung fans will not have to wait long to hear further details on the Galaxy Note 9's pricing and availability. The South Korean tech giant is holding its Unpacked event in New York City today.Express.co.uk will be covering the exhibition and bringing you all the details live Source link

Overwatch League Grand Finals Reached Nearly 11 Million Viewers
http://www.internetunleashed.co.uk/?p=36961 Overwatch League Grand Finals Reached Nearly 11 Million Viewers - http://www.internetunleashed.co.uk/?p=36961 Blizzard has released some key figures from this past weekend's Overwatch League Grand Finals--and they're huge. The event brought in 10.8 million viewers worldwide, Blizzard said. The Grand Finals consisted of two matches in two days. To put the figure into perspective, 10.8 million viewers is more than total number of viewers for all of the Week 1 matches earlier in the year. For the important 18-34 demographic, the Finals attracted an "average minute audience" of 605,013. With rebroadcast figures added in, the average minute audience for both days was more than 1 million, Blizzard said. The event was available to watch in lots and lots of locations, including Twitch and MLG, as well as broadcast TV in the United States on ESPN channels. Highlights of the tournament were shown on ABC. And in China, the matches were shown on ZhangQi TV, NetEase CC, and Panda TV. In South Korea, the finals aired on MBC. The London Spitfire beat the Philadelphia Fusion 2-0 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York to win the inaugural Overwatch League Grand Finals. While the first season has ended, there will be an All-Star Weekend event coming up later this month with some of the best players from the league facing off. In other Overwatch League news, the league recently added teams in Atlanta, Georgia and Guangzhou, China for the second season. Source link

Uranus is in retrograde and it's bringing disruption to everyone’s lives
http://www.internetunleashed.co.uk/?p=36949 Uranus is in retrograde and it's bringing disruption to everyone’s lives - http://www.internetunleashed.co.uk/?p=36949 Uranus in retrograde is bringing disruption [Getty/Nasa.gov] Uranus being in retrograde is about to bring some big changes to your life, as it joins some of the other planets including Mercury, Mars, Saturn, Neptune and Pluto in changing movement. The cycle lasts 155 days in which the planet moves four degrees backwards through the zodiac. The movement of Uranus – which is the most eccentric planet – can cause sudden changes, bringing disruption until 6 January 2019 after it began its course on 7 August 2018. According to Astrology King, Uranus retrograde affects 40 per cent of the population and we’re all about to get a bit more aloof and agitated because of it. Uranus will be in retrograde until January 2019 [Getty] Uranus in retrograde could cause relationship problems [Getty] It could also spark a disruptive energy, making us all a little more anxious and neurotic. You should also prepare to feel cut off from friends and become somewhat rebellious. Not only that, but everyone’s love lives and finances are also said to be affected – and not in the way you'd hope. You may find your loved one becomes cold and your credit card reaches its limit, or you're hit with a hefty bill. The movement of Uranus could also cause financial woes [Getty] We should apparently also be prepared for our patience to be tested but we must remain cautious not to act rashly. Astrology King advise: “Awareness of this dynamic energy can instead lead to inventive and creative breakthroughs and a reinvigorated personal life.” These next few months everyone is encouraged to find a creative outlet socially, sexually or through a hobby. “Your goal is to get your kinky or dangerous desires out of your system in a safe way without upsetting others,” the astrologers warn. In the meantime, we must all remain open-minded and willing to compromise to keep our relationships on track. window.fbAsyncInit = function () { FB.init({ appId: '543301995758445', xfbml: true, version: 'v2.8' }); }; (function (d, s, id) { var js, fjs = d.getElementsByTagName(s)[0]; if (d.getElementById(id)) { return; } js = d.createElement(s); js.id = id; js.src = "http://connect.facebook.net/en_GB/sdk.js"; fjs.parentNode.insertBefore(js, fjs); }(document, 'script', 'facebook-jssdk')); Source link

M25 traffic: Dartford Crossing to suffer delays for 45 HOURS as huge transformer moved | UK | News
http://www.internetunleashed.co.uk/?p=36945 M25 traffic: Dartford Crossing to suffer delays for 45 HOURS as huge transformer moved | UK | News - http://www.internetunleashed.co.uk/?p=36945 The monster electrical equipment will crawl at 12mph as it makes its way from Tilbury Docks in Essex to West Weybridge substation in Surrey. The 56 mile journey will take so long as the equipment will be transported on a specialist vehicle which is more than 68 metres long and 5.3mph.The journey starts at 7pm on Friday August 17 and ends at 4pm on Sunday, August 19. It includes includes a 26 hour stop at Clacket Services from Saturday at 4am, so it can finish the route on Sunday when there is less traffic on the road.National Grid has sent letters to residents warning of potential chaos. It has even had to trim hedges to make sure there is enough space to move the transformer through, with local roads also making up some of the route. The 143 tonne lorry needs to divert off the motorway as soon as it crosses the Queen Elizabeth bridge to snake through local roads due to a weight restriction between junctions 1A and 2 of the M25.The transformer will be used to deliver electricity to the south of England. Most of National Grid’s substations were built between the Fifties and Seventies and equipment such as transformers need to be replaced to keep them working efficiently.New transformers are also installed to connect new sources of generation or when demand for electricity is growing.Aleksandra Zefirova, National Grid Project Engineer said: “Our network operates smoothly, safely and efficiently over 99.9999% of the time – a statistic we’re very proud of. Millions of people rely on us to supply their electricity without interruption, day in, day out and so it’s important that we keep our substations and the equipment in them working efficiently.”The transformer’s route will be:From Tilbury Docks on the A109 north until it meets the A13.West along the A13 to the A1306.A1306 until the junction of the A282, towards the QEII bridge on the Dartford Crossing.Exit the at junction 1A and go along the A206, B255 and A2 before rejoining the M25 at junction 2.Exit M25 at Clackett Services between junction 5 and 6 for 26 hour break.Rejoin M25 until junction 11 and onto the A320 south.Turn to the A245 and B385 Woodham Lane.Turn into Pinewood Grove, then left into Parkside and into the substation.Anyone with information about the delivery can call the National Grid hotline on 0800 019 3235 between 9am and 5.30pm or email [email protected]. The information I have is no. I'm not confident, I'm not confident as the market closes today so it is time at least for me to stop thinking about the market because the market will be closed.“So will have to focus on the players I have and in relation to this first couple of matches, maybe three matches because after Spurs there is national team and a couple of weeks to recover people and prepare people better, is to focus on players available so I'm not thinking about that unavailable list I give you, I focus on what we have.”Transfer news: Man Utd, Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool could all do business on deadline day (Image: GETTY)'Sorry, I splashed your reporters!'09:30: An apology from Patrick van Aanholt… he’s just splashed a Sky Sports News reporter on his way into the training ground! The Crystal Palace defender has just tweeted: “Think I just splashed one of your reporters @SkySportsNews ...I’ll warn the boys of the puddle as they enter training sooooorrryyyy! #DeadlineDay.”At least he hasn’t put any sex toys in their ears…Man Utd transfer latest - two odds-on to join09:15: Two players are odds-on with Ladbrokes to join Manchester United before 5pm today. As things stand Harry Maguire looks set for a move, with the bookies pricing up his chances of leaving Leicester for Manchester at 10/11.But the more likely United signing is Toby Alderweireld, with 2/5 now on offer for the Tottenham ace to make a Deadline Day move. Meanwhile, Yerry Mina (9/2) and Jerome Boateng (5/1) deals look unlikely.Alex Apati of Ladbrokes said: "Mourinho hasn't had the best of summers but there could be two more big names on their way to Old Trafford by close of play today."West Ham transfer news: Lucas Perez is still expected to sign (Image: TWITTER)West Ham transfer news - Lucas Perez still expected09:10: Lucas Perez has not officially signed but West Ham insider @ExWHUemployee still expects it to be done.Ex, a reliable source of Hammers transfer news, tweeted last night: "The deal is still on course to be completed but there is an agent issue that needs sorting."As for Carlos Sanchez, that remains in the balance. The combination of City Football Group’s global football structure and the world-leading City Football Academy facilities create an environment in which this pathway can become well-trodden.”He is now set to be sent on loan.Transfer news: Man City have signed Daniel Arzani, who will now go out on loan (Image: GETTY)Chelsea double signing - Kovacic and Kepa08:40: Chelsea have made Kepa Arrizabalaga the world's most expensive goalkeeper as Maurizio Sarri's men swiftly moved to replace Real Madrid-bound Thibaut Courtois.Months of speculation surrounding the Belgium goalkeeper came to an end on Wednesday evening when it was announced that he would get his dream move to the Spanish capital. The deal that sees Courtois join Real Madrid for a reported £35million sees midfielder Mateo Kovacic head the other way on a season-long loan. But it is Chelsea's move to replace their first-choice goalkeeper that is most eye-catching.Kepa has signed a seven-year deal after joining from Athletic Bilbao, who confirmed earlier in the day that the 23-year-old's release clause of £72.1m was activated and his contract terminated.Man Utd transfer news - four names in frame08:00: Jose Mourinho has a race against time to strengthen his squad today. Here’s the state of play.England's World Cup star Harry Maguire has been among the main targets this summer but Leicester have repeatedly made it clear that the defender is not for sale. However, Express Sport understands he DOES want to move to Old Trafford. As for Tottenham's Toby Alderweireld, talks remain ongoing but it’s likely to depend on how things progress with Maguire. While United's interest in imposing Barcelona defender Yerry Mina is tempered by financial demands. That deal does not appear to be dead just yet and Jerome Boateng is another option, although Bayern Munich are understood not to be keen to sanction a loan deal that United would like.Transfer news: Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho has had a hugely frustrating summer (Image: GETTY)Liverpool transfer news latest07:50: So Liverpool won’t bring in any fresh faces today - not even Nabil Fekir, despite every Liverpool fan seemingly wanting him.But the Reds do want to sell with Divock Origi and Lazar Markovic potentially leaving.Spanish outlet El Desmarque claim Crystal Palace have tabled a bid worth £16.2million to sign Divock Origi while La Liga giants Valencia are also interested. The 23-year-old is surplus to requirements after a disappointing loan spell with German side Wolfsburg last season.Transfer news: Divock Origi is a target for Crystal Palace (Image: GETTY)Arsenal may make defender signing07:30: Starting at Arsenal and they may be bringing in a defender before today’s transfer deadline, says Sky Sports reporter Gail Davis.“If it is to be anybody, it’s likely to be a defender,” she told Sky Sports News.“If you look at who they’ve got, Laurent Koscielny is out with his Achilles until December, Sead Kolasinac got injured in pre-season.“Nacho Monreal is just on his way back but they are a little bit short there.“Lots of speculation around the Croatian defender over the past few days, Domagoj Vida.“He helped his country to the World Cup final, plays for Besiktas.”Transfer news: Tottenham want Jack Grealish but Aston Villa are adamant they're not selling. (Image: GETTY)Deadline day live - clubs have until 5pm to do deals07:00: The deadline day madness has started with Premier League clubs having until 5pm to complete any new signings.Manchester United and Chelsea are expected to be busiest while Liverpool will move to trim their squad rather than add to it.A couple of early notes for the diary... Jose Mourinho is due to speak at 9.30am while Totenham boss Mauricio Pochettino will hold a press conference at 12.30pm. The pair of them have both had hugely frustrating windows - but will they do any late deals today?Jack Grealish, pictured above, is wanted and he is desperate to move to north London. However, Aston Villa are saying a firm 'no'. Will be one to watch today for sure. Source link

Nick told his radio show listeners that they'd shared a bed at the musical festival, but that all was not as it seemed. He said: "Over the course of the weekend, we got closer and closer… then we all went to watch the Rolling Stones and we ended up watching it with all our friends who were in relationships. Nick and Rita (Image: PA) They were judges together on the X Factor (Image: ITV) "Then it would get to a romantic Rolling Stones song or a bit of a moment or an acoustic moment, you know there's flares going off, everyone's cuddling and stuff, and we were like, 'Why don't we have boyfriends?' "So then we decided to get off with each other for a bit." The DJ was then asked if tongues were involved during the smooch to which he responded: "Yeah! I don't know how to do it without tongues!" http://www.internetunleashed.co.uk/?p=36933 Lance Bass Might Be Involved in HGTV's New 'Brady Bunch' House Project - http://www.internetunleashed.co.uk/?p=36933 Lance Bass HGTV Wants Him in 'Brady' House Show ... Someway, Somehow 8/9/2018 12:50 AM PDT EXCLUSIVE Lance Bass might have lost a bidding war with HGTV over the 'Brady Bunch' house -- but he's still got a shot to be a part of the iconic property's future ... TMZ has learned. Sources close to the situation tell us HGTV brass privately reached out to the 'NSYNC singer Tuesday after he publicly reacted to news the network was the mysterious "corporate buyer" that beat him out in what he initially called a shady deal.  Aww, thanks @LanceBass. Consider yourself officially part of the HGTV bunch! Yours truly, HGTV (aka The Lance Bass Fan Club) https://t.co/m09akz1ezq — HGTV (@hgtv) August 7, 2018 We're told HGTV and Lance are scheduled to meet next week to discuss getting him involved in the network's future plans with the house -- namely, restoring it to its 1970s form on the inside for a new TV show. The crib's remained pretty much the same on the outside. It's unclear what role Lance would play on the project, but we're told anything from producing to even hosting is possible ... and he's open for anything. If everything works out, the stars will truly align for Lance. Sources close to the singer tell us his original plan -- had he won the bidding war -- was to gut the inside and recreate the TV set. He won't own it, but sounds like Lance may yet see his dream come true. Source link

Screening fails to predict most heart deaths in young soccer players
http://www.internetunleashed.co.uk/?p=36930 Screening fails to predict most heart deaths in young soccer players - http://www.internetunleashed.co.uk/?p=36930 (Reuters Health) - Examinations of more than 11,000 adolescent soccer players in the UK over 20 years have found that routine heart testing prevented very few sudden heart-related deaths during exercise. One in 266 players were found to have a heart problem that might cause sudden death. Just 1 in 1,396 died suddenly from some form of heart disease, totaling eight cases. But six of those eight athletes had passed the one-time heart screening, which used both electrocardiograms (ECGs) and ultrasound. The cost of screening: $3.8 million or $342 per teenager from 1996 through 2016. The cost of identifying any child with heart disease: $16,167 per case. Lead author Dr. Aneil Malhotra of the University of London, said the study is the first to give a reliable estimate of the risk. He said it does not suggest that screening is not worth the expense. In fact, the English Football Association, which helped fund the study, has intensified its call for testing, he told Reuters Health in a telephone interview. The association is now recommending both tests at age 16 with follow-up ECGs at ages 18, 20 and even 25 because heart problems can develop in young adulthood. “Cynics would say perhaps screening is not effective because six of eight deaths were missed,” said Malhotra. But the argument could be made that the heart problems that caused the deaths had not developed at the time of screening and “some may have displayed an abnormal ECG later on down the line.” “This is very important and informs us that a one-off screen in an adolescent may not be sufficient and that serial assessments may be necessary,” the study’s senior author, Dr. Sanjay Sharma of the University of London, said in an email. “These are elite-level soccer players” Malhotra said, so when all children who play soccer are included, “we think this is a minimum estimate of cardiac death. This is the tip of the iceberg.” But Dr. Naomi Kertesz, a pediatric cardiologist at The Heart Center at Nationwide Children’s Hospital in Columbus, Ohio, who was not involved in the research, said the findings show that “screening once isn’t going to do it for you. And these are not inexpensive tests.” She argued in a phone interview that emphasis should be redirected toward a better solution - making automated defibrillators (AEDs) for restoring a normal heart rhythm widely available in areas where a player is likely to collapse, along with making sure lots of people know how to use them in conjunction with performing simple push-on-the-chest cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). “Over 80 percent of the time the rhythm you’re going to die from is something I can fix with an AED. But you have 3 to 5 minutes to fix it,” she said. “No child is allowed to play football unless you have a mouthguard, yet none of the coaches have an AED with them” because the devices are often stored minutes away in a gym or somewhere else in the school. And most staff don’t know how to use them because there’s little training, a problem that extends to schools in general, not just on the playing field, she warned. “We have to run fire drills and active shooter drills. Once a year, you can’t run a sudden cardiac arrest or emergency medical drill?” Nonetheless, Kertesz characterized the new research, published in the New England Journal of Medicine, as “an incredibly important study because there has been a discussion on the utility of screening that has been going on for a long time.” The heart risk faced by athletes has been hard to estimate because there is no systematic registry of such deaths, the study authors note. The new data came from the English Football Association, which began its mandatory cardiac screening program for promising young soccer players in 1997. Many of the heart problems that were uncovered were considered minor, such as a misfiring valve. In all, 2.4 percent of the screened children had some type of heart condition. Just 42 players, or 0.38 percent, were identified as having a problem capable of causing sudden death. Most made it back onto the field with treatment. Two continued to play against medical advice and both died from sudden cardiac arrest. “We cannot predict what would have happened to the other 42 if they had not been identified but it is possible that the screening program may have prevented some fatalities,” Sharma said. Virgin Mobile sees modest gains in Q2
http://www.internetunleashed.co.uk/?p=36922 Virgin Mobile sees modest gains in Q2 - http://www.internetunleashed.co.uk/?p=36922 Virgin Media added 16,000 new mobile customers during the second quarter of 2018 as total subscriber numbers remained static at three million.Mobile revenues rose by 16.1 per cent thanks to higher revenue from handset sales, but this was partially offset by lower mobile subscription income. Two thirds of all mobile customers are now using 4G, while a third have now been migrated to Virgin’s “full” Mobile Virtual Network Operator (MVNO) platform. Virgin Mobile UK Virgin Mobile was the first MVNO when it launched in 1999, using what was then One2One’s network to power its services. It renewed its wholesale deal with EE last year, allowing Virgin to build a ‘thick’ MVNO with greater control over billing, SIM provision and other network components. This means it’s easier for Virgin Media to rollout new services, avoiding a repeat of the delayed launch of 4G, which only took place in late 2016.It was a successful quarter for the UK’s largest cable provider, whose fixed network now reaches 14.2 million premises. Total customer ARPU rose 1.6 per cent to £51.11 thanks to new and existing customers taking out 112,000 new services during the three months – a record for the company.A particular highlight was the addition of 31,000 broadband subscribers.Total revenues increase by 4.1 per cent to $1.6 billion, which helped boost parent company Liberty Global’s income by 2.7 per cent to $3 billion.“Enhanced broadband speeds and the continued roll out of our V6 set top box helped deliver a substantial increase in our triple-play acquisitions, improved growth on our existing footprint and increased ARPU,” said Liberty Global CEO Mike Fries.
