Blog 13
This week was spent doing finishing touches on my photos. I really like the way they turned out. Initially hearing about this assignment I was nervous because I don’t like theme that allow for abstraction. I think I was able to comprise my likes and approach which is mich more simplistic with this theme.

Blog 12 (Assignment 4 Proposal)
For Assignment 4 my theme is at frame within a frame. I will be using my surroundings to create a frame to take images. With the project I’ll be using objects such as arches or windows. Using this theme and a direct way of leading one’s eyes into a photo. This can add depth and context, as well as drawing their attention to a defined point. My plan is to go some using squares and a windows and then transition outdoors by finding unique and creative frames that aren’t as simple as squares. For example using a gate or trees.
My other idea was a theme of ‘Reds’. These shots I think would be more powerful during the night. My goal is to go through a neighborhood in philly (not center city) and see and objects with the color read and let that direct my travel is a new surroundings. With this, it’s just trying to find a neighborhood that I could go alone with a friend.

This week I spent most of my time taking pictures in the studio. I think i’m still having trouble because I like simpler photos but I feel like there’s nothing really happening in my shots

This week our new assignment was introduced, the constructed image. I foresee this assignment being challenging for me because our images should be ambiguous and aesthetically pleasing. I have trouble reading images and interpreting the message behind them.
With shooting on Monday’s class. I learned that it take a lot of going back and forth with the display to find something that’ll work. So hopefully in class tomorrow I get the chance to find my niche.
For inspiration I looked at the work of Barbara Kasten and Erin OKeef.

Blog 3 (Catch up)
This week I focused on editing using minute details. A lot of my edits focused on brightening the images and bringing certain degrees of color to the image.
With texture I would darken the crevices and lighten the part above the crevices. With lines I focused on darkened the areas with a blurry depth of field and concentrating in the clearer areas.

Blog 7 (Catch Up)
This week I didn’t shoot any pictures but focused on editing some of the photographs I have captured using both lightroom and photoshop. I loved being able to remove minute blemishes and lamppost or unnecessary items in the background that was captured within the images.
Removing things were quite difficult and was something i struggled with. Removing things were often tedious and in doing so you had to be meticulous or some unwanted parts would be added.

Blog 4(Catch Up)
This week we got our next photography assignment. I really like the idea of taking pictures and expressing stories using people’s facial expressions, body language, and backgrounds. I just didn’t like the idea of taking portraits of strangers and approaching them.
However for this week, for inspiration I looked over the work of Steve McCurry, Jimmy Nelsson, and Lee Jeffries. Their work is absolutely magnificent. Within their work they’re able to capture the the stories, soul, emotions, and hope of their models. Which is something I would like to attempt to capture in my models

This week I went to Center City again in an attempt to find strangers to take portraits of them. As I was walking around I found these two girls in matching outfits taking pictures of each other and I decided to in seize this opportunity.
I explained my assignment to them and asked if I could take portraits of them. And the fortunately said yes. They were so nice that gave me an hour of their time. As we move from different locations or as I scopes the surroundings trying to find a good background they were amazing sports. Attached is a picture me and the 2 girls

This week I attempted to model after some of Federico Sciuca’s portraits. My friend Abigail and I went to a park and I took several pictures. I enjoyed this because although I still had trouble with the lighting, I was finally understanding better techniques when taking portraits. Attached below is some of Federico’s work.

This week was unsuccessful i’m regards to taking portraits. I went to Center City to find my stranger but everyone looked busy and I was a little scared to stop someone on their way to their destination.
Although I was unsuccessful finding I stranger, I looked to the work of Federico Sciuca, an italian photographer. In his portraits the models have soft expressions and strong, calming eyes. I want to model this is some of my pictures.

Last week I forgot to write my blog however that weekend I went home and took pictures of my cousin. I also went to a local flea market to try and get pictures of consumers.
Overall the task was hard because the lighting was bad. I would change the ISO, aperture, and shutter speed but the pictures still didn’t look great.
The camera wasn’t capturing the images I had in mind.
My inspiration has been taking pictures of people posing and doing normal things. But at the flea market it was so packed and busy. People didn’t have time to wait and be photographed.

This week, I went to Center City (15 & Market) to shoot. This week I focued more on Rules of third and Texture since I didn’t have many good shots conveying the theme. Overall, it went better than last week. I had a little trouble trying to go on lightroom with my computer so I wasn’t able to add more pictures to Assignment 1

This week our compositional guidelines were formal, rule of thirds, lines, and texture. My favorite and successful are was formal. I found lots or houses that were symmetrical. I also found doors and roads that were under the formal guidelines. I also really liked liked lines and found gates in which I made the central component of the pictures. I found texture a little challenging because I wasn’t able to find lots of inspiration in regards to texture. Lastly the hardest guideline for me was rule of thirds. I couldn’t find many things in thirds. Overall, I used the two weeks to get familiar with the camera, while test different aperture and shutterspeed.
