I have a lot of great memories from when the Yuri on Ice creators came to Animefest back in 2017, but one of my favorites is at the beginning of the “Meet the Creators” panel, when the moderator was preparing to begin their questions, and Sayo interrupted to say that she had something she wanted to share first. And then she pulled out a PowerPoint presentation of all her favorite male figure skaters. Truly iconic, and it showed what a passion project the series was for her. I can’t imagine how frustrating the last several years have been for her.
