THE FINAL PART
Kidcore isn’t only about physically releasing your inner 10 year old. Psychologically, kidcore is used as a way to be care free and live life as a child again. As you grow up, you lose touch with the ease of life and it’s important to stay connected with your inner child. As much as kidcore is just a recycling/remix of styles already seen, it brings a whole new lease of life into streetwear and allows us to dip back into simplicity.

KIDCORE TODAY
TrendHunter has labelled kidcore as a reactionary response to the hyper sexualisation of runway fashion in recent years and others have labelled kidcore as the “extreme extension of normcore” - normcore being catagorised as the “rejection of extravagance”. Normcore was also seen as a rejection of runway fashion because it’s creation was somewhat a rebuttal to the heavy aesthetics being featured in high end fashion as well as pop culture with icons like Lady Gaga and Beyonce being among those most notable for rocking over the top silhouettes and prints.

KIDCORE AND THE MEDIA
Kidcore uses many elements of remix art - it borrows from nostalgic aspects of pop culture like “The Simpsons” and Dr Suess books among other forms of media that make us fondly reminisce on the simpler times of childhood. Linked with so-called “Stickercore”, common motifs of kidcore include stickers of childrens icons (such as Bart Simpson, Care Bears and Bratz dolls) and as prior mentioned, brightly saturated colours.

WHAT IS KIDCORE?
Kidcore is defined by juvenile aesthetics with a clear focus on bright and saturated colours along with brands associated with childhood such as Barbie, Monster High, Bratz and Hello Kitty. Kidcore isn’t just limited to visual art, kidcore is a music style, a fashion style and is associated with the architectural styles known as "Wonka PoMo" and “Memphis JR”. Other aesthetics that are popular at the moment such as “Spooky kidcore”, “Stickercore” and “Loudcore” are also derivatives of kidcore.

NOSTALGIA 90 by India-Turkan Akca
THE DEATH OF CULTURE
In contemporary culture, it seems as though everything has been done before and this could be true. Has everything been done? Are we stuck in an everlasting loop of recycling the old? In this photo, my model is wearing a Fleetwood Mac t-shirt along with Kappa trousers - a style seen as trendy nowadays. Kappa was a huge brand during the 90s and early 00s that is having a revival in urban streetwear at the moment. Retro band t-shirts are also a huge statement piece in any trendsetters wardrobe at this current moment. Will our obsession with the past ever end?

NOSTALGIA 90 by India-Turkan Akca
Nostalgia is defined as a sentimental longing or wistful affection for a period in the past and we seem to have an obsession with it. Whether it’s recycled fashions from decades passed or a new take on the old, nostalgia is a key part of early 2020′s fashion and culture. Childlike aesthetics (also known as kidcore) are at the forefront of street fashion with brands like Juicy Couture and Kappa having huge revivals.
