If Nikhil wasn’t a huge people person and couldn’t tell when someone was joking or being sarcastic, he’d have been flummoxed at Hyun Woo’s comment but luckily he could tell that the other had an interesting sense of humor during the first couple of times they’d met in the past so Nik was prepared for this. “I mean—the first part maybe, the second part…not so much,” he grinned before nodding at the other’s words before shrugging when the question was passed along to him. “I didn’t do much yesterday, visited the astronomy thing at night but it was not so much of a ‘party’ the way they called it in the brochure adverting it. But it was still entertaining enough. This seems like a riot though,” he told the other before glancing around. “Are you meeting up with anyone? Or here on your own?”
Tumblr media
There were two ways Hyun Woo might have reacted to seeing someone from his past. On the one hand, if they knew his family, his guards would have been up immediately. After all, his presence in Wilmington must remain a secret. Especially when they neither knew of Hanbin’s existence and Hanbin didn’t know his existence. It would be a mess if they found out before then. Nikhil, while he met for the purposes of work, Hyun Woo met him independently of his family. There was no way things could get back to South Korea, so he actually was grateful for the familiar face. At least one that might not have reacted negatively to seeing him in this town. Having arrived a bit earlier than his son and ex-wife, Hyun Woo returned the sentiments. “Don’t I present as someone who loves animals? Who might have been a farmer in a past life?” Answer, he did not. Head to toe, he looked like he was born with a silver spoon. “I did, I’ve been enjoying it. It’s been a while since I’ve gone out to a celebration like this. Didn’t have much reason or opportunity before, but it’s a nice welcome to the town. You?” / @nikhilxkohli

“I still didn’t think you spent all your time on this beach. I thought you were on the tennis courts day in and day out,” he chuckled with a grin as he continued to try and make a good attempt for a castle. The truth was, he didn’t really care if he lost something like this because it was frivolous fun and if it meant that much to Amos, he’d happily let the other win. Especially since this wasn’t something he actually had much skill at. The beaches he’d been to India weren’t exactly the same as beaches on this part of the world. “I mean I’ve seen a couple of your matches, I just didn’t think this was a ‘sport’. Tell me do you think they’ll include it in the summer olympics this year?” He was absolutely teasing the other man now, but it came easily as one of his favorite things about Amos was finding someone who understood a lot of the life that Nik himself lived and he appreciated the friendship they’d formed.
Tumblr media
"Well yeah, you knew I was a local when you accepted the challenge, Nik. Don't play chicken now." Amos retorted, smirking as he continued to pile out mud and dry sand together to make the misture that he would use to start building his castle up. "All competition is a big deal to me, of course. Winning is my favorite thing about the sport, you'd know this is you've watched any of my tennis matches." Amos explained very easily. At times, his behavior had been considered childish when he was at the highest of his career, beating himself up over losing one friendly game here, throwing his racquet to the ground when he lost an important final match and breaking it. Amos was passionate in everything he did, of course, this competition was just for his and Nikhil's amusement and not Amos' ego.

It was good of her to actually stick around and listen to him. Mainly because he didn't like the idea of someone out there despising him based on something that wasn't entirely true. Sure, it was a little true since he was legally married, but what he and his wife shared--was nothing more than a marriage of pure convenience, all for him to get an expedited green card. Telling Daphne all of that would only result in more people knowing his truth and potentially letting it leak. So he had to be careful with what he said. "Thank you," he said softly before letting out a soft sigh. He'd liked her quite a bit when they'd first met, it had been a nice date until all hell broke loose.
"I am married, and I was on the app because...my wife and I have an agreement of sorts, kind of like an open marriage. Obviously it's not something we advertise to every single person we meet. Especially with my career, it's better to keep it on the down low...I don't always know who I can trust, you know?"
Tumblr media
daphne really didn't want to hear anymore excuses from the man but even so, she found herself curious as to what his supposed explanation was when it came to his marriage and why the hell he was on a dating website. she hesitated for a moment before allowing herself to fully turn in the man's direction, his arms over his chest. "alright," she sighed, eyebrow cocked as she gave him her full attention. "let me hear it then. i'd love to hear why it is you're dating when you're married."

Nikhil had been speaking to a rather special woman at the bar, he'd bought her a drink and she'd actually been interested in finding out more about the sport he worshipped. He'd been close to getting to know her a little better and was about to tell her about his situation when he got tapped on the shoulder. If this was some fan who wanted a picture or an autograph, he was not going to be pleased.
But no, it was Jordan. And clearly she was in a fighting mood. He was tempted to laugh though the way she told the other woman to leave. "Anita, please--don't listen to her. I'll give you a call and I promise I can explain," but before the other woman could agree--Jordan called him a married man and Anita was not in the mood to stick around.
Tumblr media
"God--I wish I never met you," he murmured before giving her another charming smile before attempting to greet her with a hug. "You know she probably thinks we're married now, right? Also how many times do I have to explain that--it's not exactly...like that." It was so complicated to try and explain his situation to anyone, mainly because he wanted to be truthful but it was so hard for him to know who to trust explicitly because if too many people found out, his green card would be in jeopardy.
Bars weren't really Jordan's thing, not after she gotten clean, but her co-workers wanted to hang out so she agreed, got herself a coke, laugh and relaxed the usually. As she was leaving though, Jordan noticed something, Nikhi all--cozy with someone, the nerve on that man! Jordan walked over there, tapping on his shoulder, "Excuse me! just what do you think you're doing?!" she turned to the other person, "Hi. This is not your fault, but beat it. He's taken."
Tumblr media
"Why is it so hard for married man to keep it in their pants?!" he huffs at him. @nikhilxkohli

"As long as it's proof, that's the main thing." He told her with a smile before nodding as she spoke about not having a sno-cone in a long time. He'd been the same way mainly because back in India where he actually enjoyed them, he'd never be able to go out in public without being swarmed but here--he'd be able to enjoy it completely without a worry. "Let's go," he gestured for her to lead the way before smiling at her and putting his hand out, "nice to meet you Theresa, I'm Nik."
Tumblr media
"Mm, certain type of proof." Theresa chuckled once again following his gaze. "Ooh, it has been a while since I've had one of those then. Come on, my treat... I'm Theresa by the way."

Nik was glad to get the information from the man next to him who clearly was a native with the knowledge he possessed about the situation. He’d heard about something like this when he’d first moved to Wilmington years ago but back then people didn’t really discuss it much around him and so he’d forgotten about it. But clearly a murder was a big deal especially when no culprit was found for it. “Wow—thats a big deal,” he said with a soft laugh, “almost gives the town a primetime television vibe, doesn’t it?” Nik nodded at the other’s words, processing the information before frowning as he glanced around. “That’s definitely strange though, when it’s something from over thirty years ago…and all these people have something to do with it, why not just bring them in for questioning instead of broadcasting it like this?”
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Linc was simply minding his own business. The event was in full swing, and he found watching people enjoy themselves to be rather calming to himself. That was, of course, until the announcement broke out. Everything stopped, the excitement had ceased, and dread seemed to fill the air. As the announcer began calling out names, it only seemed to make the air even more tense. As the announcement came to an end, and some people continued on with their activities, while others looked like pure terror; a male's voice grabbed his attention. Turning, he pressed his lips together in a tight lipped smile, "30 years ago, the mayor serving at that time was murdered." Lincoln stated, "His death has been a mystery ever since." Shoving his hands into his pockets, he sighed, "It was a headline case, followed by some gossip site causing even trouble following it." He looked over his shoulder, before back at the newcomer, "No one knows who did it. Or -- so, we thought. Because this person seems to know more then anyone."

“That’s true, it’s my good deed,” he grinned at the other before raising a brow at the man’s confession. That was definitely a reason to beat the other up and maybe Nik really would be his alibi if necessary. Nik may not have siblings himself to defend in the same manner but he was certainly like that about people he called friends, he'd go to the end of the earth for them and not regret a single thing. “Well people are fucked up if they’re testing their luck by messing with your family,” he told the other man before nodding at his words and chuckling at the thought of this man running from the cops. “So—if you’re in the mood to do this whole beating up shenanigan, I can still be your alibi, but it’s your choice entirely.”
Tumblr media Tumblr media
"Well, it would only be criminal not to share said gift with the world." Ryat commented, "One would only be so lucky." Although, if movies and TV shows have told him anything, it's that that would truly be a shitty gift to have. But each their own. Ryat shrugged, "I'd say he deserved it. He fucked with my little sister, he's lucky I don't put him in a body bag." Despite how serious his words were, Ryat spoke them with little to no emotion. "We tend to have a motto in the family, and it's usually wise to not fuck with the family. But since people like to test their luck." A devious smirk crossed his features, "Eh -- it wouldn't be the first time the cops have had the honor of coming after me. It usually ends in a pretty good work out. Keeps my stigma strong."

If Nikhil was purchasing a place back in Mumbai, he had no doubt that with his budget, the home would include a screening room, a library, maybe even a personal gym and he’d go ahead get it as well. Mainly because there it would be a status symbol, a home to invite his fellow teammates to and boast about the lifestyle he was leading, but the home he wanted to buy here in Wilmington was meant to just be a sanctuary type of place, one that allowed both him and his wife to live their separate lives as comfortably as possible. “I mean we can look past it, we can always turn it into something else later on too,” he mused before nodding at Yasemin when she mentioned the two primary bedrooms. “That’s great, we’re looking for the two primary bedrooms for that very reason. My parents or her parents whenever they’re planning on visiting, we’d like for them to have their own space and be comfortable,” he told the real estate agent before gesturing for her to lead the way up the stairs. “What’s the square footage on the house? And any homeowners fee’s since we’re in a community setting?”
Tumblr media
Finding places for people to live had been her mission in the last few years. Young couples, Yasemin had discovered, were her favorite to help, in a way, because it made her think of herself and Irza when they were looking for a place to live, to call their own... maybe, because of that, she liked it so much. Because it was a way of hurting herself. "I'll admit, the screening room is a bit much." The brunette chuckled, turning around on her heels to face the young couple. While she had never been a fan of sports, she'd done her research on the cricket player to try and figure out a good spot for him and his gracious wife. "But, I thought it would be an excess you might be willing to look past, because the house does have two primary bedrooms." It was an odd request, but Yas tried not to judge them as she waved the couple to follow her up the stairs, smiling as well, as she noticed the young woman smile excitedly at her husband. "The previous owners lived with their parents, so there are two master suites, with, dare I say, wonderful bathrooms." / @nikhilxkohli

A grin was on Nik's face as he heard Amos' words. It was true that Nikhil wasn't a great tennis player but he was definitely better at his sport than Amos was at cricket...even if he'd told him repeatedly that it was pretty similar to baseball. As Nik got started on his little sandcastle, he heard the other's words and rolled his eyes. "Well that's not cool--you have the home advantage, I hate those things." He grumbled with a laugh before shaking his head and letting out a soft sigh. "Alright cricket's not going to help me here, but neither is tennis going to help you..so in that sense, we're both in the same boat." But as he continued packing his sand into the bucket, he glanced back at Amos and grinned. "So is this going to be your dream house? Tell me the truth Amos--this competition is a big deal to you, isn't it?"
"Bud, I'm sorry but I have news for you." Amos teased, a wide smirk on his lips. Truthfully, Nik wasn't a bad tennis player, but Amos knew better than to make the other man's head bigger. He already had that covered himself. "Oh you grew up near the beach? I'll have you know I grew up at this beach. I know this sand, it's a part of my backyard. It's on, like Donkey Kong." Amos told him as he began working on collecting his sand as well, clearly taking the competition as seriously as he would any sporting event. "Let's see how cricket helps you with this." He teased, shaking his head at himself.

“Rude,” he muttered before taking another sip from the coffee in front of him. He quite enjoyed his friendship with Peyton, having someone to talk cricket with was rare but enjoyable whenever he found it on this side of the world. “The English media is never a concern of mine, you know that. Dealing with the Indian ‘so-called’ journalism is bad enough. You should’ve seen the clips of mine they’re using as clickbait all over Twitter right now, I said something about one of the old Sri Lankan bowlers and they’re acting like I said he was satan or something,” he murmured before nodding at her words. He knew that was one of the main reasons but as someone who grew up in the 90’s, that mentality was driving him insane. It honestly annoyed him how short people’s attention spans were becoming. Even the way people would choose to watch just the highlights of a T20 match over watching the entire match. “Yeah I know, it’s…honestly one of those things where I do believe we’re heading that way but the purists will put up a fight to keep it. I know I will.” He loved Test cricket, but then again—he loved all formats of the game. “What’s your favorite format to watch though? Because I know it can be different to watch one in person versus watching it on television whenever you can.”
The reaction was expected. Peyton would be lying if she didn't say that the comment was made in part to see Nikhil's response. Always worth it. "I know, I like seeing you get worked up about it," she admitted with a laugh. "Well, good luck telling the English media that who insist their team is the greatest gift on Earth." Which would be fine, if not for this opinion to be plastered all over her social media in 2022 and every year since. "Honestly, I don't know whether the belief that certain concepts are interchangeable is because governing agencies are trying to appeal to younger audiences?" Something about the short attention spans, the need to keep things within a particular timeframe, more "modern". "That's what my father thinks, anyway, that maybe people are losing interest in the longer format and they need to keep it interesting." A pause, reflecting on what this meant for the game, for him. "Do you think Test cricket will die one day?"

“The odds, as you say…are very slim, but this town has some people that managed to pull me here so what can I say, it felt like the right move.” Nikhil hadn’t expected to meet Axel ever again in life but life truly had a way of surprising you and so Nik took that in stride. “You really should go around the entire place first, find all the good spots and then hit the one with the shortest line. You’re starting at the longest line my friend,” he grinned at the other man before nodding at his agreement for the Korean food truck. “So—do you live here as well then? You’re in—real estate? Or was I imagining that? I just vaguely remember us talking about that and the astronomical prices in New York City when we first met.”
Tumblr media
He remembered that day, how excited Shivi had been to attend the cricket match. But another thing he recalled was the man standing before him now, who had tried to get a little too friendly with his best friend. Thankfully, she hadn't seemed interested, or at least she had made it appear that way. "Did you, really? What are the odds that you'd end up moving to Wilmington?" No way was this guy living here too. Out of all the places in America, why did it have to be Wilmington? Still, he maintained a pleasant demeanor, not wanting to let his true feelings show. "That's quite a stint," he remarked, moving along with the line. "I haven't had the chance to try anything else yet. This is my first stop. But if the Korean truck is as good as you say, I might have to check it out next."

"If it's any consolation, I don't think you were out of your mind or anything Mahi. I think you were just so...starstruck at seeing me there," he told her with a casual wink, amused at how she still could not let it go that he'd beaten her very well during their first go around a poker table. "That's great, it's nice to have a place to call home, isn't it?" He definitely felt that way about his home in India but he was finding that this place was slowly becoming special to him as well, it helped to have a good foundation of friends around him as well. "Soundwave huh? It sounds like a fun place and I will absolutely be there, even if--the ring might provide a hinderance to that idea of being a thirst trap." He held up his left hand and flashed the ring in her direction.
Tumblr media
Nik listened as she told him about her large family and didn't miss the look in her eyes as she spoke about them, clearly they were all very close. "A small army huh? That's pretty impressive, I take it they will all be there on opening night as well?" He asked with a smile before discarding one of his cards to draw another as she asked him about his life. "I will always enjoy the nomadic lifestyle but my roots have been in India for so long, I figured it's time to set some down here in America as well...the best of both worlds right?"
"Shush, you still won that one time. I must have been out of my mind because I never lose." Mahi rolled her eyes. It still annoyed her that he did. Yeah, she should be a better sport, but nope, he needed to know how irritating she found it that he beat her. "Yeah, I think I'm ready to stick around for good now.” Leaning in, her eyes brightened, “You better be there when Soundwave opens. I’m going to need all my hot friends to be around as thirst traps.” What? Just because she never had romantic feelings for the man, it didn’t mean she didn’t find him attractive. She wasn’t blind… At the mention of her family, her eyes softened. "I do have a pretty big family. Two dads, a sister, a foster brother and a cousin. It’s like I have a small army in this town." She smiled, thinking about the people she loved most. "What about you? Is this where you’re settling down, or are you still enjoying the nomadic lifestyle?"

“I’m definitely not used to them at all, so I appreciate all the help,” he grinned before nodding at the other’s words about agreeing at what kind of party this could be classified as. “It’s a good place to see the community though, so I appreciate the interest that everyone has in the whole…stars and galaxy thing.” Nikhil had no idea how else to describe it and prayed it didn’t sound too awkward.
“It just confused me mainly, I’m good with parties of all kinds, but yeah calling this a party just seems wrong.” He glanced around at the people around and noticed the way they were all staring up at the sky and found it quite entertaining to see how involved people could get. “It’s nice to meet you Irza, otherwise I’d just keep calling you Mr. Mayor or something,” he chuckled softly before taking his hand and shaking it as well. “I’m Nikhil Kohli, and it’s very nice to meet you as well.” Nikhil retracted his hand then and looked at the other man, "but you have to tell me--is there a reason you get to roam around without bodyguards? Where I originally come from, most politicians are always surrounded by heavy security."
Tumblr media
"No problem at all. Telescopes can be tricky if you're not used to them," Irza said, stepping back from the device. He chuckled softly at the man's comment about the party. "Yeah, I guess party might be a bit of a stretch. It's more of a gathering for stargazing enthusiasts, which can be an acquired taste." He wasn’t even sure he would be out here if he wasn’t the mayor. Oddly enough, he didn’t mind it at all.
"I take it you're more into the lively, upbeat kind of parties then?" he asked, raising a brow. At 36, he couldn’t do that anymore—going club hopping. Now, the bar on the other hand…he found himself at TRIC more often these days, what with his recent run-in with his ex wife. Like it wasn’t enough she’d hurt him, she had to move to the same city he lived in. “I’m Irza by the way. It’s nice to meet you,” he introduced himself, extending his right hand.

Nikhil wasn't into seeing the stars, but he enjoyed various activities of nightlife and that's what brought him out to this viewing party. It didn't feel like much of a party though. He adjusted his telescope for the fourth time, having borrowed it from the person next to him who had a spare. But he was failing. And apparently making a big show of it too. Hearing the helpful words, he moved away from the telescope to let his neighbor try.
Seeing the mayor out and about was turning into something Nikhil was getting used to now. It was just strange because back in India, politicians were firstly not exactly people he wanted to interact with much but they were always surrounded by so much security but here was this guy--just roaming around and behaving like a normal citizen. It was refreshing honestly.
"Thanks," he grinned at the other before giving him a smile and shrugging, "I wasn't that bothered about it if I'm being honest. I came out here tonight hearing the word party, but it seems more like a quiet type of party which really isn't my scene."

OPEN STARTER
Location: Starlight Viewing Party (0/4)
After setting up his telescope, Irza looked around and watched the person next to him struggle with their telescope. At first, he let them be, but after witnessing them fiddling with the knobs and dials for the past five minutes—growing more and more frustrated by the second—he decided to help out. "Here, let me take a look." After leveling the telescope, he peered through the eyepiece and made a few adjustments before stepping back. "There we go. You should be able to see the stars now."

"Ouch, look at you underestimating your competition," he grinned back at her, not missing the cute little dimples in her smile. She gave off the look of a little bunny to him and despite them being the same age it made him feel weirdly protective over her. It made no sense and it wasn't something Nikhil was ever going to tell her but it was there. "It was luck and skill, so yeah it'll happen again." He grinned before nodding at her agreement. That was mainly why he'd chosen Wilmington as well. He could've lived in New York or Los Angeles, it was really not a problem to live anywhere but a smaller place like this meant he could go out and get his own groceries and not worry about being spotted and photographed at every waking moment. He listened as she told him this was home for her and that she'd been travelling around for the last five years. He'd met her during those travels so he wondered if Las Vegas was her only stop or if she went around the States. "Putting down roots is important for sure...do you think you'll end up sticking around here for a bit then? You have a large family too right? I feel like we'd spoken about it last time we met.."
Tumblr media
“Not my fault you guys make it too easy sometimes," Mahi retorted, her dimples deepening as she flashed him a sweet smile. That smile was what made it easy for her to sucker people—mainly men out of their money. It annoyed her of course that this one beat her. "Bring it. Let's see if you can get lucky twice." She studied her cards, contemplating her next move. "I get that. It must be nice to have a break from the constant attention and just blend in for a while." She couldn’t do it. Being known and having people hound you all the time. It would drive her crazy. "As a Wilmington native, I can’t say anything against your logic. This is home,” even if she spent the past 5 years running. “It’s home and I’ve been traveling around for the past five years. I just feel like it’s time to come home and put down roots.” What she never told a soul was the trauma she went through. Only one person knew, and she was thankful she would never have to see him again.
