What's often interesting to me, is Dream spells it out in the finale and people often still don't get it, so I thought it'd be interesting to see what he was actually referencing here. To see where it all started.

[24:27] Tommy: “That first war, me and Tubbo versus you–how it should have ended–why’d you take it?” Dream: “Tommy, you ambushed me and killed me. You stole all my shit! You tried ambushing me in a little cave–you don’t remember that? I feel like you just–your memory is just–gone.”

So here is the ambush Dream is talking about, where Sapnap and Tommy basically decide to just kill Dream and then kept all of his shit. [Death 1]

He gets killed again when he tries to take back his stuff. [Death 2]

Tommy kills him for fun right after he respawns with nothing. [Death 3]

Then after Dream gets his stuff back (via our boy Punz) and he takes the discs to get Tommy to stop, he gives Tommy back his items. But unsatisfied, Tommy goes after Dream, gets one of his discs back and hides it in the little cave. Dream tries to find it, while Sapnap and Tommy try to stop him. They are unsuccessful until, Tubbo brings them axes and they sneak up and corner Dream in the little cave, ambushing and killing him. Once again, taking all of his shit, (including, yes, the other disc.) [Death 4]

[27:58] Tommy: “Think about that, we could’ve been friends but no because you have to figure out the reason you have to get–”  Dream: “Yeah we could’ve but you–you ruined the chance of that long ago. It was you.” Tommy: “I ruined it?” Dream: “You ruined it!”

And I don’t think it’s unfair for Dream to say that in the finale, because for Dream it’s this stream early on, these moments that started it all. It’s these instances of of Dream getting murdered and robbed and made fun of over and over. Him, trying to not just make peace for everyone, but also reclaim respect and peace for himself. It’s Tommy chasing after Dream when he has nothing to kill him and rub it in his face. It’s Dream, even after all of that, giving back their items. It’s these instances of violence taken too far to the point they clearly pissed Dream off and didn’t care or follow his very simple request of just giving an apology and his belongings back that shape my distaste for Tommy and sympathy for Dream. It’s these moments that I feel like are gone from Tommy’s and our memory that highlight a different story.

dream voice note summary for anyone that can’t listen:

- he saw the reddit post (the posts about him sharing teasers and then not following through with the timeframes he gives)

- he’s spent the last year working on the new project and hasn’t left the house in Months 😭

- he wants to start uploading when he can upload a lot (he wants to aim to upload once a week, or twice a month, i don’t think he’s decided)

- the content doesn’t just include youtube videos, he’d like to make shorts too

- he said he’s a perfectionist so he can never get everything right but they keep finding faults with the project and they got as far as filming the first video with the new codes etc and then they found a bug in it and that’s delayed the project further

- he says he looks like an idiot for getting excited about teasing the project and then they hit a roadblock with issues that delays it

- Really Important it kinda sounded like he farted but he put the blame on his chair :/

- making content is his favorite thing in the entire world and he loves seeing our reaction to the things he puts out

- he really appreciates us and he’s sorry for over promising on deadlines. he sucks with time frames for things and said he feels like nobody can share his excitement with him apart from us.

DREAM: i know there are a lot of people who might just think "oh you can just post anything, we don't care" and it's like yeah but I Love This, okay? i LOVE this- and i don't mean this, i mean making content, i love it. i love it. it is my favorite thing in the world to sit down, come up with an idea, do everything in my power to execute it, and then put it out there and see people's reactions. or just see people and how it affects them, how it changes their day, or just makes them smile, or whatever. or just creating, just like, making things

DREAM: um, so there's the day like, a lot of stuff people [say is] "oh you can just go play minecraft", no i don't wanna do that, okay? i've never done that, i've never done that. even with manhunt, which just seems so simple, "you're just sat down and playing minecraft and have your friends try to stop you" yeah but every video i was looking into editing techniques and new ways of using music, and new ways of making music and- um- new evolutions in minecraft and new bugs and glitches and how to y'know, practice. i was evolving as a player, so there was a lot of things i was spending my time on that was part of a creative process, and i feel like i maxxed out in a lot of those things. that's not- that exact thing is not- it's not fun for me

DREAM: so what is fun for me is creating new things, and evolving the space and um- anyway

the original plan for the DSMP end was the reveal that dreamXD was the god of the universe that everybody existed in, and there was gonna be a massive attack on dreamXD where ppl would go to the end and try to kill him... but he would reset the cycle before they could kill him..... bad's personal idea was that the DSMP's cast were all people pulled in from different timelines and universes by dreamXD to be playthings for him to mess with... the egg was a creation not of dreamXD but just an aspect of the timeline. and everytime the timeline gets reset, the egg itself doesn't get reset but it loses its power and gets buried again..... I'm gonna lose my mind. I'm gonna lose my fucking mind

i get really evil and miserable when i think too much about how much rampant homophobia and invalidation dream faced for coming out. but then i remember in the long run he has and continues to set an extremely positive example for not just people in general but especially for an audience of young boys who are viewing boys having a crush on each other or being affectionate and openly emotional with each other as something normal. and i remember that he set such a prominent example in the creator space to show that you do not have to be sure of your sexuality or label other than knowing you’re queer in some way and you are still valid.
