Mia had been picked up by the Perri family, and as soon as they left, Olivia headed for the fridge to grab a bottle of wine and her daughter's leftover waffle. Over the past 72 hours, Olivia had been forcing herself to put on a fake smile and act positive around her eight-year-old daughter to reassure her that everything was okay. Even though Mia insisted on staying home, Olivia needed to maintain the appearance that everything was running smoothly.
In those moments of solitude, Olivia would drink and try to numb the noise in her head. She had lost track of time and solely relied on her phone alarm to remind her an hour before Mia was due home from school so that she could clean up. Today, instead of lying on the bed or couch, she was sitting on the floor of her office. When she heard her brother, she let out a sigh, "Go away, Beau!"

WHO: @oliviaxsinclair LOCATION: Olivia's place
Upon reading the rumors about his sister and his father, Beau couldn't help but instantly believe they weren't true. It wasn't that he didn't think it was possible that his father was capable of such a thing -- he knew the kind of man Eddie Sinclair was -- but he had a hard time believing that Olivia would have been through something like this and not told him, considering how close the two have been growing up. But everything else having been shared ended up being true, so if that was the case...
Seeing the salon closed the following day, Beau found his way to Liv's place and let himself in with his key. "Liv?" he called, removing his shoes before making his way further into the house. "Livvy, where are you?"

"I could have done something..." That's what she kept telling herself. Perhaps she could have pleaded with their father not to drive away and help the man in need at that moment. Maybe she shouldn't have insisted on Eddie driving out to her game. Either way, it wasn't sitting well with her that her father had lied to her about something so egregious that she had witnessed. "God, I seriously hope they don't move in that direction." They possibly could, finding closure over their loss once and for all. Letting out a sigh, she desperately wanted to talk about anything that was not her and this ridiculous news cycle. "Why are you back?" she said, looking at her sister quizzically.

"liv, you're not a murderer and you were a child." isla replied, she knew that olivia wouldn't see it that way right now but there was truth in that statement. these are the things she wished she was away for. these are the things that made her love for her father grow cold. isla sat down on the couch with her sister. sitting her son of the floor next to him for him to play. "look, we're going to fix this. no jury or judge in their right mind would find you guilty for this. you can't help what dad did. you can't blame yourself for his bullshit, liv. he did this. not you."

"I'm sorry, I'm still feeling quite on edge, you know?" Although she didn't believe her life was at immediate risk, Olivia felt acutely aware of everything happening around her. She noticed people giving her pitying glances as she walked on the sidewalks, and she found herself having fewer conversations with the parents at her daughter Mia's practices and games. She had to continuously remind herself that she had done nothing wrong and shouldn't be ashamed for being a witness. At least, that's what she kept telling herself. "Can we try to find out who's behind this? Dante's probably dead or gone by now."

Blue eyes widening the moment he caught a glint of light reflecting off the shears in her hand, Cole raised his hands to his chest, “Easy there, Sweeney Todd– I come in peace,” he teased, lips twisting into a soft grin as a chuckle rumbled low in his chest. He let his hands drop back down to his sides once she dropped the shears, and ventured deeper into the shop, another laugh sounding from him. “Nah, I’m kinda diggin’ the manbun,” he supplied, reaching back to check that said manbun was still in place. He’d cut it all off eventually, but for now, he’d tolerate it. “Just checkin’ in,” Cole admitted, slowing to a stop. After this anonymous threat had hung her secret out to dry, Cole knew he needed to touch base. “Feels a little pointless askin’ if you’re a’right,” he continued, frowning gently, “Would rather just ask how I can help?”

"Hmm," she nodded as he explained his perspective. Although it wasn't as fully detailed as Olivia would have preferred, at least it was a start. The younger version of herself was very enthusiastic about her uncle. He always seemed to be reaching for the stars and shooting for the moon. Olivia's grandmother spoke proudly of her youngest son, even soon after he left. It was no true shock when Isla decided to follow in his footsteps. The praise that echoed off the walls of her grandparent's home was the true remnants of the family lost to them years ago. Now they were here, and Olivia needed to figure out what to do with it all.
"I understand that you had to do what felt honest to you. How could we ever fault you for that?" Liv had considered leaving Tonopah with Mia long before she told Nate about him being Mia's father. However, a part of her knew that staying in Tonopah provided her with opportunities she might not have had otherwise. "You're back now, so we just need to welcome you back into the community," she said with a small smile. "Not really. Her regret for what had happened twenty years ago surely must have been a sign that she wasn't a terrible human being. Olivia had relied heavily on her father to handle the situation, which had happened unexpectedly. All she could do was follow his instructions and entrust that he knew what he was doing. Olivia had seen a body lying on the side of the road, and Eddie had promised to go back. But where did he go that night after dropping her off at home?
"How?" she asked him earnestly. "I don't want you to be involved in this mess, Nate." Olivia preferred if one of them remained unscathed from this vicious rumor mill for Mia's sake. "Thank you for being here with me," she said softly as she nervously bit the inside of her cheek a few seconds later. "How on earth did we get here?"
Tumblr media
"Because I know plenty," of terrible people, "and you are not one of them." It was something he meant sincerely. Sure, he knew his opinion might not amount to much, especially when it was Liv who had to push herself out of those dark thoughts, but he hoped she'd listen to him. Moving his hand from its prior position he lightly tucks those loose strands of hair behind her ear, it's an action that sparks him to inch himself closer just to press a soft kiss to her forehead before he settled back. It was him trying to provide comfort in the only way he really knew how to. "Everything will be okay and I'm here for you - however you want that to look." It was something Nate meant, he'd support her in whichever way she chose. "Do you..." he pauses, trying to choose his words and then he realises he can only really say it one way, "Would you like me to make it go away?"

Olivia had heard the same sentiment from countless people in different ways. They all believed that Eddie had done everything to protect his children. He would never have allowed any harm to come to them. But Eddie was no longer there, and despite his desire to shield his children from his past, that past had bled into their present reality. Olivia knew she had to pick herself up and move forward. She couldn't change what had happened, but she could focus on the truth in the words spoken to her these last few days.
"How can you be so sure?" She had been questioning whether she was a decent person or if being a witness to such a thing had caused an overt imposter syndrome of perfectionism within her. Who was to say if the family of the dead would seek vengeance? After all, the world is a cruel place. "I just want it all to go away, Nate. Everything was okay, and now...I don't know anymore."
Tumblr media
"Maybe he thought he was protecting you." Which for Nate was something he would choose to believe, considering he - they - didn't know the truth. He just figured with how young she had been, it would surely only be natural for a father to want to shield their child from danger... harms way... all of the above. "I know..." he offered quietly; not wanting to disregard the way Liv was feeling in the slightest. She was entitled to respond and feel the way she was. "Not sure there was anything you could have done." he knew she'd be tied over the should haves and could haves, but he could only hope she'd eventually appreciate an outside perspective. "You're not a terrible person, Liv." He moved his hand just to gently cup the side of her face, his thumb tracing against her skin once more, "No one's going to touch you, okay?"

"It's just so frustrating," Olivia muttered under her breath. She didn't pay much attention to the opinions and whispers of others, even from those closest to her. She valued their perspective but ultimately, Olivia had to do what was best for her and her daughter. Overcoming her processing delay and feeling of incapability, she was proud of the success she had achieved with her salon. She didn't want it to be jeopardized by anything, especially not by this miscreant. Deep down, Olivia knew she couldn't give in to their demands, as it would mean them winning in the end. "I won't," she said softly, as she let out a small sigh.
"I just don't understand what's so significant here. What example are they trying to make out of us?" Olivia had no clue where the hell Dante was, but she'd wish someone would say something. "I don't know how anyone found out about it." Her dad had sworn her to secrecy, but that didn't mean Eddie was exempt. "I know I can't stay cooped up forever, but I just needed time to process…" It had been tucked away in the recesses of her mind for two decades. Little did she know how disparaging it would feel. "All is okay with the shop?"
Tumblr media
Kathryn didn't want to display too much pity. She knew there was nothing worse, but she also hated seeing Olivia this way. Anger was just an ice burg emotion, the very tip. What she was feeling in that moment for the people who were treating Olivia in any kind of way that wasn't with the utmost respect had her seething. "For so many years I was trapped inside my head, worrying if I stayed one place would my past catch up with me." it was the most she could offer, because as much as she knew Olivia, there were some parts of her that had to stay hidden. She'd been burned one too many times, and her secret was a heavy one to bare. Plus, right now was not the freaking time. "I worried so much I stopped myself from living in the moment. Promise me you won't do that." Reaching forward, she clasped her upper arms, looking at her with furrowed brows. "I care about you too much to see you running off and me never getting to see you again."
However, the topic change had her brows rising. "You mean except for pandemonium? Every time one of these are released, it reminds everyone they don't know whose next." Folding her arms across her midsection, she sighed. "Until these people find that Dante guy...I don't know." And she prayed she wasn't next: her secret would be the end of her. People still searched for her, wanted to kill her for the death that had befallen her hands two years ago.

Olivia had been coming into work in the later parts of the day. It was a relief to hear that the investors did not want to pull out from the expansion project she had been working on the past year. However, she still wanted to take the back seat when it came to interacting with the clientele that came through. The business had stunted for the first 72 hours of the gossip cycle, but it had picked back up and returned to normal once Olivia had stepped foot in the brick-and-mortar once more. She couldn't let some antagonizer disrupt the path and route that she had been on these last few years. The Sinclair had fought tooth and nail for her success and she'd be damned if someone's shitty agenda attempted to use her as collateral.
After finishing up with a client around 7 PM, she immersed herself in her books and orders. Mia was being taken care of by her grandparents this evening so she was in no rush to go home. What she hadn't realized was that she failed to lock the front door after her client left, causing her to reach for the sheers nearby at the sound of the bell ringing. Slowly rising, her heart slowed down at the sight of Cole. "Oh hey," she said, loosening her grip over her attempt at a dainty weapon. "Is this your attempt at an off-the-books haircut?" she joked lightly.

WHERE: Lavished Lacquer WITH: @oliviaxsinclair
Walking back through downtown towards Webster Village after leaving The Black Rabbit for the night, Cole fit a lit Marlboro between his lips and stuffed his hands in the pockets of his jackets, his steps easily adopting his natural bowlegged swagger. He hummed low under his breath, unable to help himself now that he had a song stuck in his head. Passing by the storefronts lining the sidewalk, Cole hardly paid them much mind, his sights clearly set on making it back to Webster, back to the clubhouse and the warm camaraderie it always promised on nights when he needed it the most. He stopped short though, pulled from his thoughts just long enough to notice the lights still on inside Lavished Lacquer long after business hours had drawn to a close. Given everything that had befallen Liv with the most recent anonymous warning in town, Cole decided to put his trek back to the clubhouse on pause and check in. Tossing his cigarette down onto the pavement and snuffing it out, he started for the door.
The door was still unlocked, much to his surprise, and he pushed his way through, the little bell in the door announcing his arrival. “Hey, it’s just me,” he called out, raising his hands in defense as he made his way deeper into the shop. “Light was on, figured I’d drop by,” he explained, just wanting her to know his reasoning for stopping in so unexpectedly, and after hours at that.

The touch of his thumb brushing against her cheek caught her off guard, but she welcomed it nonetheless. She closed her eyes briefly, trying to hold back any further tears. Despite the reassurances from her mother and sister, Olivia had been resistant to physical comfort from anyone else. But with Nate, it felt different. Maybe it was because they were both going through a difficult time. His own downfall was something she could reassure him about, just as he could be there for her now. "I just can't believe he would lie to me like that. Even if he was scared... it just doesn't make sense," Olivia said, unable to let go of that thought. She had always held her father in high regard, but he was the perpetrator of callous and emotionless actions that now directly hurt her. "A man died, Nate. I could have done something... I should have."
Tumblr media
Once she gave him permission he got up only to get into the bed beside her, taking his jacket off before he did so he purposely laid closer to her, he's on his side, his head also rested on the comfort of his arm that was sinking into the pillow. When Olivia turned it didn't go amiss to him that she had been crying - or that she was trying not to - and so momentarily he brought his left hand towards her cheek, brushing his thumb softly against her skin. "That's natural." that she was scared - he got how the situation would weigh heavy on her. As she spoke about sending a letter and flowers to the victim's family his expressions remained neutral, intentionally so, considering he was wondering why she had. Surely it was years too late for that? Though Nate figured for himself that that was an action of guilt. "You were thirteen, Liv, you're not gonna be held responsible for your dad's actions." His tone was soft - quiet - he was trying to ease her in some ways. "I'm sure if he told you he'd handle it, you believed him. You don't need to feel guilty for that." she was a child, one that would by default believe anything a parental figure told her. "I know that you do," it was clear as day, "but what I'm trying to say is that you don't need to be hiding away, you did nothing wrong." which he hoped that she did believe because as far as he saw it, it was true.

"I know," she said, letting out a sigh in agreement with her friend's statements. Kathryn was right. Mia had already taken on a lot of responsibilities at a young age. Olivia wanted to prepare her daughter for the unusual world they lived in, thanks to their family name and the hidden secrets of Tonopah. However, she also wanted to shield her daughter's childhood for as long as possible. Olivia knew that she couldn't burn herself out and leave nothing of herself for Mia in the end. Olivia led them into the living room and plopped on the couch, trying to get comfortable once more. "I haven't kept up with the real world...what's been going on?" she asked.
Tumblr media
Kathryn wished she had the answer to make it all go away, the media frenzy would die down, but even then, the lingering effects were always a worry. She wouldn't say that to Olivia, though, she didn't need her panicking more than she already was. Stopping for a moment, hands finding the tops of her shoulders, she shook her head. "Do not run from this," because Kathryn had spent her whole life running, she still was, for christ sake. "It'll get you no where. Mia is strong, she'll get past this. But she won't get past it if they begin questioning you, and you make yourself look guilty."

Olivia wasn't good at showing vulnerability. She felt exposed and visible to everyone who glanced her way. Her presence was evident in the neighborhood, from her house to the salon, and even in Mia's school. She had gone through a lot to get to where she was today, and the thought that it could all be over because of a momentary mistake was terrifying. "Okay," she said softly, waiting for him to take the other side of the bed. Wiping away the tears that were starting to form in her eyes, she turned to face Nate. "I don't know what to do. I'm trying to be strong for Mia, but I'm scared, Nate." The deep dives into the internet made everything seem blurry. Olivia could be charged with a crime if the family decided to press charges. The idea was paralyzing for the Sinclair family. "I sent a letter and flowers to the family as an apology for my dad's actions a few days ago..."
Tumblr media
"Yeah she's fine." he responded softly, unable to help the frown just waiting to seep into his expressions the more he looked at Olivia. He wasn't necessarily surprised at her trying to push him away; in some ways he got it. Nate doesn't move, however, when she told him to go, he stayed put for now. "I'm not here to make sense of anything, Liv, I'm here for you." which was the truth. Sure, he had asked if she wanted to talk about it, but that was just him wanting her to know she could when she was ready to. "You don't have to stay cooped up alone." which was in similar ways - running with that theme of being alone, what she had told him, though of course Nate knew how much she hated being cared for - it was something he had picked up on pretty quickly. "Can I get in?" he asked, meaning beside her.

"Everything is just fucked Kat." Olivia, was left in disarray by the publication of gossip surrounding herself and her father. She had been dependent on her father Eddie's words and had no sense of direction. However, Eddie's actions had failed her, leaving her to deal with the aftermath and consumed by guilt. The only thing keeping her somewhat functional was her daughter Mia, who was like a guiding star to her.
"If I go, then they'll think I'm complicit. If I stay, then I'm worried for Mia." She didn't care about people's opinions of her but didn't want them to overshadow her daughter's greatness. "Someone literally tagged the shop the other day. I don't know what the other side of this looks like, but I'm exhausted."
Tumblr media
If there was anything that spelled 'not being okay' was that the house was dead silent, not the sound of a TV or radio echoed, no lights lit up the darker part of the house as the sun was beginning to dip earlier. When she walked through the open door, she stopped just shy of the entrance as blue orbs slowly traced down the face of her friend to her clothes. A heavy sigh left her mouth as she continued to walk until she stopped further into the hallway.
Kat could already sense the house was too quiet for a child to be present, which she was grateful as sadness touched those features. She'd attempted to keep sympathy from leaking through; but that was hard, especially in this kind of situation. "I thought we didn't lie to each other," she said softly.

"Sure, just shoot me a text," she said. Olivia wanted to ensure that there were no barriers to Nate's personal growth, considering the track record of these spells from men in the clubhouse to those trickling around Tonopah Valley. She knew that Nate was too good of a man to be swept away by himself and his unhealthy coping mechanisms. "Well, sometimes the most unlikely people have a way of providing a perspective we did not otherwise know we needed." Olivia was grateful that Nate had spoken with this man, whoever he was. Despite being frustrated and worried about his disappearance, she was relieved and glad to see him back, albeit a bit disheveled and fractured at the moment. She knew he would bounce back in due time. "We're happy to have you home," she said with a small smile. "Mia should be here in about ten minutes, I'm just going to prepare her stuff for bed."
Tumblr media
He found himself more taking in a mental note of the flavours she liked; it was more on that just in case basis. As well as if Mia ever wanted to try and do something nice for her mom again, Nate would already know what options to go for. "Yeah I know." he responds lightly, knowing that both Mia and Liv would always hold permanent places in his life. He didn't mind, in fact he actually welcomed it. Though truthfully? Nate thought it was the other way around, that they were stuck with him. Either way it wasn't ever a thought that had or would ever burden him, even despite Liv's own doubts initially. Nate did understand, however, she had a daughter to protect and his sudden disappearance was not something that looked good. However, he was here now and he did want to prove that he was worth the place he had in their lives.
He nodded softly - it's understanding. "Thanks I --" he scratched the back of his head, his brows creased briefly, "Haven't even been back there yet so I'm not even sure... I'll call you though if I need help?" he asked just to double check he could, even though she was telling him she was free. Nate just didn't want to feel like he was bothering her, especially as he had said, she was already doing more than enough for him. "Few hours away," it was more than that but he wasn't sure he wanted to get into the specifics, "Just drove until I stopped, don't really remember..." he softly admits, knowing that that probably didn't sound all that great, but it was the best way he could explain it. "Met a stranger who helped me, he didn't have to and yet he really pulled me up a little, so..." he nods lightly, "Not sure where I'd be without it." He was choosing to be honest, wanting to keep with that theme of being open with Olivia, as well as needing to start back off on the right foot.

"I'm a complicit murderer who deserves to rot in jail." Olivia had seen one of many salacious comments on the salon's social media pages before she removed the commenting option from the platforms. Her loyal customers supported her, showing their pity when she went out of the house for a quick moment. The rumors about Eddie Sinclair still had an impact beyond his death and now affected the success that Olivia had created for herself. "I don't know. I've just been lying down." The redhead couldn't tell if she had fallen asleep or not. "No, that's okay," she said, wrapping her arms around herself. "You don't have to worry about me, Isla." At least not now, as long as she didn't have to go to jail for a crime she was somewhat complicit in as a witness. "I didn't know, Isla...I didn't know," she said, feeling a lump forming in her throat. The last thing she needed was her family to view her in a different light.
Tumblr media
isla sighed as she went ahead and pushed her way into the door trying not to shove her sister or hurt her son, “i don’t have to do a lot of things.” isla stated with a sigh, “but, i need to make sure you are okay— well, as okay as you can be.” she sighed, maybe she she was being hypocritical coming in olivia’s home to check on her when she had vanished for so many years not even checking on her family. she was here now. she was trying to be a better sister and when you’re the youngest you tend to be the annoying one who burst in unannounced. “have you eaten? or slept? because livy, you look like you haven’t slept. no offense…” she said looking her older sister over once more. “do you need a hug?” her tone so soft and low she wasn’t even sure the words came out. maybe she was scared of the rejection or scared she wasn’t achieving what she came her to.

"What?" She had been a bit disoriented by the sight of Nate at the foot of her bed, but her focus came back to her quickly. "Is Mia okay?" she asked, inching onto her forearm. Panic started to hit Olivia as thoughts flooded her mind. Had she missed a call? Had someone tried to contact her? She had been functioning below capacity since the news came out about her being present, but turned it on in front of her daughter whenever they were around. Olivia knew how perceptive Mia was and had even told the young girl to stop worrying about her overall well-being. All she could do at this moment was reassure her daughter that she was not as bad off as she may have seemed. Instead, he was here on behalf of their daughter. She didn't want to talk about this. "I am tired of the condolences and people trying to make sense of it all, Nate. Please just go," Olivia said, resting her head back down on the pillow.

with: @oliviaxsinclair where: Olivia's home.
Before letting himself into Olivia's home he had tried to contact her on several occasions, more so off his own back once he heard about the drama surrounding her and Eddie that was circulating, and more so promptly when he had heard from Mia. Pushing through the front door once he had unlocked it he makes his way through her house, "Liv?" he called out as he started to check downstairs, wanting to at least make her aware that he was there - her car still being in the driveway was his tell that she was here somewhere. With unsuccessful attempts downstairs his soon makes his way up the stairs, calling out again just so there was no surprise factor to him actually being here. Reaching her bedroom after checking the other rooms, he knocks on the door lightly a few times before he moved through. Seeing her laying in her bed had him frowning slightly, deciding for himself to sit at the bottom of the bed with no invitation to do so. "Mia's worried about you." he chooses to say first before, "Do you want to talk about it or do you want a hug first?"

"We should throw them a 'You don't hate us!' party. I think that would be a great icebreaker, don't you?" Although Liv was cautious, she wasn't the same woman her uncle nor her sister remembered her being when they left or even at their last contact. All she could hope for was that they were able to fit into this world she was creating for herself and Mia alongside Beau and the people most important to her. "Gosh, I could only imagine what Dad would think," she chuckled before taking another bite of her burger.
Tumblr media
Beau hummed quietly to himself. Although Isla hadn't said anything yet to either of them about why she'd returned, Beau figured it was a subject he should broach the next time he saw her. "It's probably too optimistic to consider they were maybe just homesick," he replied with a chuckle. "I don't know. I guess we can just love on them until they feel like they can tell us what's going on. Not much more to do than that; they're family, after all."

"Yeah, I know," he replied softly, looking down for a moment as the shame surged through his body. He was getting this question a lot and he should have gotten better at answering. But the truth was that he had no idea. None of this had been his plan. "Truth is I don't really now what brought me back here. Thought it was work but I think it was really just time." It wasn't a total lie. "I"m teaching, picked up some side work. Helping people fix their busted computers. Honestly after I found out about Eddie," he paused, the shame shaking him again as he cleared his throat. "I realized it's just time for me to stay still for a little while. Your grandparents have been really happy to have me back," he admitted, feeling guilty for it. He had been so sure they would ignore him like they had for so long but it was clear that with Eddie gone, they had wanted to cling to the chance to actually be parents again. It was hard to process but he couldn't run from it, he wouldn't. "I know I'm sorry feels like an empty phrase but I am, sorry, for being so absent." He was grateful when someone came to take their order, drinking a few gulps of water quickly. "But I uh, I've seen your sister a lot," he admitted, not exactly sure if that helped the situation. "You two been spending time together? I know she really missed you."
