We started this project by looking at Penguin books, from a random set of books I got the book called “How to Use Your Enemies” by Baltasar Gracian. So to link to that further to my character I decided to make a cover of a book / comic which would include my character.
I began the process by thinking of how I can combine the title of the book and Helga into one thing and then I relised that since the character of Lissandra is eventually manipulating my character to her death, I thought she would fit in perfectly as she is using Helga for the greater good. Lissandra is only able to do this because she gained this power from her enemies “The Watchers” so it fit’s the title. I began by doing a really rough sketch of Lissandra, deciding that she could be looking into something- like a crystall ball- to show that she is watching Helga. But that wouldn’t really work since Lissandra is blind so I decided to make Helga floating in magic created by the Ice Witch. I decided that since Helga has no controll over this situation she should have her weapon, shield and helmet off to show that she really is powerless.
After the rough sketch I created a much more detailed sketch to make it easier for the next step, aspecially that I did not draw Lissandra before and didn’t know her design as well. Instead of using lineart for each seperate thing for the next step. I decided to only give certain areas an outline to make things more chaotic as Lissandra  caused the greates chaos on Runeterra (her planet) and preventet it form destroying the world. I used different colours for eachlayer, after all areas were marked I went ahead to use actual colours and do shading. Also I lowered the opacity on Lissandra’s fingertips to make them a little seethrough since they are made of Ice.
I created a circle and lowered it’s opacity the further out it was to create the magic ball in which Helga is. I outlined almost everypart of her, except for the leathery part’s as she is approaching her own doom caused by Lissandra’s hands. I used the same technique to shade Helga as I did for the official character, then I put anothercircle on top of her and lowered the opacity of it.
I used a black and dark blue airbrush to make areas fade into the distance, and use bright cyan and white tones to creat the highlights on the areas that would get the most light. Also since in the character profile I used low opacity lines to fit the League theme more, I decided to add them here as well to showcare the powerfull magic.
However I used these lines for composition, bottom left corner was too empty so there is a lot of them there. The lines go away from the centre of attention (since the bright orb stands out form the background and drag the eye) to the title. The title should stand out by it self since it’s the only yellow thing but you don’t judge a book by it’s cover so you need the full attention on the title. These lines also get attention on Lissandra’s face, which is usefull since her pose and armour all point away from her to Helga.

For the Final I was heavily inspired by Liger Inuzka, so heavily that in fact I stoppedthinking out side of the box and tried to copy what he did but with my League character instead.
But trying to do something for the first time is obviously not going to workout as well as how another artist with hundreds of hours of experience did it. I fell intro the trap of “this is not good enough” and gave up on this final. I finished only what I sketched in the beginning.I was going to do more, like in the reference. but I didn’t even design the icons for Helga’s skills ! They are a key feature for the player in game, and I did not do that.
I tried to do the squareish background thing he did, which looked awful. I added the name and a symbol behind the character just like he did. I even added the colours on the right side like he did !! This is honestly a catastrophe, the only thing I like are the shiny light lines and they are there because they appear a lot in the game launcher. 
I used my usual process of roughsketch, lineart, fixlineart, blockcolour, shade, add highlights. But this time I used my new knowladge of anatomy to prepare for the lineart. Except that I did not like it afterwards so I changed it. Also I tried to do the Gold writing in League style, which did not turn out that bad. 
If I ever had to do this again, I would change everything. Not look at someone else’s work is rule number one.

I did some studies of female anatomy which basicaly involved me redrawing what I saw on https://www.zygotebody.com/. With the darkest colour i created the outline of the woman, then outlined some of the most visible muscles. With two lighter tones I showed which way the muscle fibers go. this could be usefull aspecially when shading.The two lightest colours I used were for key features like knees,backbone area and boobs. Also the skeleton is just what I can see from certain angle as organs would cover the areas behind them.

I never did a feet practice before hence why they were so bad. I basically took pictures of feet and drew them, I started all of them by drawing a circle as the ball oft the feet, then drew te ankle. After that i went ahead to do bottom of the feet and toes - then the top. I added the wrinkles by the end of the process since they looked wierd and empty. The very last thing I did was add a layer of flat shadow. which i think slightly helped.

comissions

In the span of two months one person has comissioned me to draw the same character on fiverr. The character is a German pilot from WW2, for both of them the pose for the character has been provided. 
Pose 1 is form Pheonix Wright from the Capcom's Ace Attorney game series, while Pose 2 is from a pose they found on Google- i could not find a source.  They also send me the photo of this character, it was an Illustration by Doqida on Deviantart.  For 2 they asked me to give the character a smile similar to the one Alastor from Vivziepop’s “Hazbin Hotel” has since it’s Haloween soon.
1 took me around 6 hours, I have recorded the entire process however the recording got lost as the week I finished this comission I got a new PC. 2 took me 6 hours as well - from what I can see from the recorded files. However one of the files got corrupted and there is a big chunk of process missing, but by looking at the procegress I made in the missing time I think it took me 7 hours in total.

I haven’t really refined the character’s face so I decided to do some sketches of the characters face in different facial expressions. I did a rough sketch of each face, then went ahead and build it up layer by layer- head,hair,helmet and then erased the areas which should not be seen ( plus added shadow at the end)

Why make a character for this game, and not for another game ?
I wanted to create a character for this game specifically because of the amazing art that is in this game and the inspiration it gives me
. Every time you want to play a game you have to go through Champion Select and Loading Screen, and what do you see on your screen ? Splasharts of all all characters, each of them is so unique that you can even recognise who the character is just from a tiny icon of their face. 
The game has 150+ champions, all of them look like they belong to one world without looking identical. And every single one of these champions have their own skins, minimum of one but some have  up to 13 !! In all of the skins they look completely different but you can still identify who the character is just by looking at it !

What is the game about and what is the lore behind it
“League of Legends” is a MOBA (Multiplayer Online Battle Arena), in the game you play 5 vs. 5 and there are two modes. There is the main one on a map called Summoner’s Rift, there are three lanes : top, mid, bot and there is also jungle (the players are split 1, 1, 2, 1). There is also a map called The Howling Abbys - which has only one lane and you play it with a game mode called ARAM - All Random All Mid- where you get a random character.
The game it self is not related to the story, however the character voicelines, interactions and designs are cannon. But the map Holwing Abbys is an actual location in the universe - this place is actually related to my character Helga as that map is on the Frostguard Citadel.
However the actual story of the game is much more interesting than the game

I began by sketching out the pose my character will be standing in, then I added in clothes on the next layer. Once I was happy with the sketch i blocked out the areas in colour, each colour on a different layer,
After shading I added details such as pattern on her high knee sock and engraved patterns in her armour. At this stage I realised her pose is unstable so I decided to move the leg for more balance.
Then I did the sketches for different views of her armour and went over the less important areas in just black lines while for the important stuff I repeated the process of block in colour and shading.

Today we had a drawing practice which is unrelated to my project, however it was interesting to learn what shapes to use to draw horses.
The very first drawing is me drawing the horse without any guidelines or tips, it was just me trying to recreate the picture. But it ended up looking sad, wishing for death.
Then our group was drawing the same picture (which happens to be the one i chose in the first place), but this time we were told a step by step od how to draw it.
First draw a bean, both of it's sides pointig downwards.
Then draw two round doritos which overlap the bean (bum one is upside down).
Draw tiny diamonds halfway through the leg lines,and at the bottom of them. Those are the thickest points of the legs.
Draw a curve from the front dorito to do it's neck.
Draw a circle at the end of it's neck, then draw a smaller one nearby to do the head.
Draw two slightly curved lines for his front legs, while the back two legs are more curved (almost look as if there are supposed to be two lines.
The hooves are pointed triangles,with a little circle cut out on the back of them above the actual hooves.
The first one I did with these guidelines seemed a bit long, however the next one was even longer. The fourth one was timed, we had two minutes to do it, nethertheless it turned out the best do far. I was determined to not make it into another hot dog, and I did not. I also had some practice since the previous ones were in a similar pose.
The next ones are drawn by either not picking ul w penci, feathering lightly and then going over the lines or timed to 3 min.
The 9th one has a wierd pose but it turned out pretty well, unlike the 11th one. On the other hand 10th one is looking the other way and it has a head of a dog.
The last one is the very same picture I drew at the very beginning, it still looks sad but it doesn't look like it wishes death. I felt confident enough that I shaded it to emphesise it's anatomy and muscle definition.

I created a skill sheet of the character, in League of Legends each character has four specific skills- 3 regular [ Q,W,E] and 1 ultimate [R]. 
[Q] She holds the axe by the fabric attached, swings it from left to right and then she catches the axe with her shield ( It get’s stuck in the shield and she rips it out ). The ability deals damage in a cone shape, the further you are from her the more damage it deals.
[W] She rises her shield and axe hand to create an X on her chest. This ability blocks all incoming damage from that direction for 2 seconds, however she can still be damage from all other directions.
[R] She swings her axe back then forth ( while holding the cloth attached to the axe) and throws it at an enemy champion, the axe then bounces to all other enemy champions in it’s range. It can only hit one champion maximum of one time. After all enemies in range have been hit, the axe returns to her. While the axe is thrown she cannot use [Q].

My progress of creating the skill sheet for my character inspired by Larry “The Bravo” Ray.
First I began my process by drawing a really rough outline of the character  without clothes using a thick brush. Since Ray did not use any lineart I also did not, therefore I began colouring in the areas, layering them how they would actually be layered on a real person and also doing one layer for all at the same time. This helped with not forgetting any details on her, and also keeping the proportions the same. 
For other skills I used the first pose I created in this as it would be her deafult stance, i mainly copied that pose and modyfied it to match my desired pose - erasing some things, redrawing them, rotating them etc.

Week Review
What went well ?
I reached my target of researching 10 artists
I worked on the illustration
I did a mindmap of bookcovers
I did two video tutorials
What didn’t ?
I did not finish the illustration to the point I wanted to
Why ?
I could not login to my mac for an entire day and used that time to do sketches instead on paper.
I struggled with drawing the face and focused too much on how the face looks.
I was working on this using photoshop, I do not have photoshop at home so I could not access it. 
This was not my final goal of this project and I already spent too much time on it.
To do this week 
Create a sheet about a character and her abilities inspired by Larry “The Bravo” Ray 
Create a sheet about a character inspired by Sangsoo Jeong

I had already spent way to much time on this so I decided to not do it the way I wanted as this is not the goal of my project. So now this is the final version, the character walking through snowstorm.
I decided to lower the hand as I did’t want it to cover her face, which I once again modified. I styalised it more but I think it could still use more work - but like I said I already spent toomuch time on this. 
Also I decided to keep it greyscaled since I worked so much on the face in black and white I did not want to change it anymore.

After creating the defined sketch some areas like the shoulder pad’s attachment and breastplate have been changed as in the previous design they did not make a lot of sense so I mainly followed the new sketch and made lineart for it.
I also tried to add hair but I didn’t really fit to how the face was drawn so later on I changed it anyway.

I attempted to make the face more styalised while not chanding it to much, so I made the eye bigger bu that did not change much. I relised I already spent way too much time on the face so I decided to go ahead and work on the rest of the drawing. I decided to add lineart it was much easier when the sketch I followed has already been more defined.
