Teenage Mutant Hero Turtles issue 43. 7th-20th September 1991. Reprint of Archie issue 24, September 1991.
Both stories plotted by Ryan Brown & Dean Clarrain, while written by Clarrain.
Main story "Gimme Danger" illustrated by Garret Ho & Jim Lawson.
Backup story "It Started In Chinatown" illustrated by Chris Allan.
The April O'Neil led bonus story would actually have a big impact going forward, distinguishing April's comic book character from the damsel in distress cartoon character she'd initially been based upon, who now several seasons into the TV show had shown no character growth.
But while this 4 part bonus story would directly set up the next multi-issue Turtles story arc, the downside is, it would eat into the pages of what would have been a more epic "Slash Trilogy."
While the publishers would print extra pages in the next 3 issues, to accommodate the backup story (particularly during the standalone main stories), part 2 of the Slash Trilogy runs at just 20 pages. That doesn't mean to say a lot doesn't happen, because it's quite eventful, its just the concluding two parts, let down the potential that was the teased in the previous issue.
For some reason Garret Ho illustrates the first 10 pages, with Jim Lawson then taking over. Garret's art has much improved & he has a skill to blend his work with distinctive artists while sharing drawing duties, he doesn't quite do it here, as this isn't the same Jim Lawson who debuted the vivid Stump Wrestling, but a Lawson who seemed uninspired, with often bland & childlike skills with the pencil. The final page redeems him, with the most shocking image in the series so far, as it seemingly looks like Krang has had Shredders head chopped off, so he can replace it with his own brain body. Readers quickly forget from Lawsons cliffhanger visual, the previous dialogue where Krang stated, he wouldn't need any surgical tools for the procedure, because it certainly looks like the Archie Shredder has suffered a similar fate to his Mirage equivalent.
