“Your tumblr speaks volumes about who you are as a person. It shows what kind of images you see in your head, who you love, who you hate, even what you think about other people. But most of all - it has all of the words you never said to people, all of the words you couldn’t have said but should have said.”

💛 Sending love and encouragement to all the black girls on their natural hair journey. Don’t let anyone ever tell you that you can’t grow long healthy hair because you are black, because of the shade of your skin, because of the texture of your hair, or because of your genealogy. —————————————————-Please know that people told me that I couldn’t grow my hair long because of my skin color, hair texture, and because I am 100% African (100% Yoruba to be exact 👸🏾). I never believed them because my mother taught me the truth. But it still hurt and it was very discouraging to hear people say those things to me. It got to the point where I stopped talking to people about my hair goals because they would look at me like I was crazy and say something like “well you’re African. You can’t do that” Those same people look at me, my skin color, my facial features, and then the length of my hair, and they are so puzzled. Because for some reason they thought that those things made me “inferior” and incapable of growing healthy hair. ————————————————- And to all the women who wear wigs and weaves. Please do not let people shame you into thinking you are unworthy. They don’t know your story. They don’t know if you are protective styling. They don’t know if you are suffering from an illness. They don’t know if you were never taught to care for your real hair, but now your hairline is too damaged to grow healthy hair, they don’t know if you’re trying to blend into a corporate environment, they don’t know your story period. And please believe, no matter how you wear your hair, they will ALWAYS find something to complain about. So do what makes you happy. ——————————————— (Natural Hair Details: My hair was blow dried, and then I pressed ONLY my roots on 370 degrees).

“May your coming year be filled with magic and dreams and good madness. I hope you read some fine books and kiss someone who thinks you’re wonderful, and don’t forget to make some art – write or draw or build or sing or live as only you can. And I hope, somewhere in the next year, you surprise yourself.”
— Neil Gaiman (via quotemadness)

If you’re scrolling through tumblr trying to distract yourself from something you don’t want to think about or you’re looking for a sign that everything will be okay, this is it. So, breathe. Relax into this moment. You’re alive & that’s all that matters.
