There's a reason why Mass Effect 2 is seen as the best game in the franchise. It's a filler episode. Stakes are decently high, people are dying, but the reapers themselves get almost no screentime. You spend most of the game recruiting cool badasses from around the galaxy and helping them with personal issues, and then you have like three discreet missions where you bother with the *actual* plot.
The rest is all cool setpieces, worldbuilding and genre parodies. Help Garrus get revenge. Help Grunt get through puberty. Do a heist with Kasumi. Stop an assassination with Thane. Help Liara take down the Shadow Broker. It's the one where you're the most part of the world.
