(tw for heavy discussion about periods and the covid vaccine)
I saw a post going around that said people noticed after the vaccine, their periods were more painful than normal. I didn't think much of it. My periods are pretty mild compared to most, so the worst I have to put up with is never knowing when the heck its going to show up because my uterus can't count.
Well, I recently got my period, and when I say it's been awful, don't take it lightly.
I started to notice something was up three days before my period started. I was crying over video clips that really shouldn't have made me cry. I've seen them before and felt something strongly, but not tear inducing. And I mean, I cried full on. Crying easily isn't usually one of my symptoms. I've also been extremely lonely, which is very new to my introverted social bar.
Still, I brushed it off.
One of my normal symptoms, however, is insomnia. I usually notice a day or two before I start my period that I have trouble sleeping. It's usually only one night, and the restlessness doesn't bother me. I have not gotten a good night's sleep in three days. I've slept, but it's only been a few hours at a whack, and never feels restful.
Here's where I started getting concerned, but I could ignore it.
Then my period hit.
I have never really experienced what people refer to as cramps. I've felt mild discomfort, like I used my gut muscles a little too hard, but it's never bothered me. I could ignore it. This. This is a solid 8 on the pain scale. It's started in my gut and has gone all the way into my back. I can't get comfortable. If this is what normal people refer to as cramps, I consider myself highly lucky to never had them bother me before. I've also bled a lot more than usual.
Maybe it's coincidence. Maybe it's not. However, now is when I start to remember I've seen posts saying their periods were worse.
I don't want to scare people out of getting the vaccine. There's little to no research on side effects because it's so early. This may just be coincidence. However, I want you to know this might be a thing you need to prepare for, just like you need to prepare for the second shot taking a heavy toll on your body.
Be careful out there. Take care of yourself. And make sure you carry a few extra tampons or pads with you just in case.

The police just killed a 15 year old girl. How many children have they killed in the past 2 weeks?

nonblack people hush. this is not your “history being made”. this is not your victory. i know children who attend MY school who were brutalized by police YESTERDAY and thus the battle continues. black people are still being oppressed and affected by generations of trauma, so seeing you rejoice in a sliver of accountability from a system that functions to fuel mass incarceration of our people offers no joy, solace or solidarity. continue to amplify OUR voices and OUR activism keeping our people alive, safe and thriving rather than trying to claim progress over our corpses

im fucking trembling in anger right now
Ma'Khia Bryant, a 15 year old Black girl, was fucking murdered by a cop in Columbus, Ohio, after calling the police for help because she was being jumped by another group of teenage girls, she had a knife on her that she had for self-defense and the fucker rolled up and shot her 4 times, apparently without telling her to drop the knife according to bystanders, and this happened roughly 20 minutes before Chauvin's verdict in court for the murder of George Floyd

this is not justice.
this is accountability.
it's good that it happened. it's a start. it's a relief, and a weight off the shoulders of many, and proof that police officers who murder can be held accountable for their actions, and that they cannot act with impunity.
it can't be where it stops.

Let's remember that it was due to protest and unrest that we got a special prosecutor to bring a case against Chauvin after the DA said there was none because George died of "natural causes".
Let's not forget it was because of protests and unrest that the second degree murder charge was added.
Never be convinced by those who want silence and complicity that outrage will get you nowhere. Keep making noise. Keep making them uncomfortable. Keep fighting.

Reminder that this likely wouldn’t have been the verdict without that video.
Reminder that this likely wouldn’t have been the verdict without people voting for the right people.
Reminder that this likely wouldn’t have been the verdict without the protests or BLM
Remember your power

reminder that george floyd wasn't a martyr who sacrificed his life for the betterment of white people
he didn't choose to die. he didn't sacrifice himself. he was murdered in cold blood
white people are already twisting this, thanking him for his sacrifice like he decided to be brutally murdered by a white cop for existing as a black man
like. stop thanking him for being killed just because it made you open your eyes! it was never his responsibilty to make you take a stand against police violence and racial profiling in the first place
you want to make something out of his death? acknowledge that it was senseless and never should have happened in the first place! stop glorifying this murder

I’m glad that Derek Chauvin was found guilty, and I hope it brings even the tiniest bit of peace to George Floyd’s family. But please resist the urge to write those lengthy “racism is over” posts and start patting yourselves on the back and talking about this being a unifying moment. Mr. Floyd isn’t a martyr, and true justice wasn’t served. Chauvin is being held accountable and that is not the same thing as justice.

PSA to my white friends and followers: In the wake of a phenomenally important guilty verdict in the Derek Chauvin Trial, I’d like to remind you all that the fallout of this case will likely mean more police violence against our Black friends and neighbors, not less. Looking at the statistics in the weeks leading up to this verdict shows that this is already the case. Police in this country are angry that society is beginning to hold them accountable for their abusive actions, and they are looking for revenge. So if you see a cop interacting with a BIPOC, DO NOT walk away. Video record if you can (and as long as it doesn’t further jeopardize the safety of the BIPOC involved), but absolutely do not walk away. It is critical that we do our part and look out for people, and make cops think twice about abusing their powers of authority and near-immunity to murder citizens people.
