Finishing the last of the settings, she closed the lid of her machine and had her hand free to shake his hand. He was being awfully understanding, and she was very appreciative. “Nani. Nani Frye. I don’t think I’ve seen you here before.” She’d remember. 

“Nah, I’m a newcomer.” He confirmed, letting his hand fall back down to his side after a firm shake. “My washer at home decided to break, so I had to take my stuff here. All pretty last minute, of course.”

“Oh, I work for him.” He answered, letting his hand drop back to his side. Which was the truth. Not like he was ashamed of his profession - it was, after all, just another way to make money - but if she knew Dallas then he wouldn’t need to provide any more insight. “Are you acquainted with Dallas? Or did another third-party drag you in?”

Jess smiled as she reached up to take his hand, giving it a small shake, “Hello Mike, and you’d be right, this is a first for me. Jess, by the way.” she pulled her hand back, pointing around, “So how do you know the host?” she asked, crossing her arms over her chest as her head tipped to the side slightly.

She’d managed to salvage them just in time, mostly thanks to him. “Thanks. You warned me just in time. They would have been really hard to save if you hadn’t said anything.”

“No problem; glad I can help.” He stole a quick glance back towards the washing machine that held his own clothes - just in case - before extending a hand towards her. “-- Name’s Mike. Mike Lane.”

“Yeah, it would of.” He huffed a small laugh, wandering closer towards both Nani and the washer; peering to get a glimpse of her clothes. “Are they okay? I’d feel really guilty for being the second-hand cause of the destruction of your clothes.”

Another nervous chuckle before she glanced to where he was pointing at. “Oh, kanapapiki!” Slipping into Hawaiian for a brief moment to salvage her clothes from her dumb mistake, she flustered. “Thanks. That would have been a disaster.”

“Hey, it’s all good.” Mike fought the urge to laugh, instead settling for the teasing grin that marred his face. His eyes glanced down towards the machine that she pouring soap into, gesturing towards it. “-- Might want to stop before you ruin your clothes, yeah?”

Oh shit. Nani’s head shakes, and she clears her throat with an embarrassed laugh. “I am so sorry.” Now she’s the uncomfortable one, for sure. “I was….Uh…That is, you’re…yeah. Sorry.”

... She had been staring for quite a while; a couple of seconds longer that what could be considered a glance, and was heading dangerously into ogling territory, but Mike was more amused than he was uncomfortable.
