ive watched a bunch of the commentary channel's reactions to the dream thing and it is kinda insane to me how so many of them decided to repeatedly hammer in the idea that he's still cringe and lame and worth relentlessly memeing about. there are better ways to clarify that your opinion isn't informed by whether or not the dude is likeable. and to say that you dislike him and think he's cringe is literally fine on its own, but so few people seemed to acknowledge that the dehumanization he got bc of cringe culture had something to do with his more serious accusations. him being relentlessly bullied for his appearance, sexuality, and audience (or, yes, for being cringe and a bit shitty about some stuff) is not separate from him later being harassed, doxxed, stalked, accused and threatened. the fatphobic, homophobic memes of him weren't "funny until some people went too far," they were evidence that people would continue pushing the ethical boundary as far as possible because they didn't experience any real consequence for being cruel. tl;dr: bullying doesn't suddenly become bad when it results in crimes; its bad the entire time, even if the victim is annoying or whatever

Medusa.

A Medusa who loved Athena and was never truly acknowledged by her, and once she finally realized it was futile, once she finally let go, the one she had loved came for her with a vengeance, as if she were the one being betrayed.

Medusa realizing she had been taken advantage of by Poseidon as someone who had never felt loved by the one she had devoted herself to, and then near immediately being cursed for what was not her mistake, but rather an intentional action of another.

Medusa, cursed by the goddess she had loved for years, knowing it was intended as a curse, but choosing to call it a gift.

A Medusa who is just as messy as the interpretations of the myths we have preserved that hold her in them.

my takeaway from one piece live action is that, oda said that he took this chance because the quality of cgi in current industry could make it feasible to adapt his manga now and yet the actual show has so much practical effects, they build the physical sets, the actors did their own stunts, the camera work mimicked anime’s. yes the cgi and special effects help immensely but the fact that they did all of these on top of cgi work just proves how much the team behind the show care about the IP and are One Piece superfans who are respectfully knowledgeable.
