He/him đłď¸âđ home of Kaiva Gray and too many OCs to list them all. many will be shared here.FFXIV and Flight Rising, also get other fandoms mixed in. you know what youâre in for, if you stay thatâs on you XD Sorry if you somehow found me here from Twitter. Sometimes I make stuff too.ko-fi.com/KaivaGray
Sometimes it is your fault.. Sometimes you donât listen well enough, youâre selfish, youâre rude and you arenât always right. Sometimes you fucked it up and tbh thatâs okay. It happens, learn from it, apologize and keep it moving. Just because you fucked up doesnât mean youâre a bad person. Donât dwell on it
Itâs not over yet! May 11/12 aurora watch continues
It was a good night for aurora watchers all over Europe on the evening of May 10th/11th, 2024. Here's a great brief timelapse video sequence from Berkshire in the UK (via @Rainmaker1973 over at the Bye Bye Birdie place).
Among numerous other displays, this particular broad, pink "banner" structure was widely observed across the UK and Ireland around midnight local time / 2300 UT. It persisted, twisting and morphing into a variety of new shapes, for something like half an hour. The night's display as a whole was definitely one for the record books.
The early projections at the NOAA site suggest that the power of the incoming geomagnetic storm will be significantly less on Sunday, May 12th. But the night of May 11th still holds possibilities, as for the time being the storm seems to be holding at the relatively high Kp 8 level (on a scale of 0-9).
NOAA space weather forecasters have observed at least seven coronal mass ejections (CMEs) from the sun, with impacts expected to arrive on Earth as early as midday Friday, May 10, and persist through Sunday, May 12, 2024.Â
Here are the early graphic projections for the zone of visibility on the evening of May 11 2024. Please note that (a) these are approximations and estimates, not hard and fast indicators of where the solar wind makes planetfall; and (b) as they did last night, they may well improve over the course of the day as newer and better data reaches the predicting devices and personnel.
The European animated projection comes via ITV (UK) weatherman Chris Page.
North American prediction images come via the Space Weather Prediction Center at the NOAA website. Right now (1 PM IDT / 1200 UT on May 11th) the NOAA's evening prediction animation for Europe and North America hasn't been generated yet. This still image shows where the auroral viewing zone stands right now; I'll replace it when the pertinent animation drops.
As a general note: the opinions being shared at the professional observational sites so far today (before 1300 IDT / 1200 UT) seem to indicate that tonight's display may well be significant enough, but nowhere near as outrageous as last night's. We'll see... as last night's displays outpaced everybody's expectations. I for one am quite willing to be surprised. đ
It's also worth noting here that as of earlier this morning, the Kp index illustrated at the Space Weather Prediction Center's experimental aurora dashboard pageâan indicator of the current strength of the geomagnetic stormâhasn't dropped off very much from last night's highs. It'll be interesting to see how this behaves as the day goes on.
...Anyway, I'll be updating this post later, if and when conditions change.

Star Trekâall of itâhas been awarded a Peabody Institutional Award.
Any cultural critic or media scholar would tell you that Star Trek, as an enterprise (pun mildly intended), helped invent a model for fandom through its faithful following originating in the '60s. The original sci-fi television series broke new ground for its diverse cast and unapologetically progressive values, like exploration over colonialism and cooperation over violence. For its enduring dedication to storytelling that projects the best of humanity into the distant future, the Star Trek franchise is honored with the Peabody Institutional Award.
IF YOU STRUGGLE WITH HYGIENE OR VALUE DISABLED/HOMELESS PEOPLE, REBLOG THIS AS MUCH AS YOU CAN.
Okay so
Dry shampoo. You can get body powder or dry shampoo from dollar stores. It'll absorb the grease, and prevent moistness from causing infection. It comes in a powder, which you can vigorously fluff through your hair, making it look and feel clean. This is a valid form of hygiene. You do not need water to be hygenic and have human grooming behaviors.
You can brush your teeth with soap. Or salt. Or baking soda. Or hydrogen peroxide. Or with JUST WATER. But you NEED. TO BRUSH. YOUR TEETH. especially if you're poor and you can't afford a dentist. Tooth infections kill people.
Buy deodorant. The spray kind smells good, but it doesn't help with comfort. Carrying stick antiperspirant (not JUST de-odor ant, ANTI PERSPIRANT which means anti-sweat) and applying it every time you start to feel uncomfortably sweaty or like other people will judge you for how you smell, it will help. It will quickly become a habit if you pay attention to your body becoming uncomfortable because of sweat or smell.
Every once and awhile, when you notice a buildup of any sort of gunk, take a washcloth and vigorously scrub the area in question.
You do not need to shower every single day. That can quickly add up to lost energy and lost money. But you DO need to make sure that you're psychically comfortable and you smell nice, because it's been proven that humans need any sort of self grooming behavior to keep themselves happy and healthy.
And anyone who looks at this: do NOT make fun of how people smell. Do NOT make fun of people for not showering every day. Some people are literally incapable, physically or mentally.
If I ever do actually buy myself a slide film scanner and donate it to the local library after Iâm done with it (because they donât have one yet, I checked and also side note that the guy at the counter didnât even know slides were a thing so thanks for making me feel old, library guy lol) I am absolutely printing this out to include.
hey reminder to continue boycotting eurovision and instead turn your eyes on gaza where the last media outlet al jazeera has just been shut down so that Israel can launch its attack on the most densely populated area in the world without scrutiny. Dont stop talking about Palestine
I think itâs incredibly fucked how capitalism discourages learning for learningâs sake. People will have interests theyâve spent years researching then say itâs âuseless knowledgeâ bc it didnât go towards a college degree and isnât part of their job. Learning is never useless! Your brain is growing and developing throughout your whole life! People would never have epiphanies or sudden lightening strikes of creativity if they werenât learning new things! That goes double for topics like science, politics, and history, which inform your understanding of the world you live in!
