Sometimes the smallest thing can rewrite the trajectory of your life. For example: the reason I could only think about Dragon Ball Z for five years of my mortal life is I attended a local theater one-act play based on Waiting for Godot where Vegeta and Frieza were fighting on namek and waiting for Goku. It was so good it rewrote my brain chemistry permanently

Now that I think about it, one of the most dated, late-80s-to-early-90s things about the Simpsons is that the comically evil energy executive Mr. Burns, who callously pollutes the environment to accrue more personal wealth, owns a fucking nuclear fission plant, as opposed to what I suppose the original Simpsons writers were framing as the sane, safe, and clean alternative; coal fired turbines.

To anyone who believes fairy tale romances never happen in real life, may I remind you that JRR and Edith Tolkien met and experienced a forbidden love in their youth, and then were separated for five whole years because of his guardian’s rules that he could not date till he was 21, and she got engaged to someone else only because she assumed he’d forgotten her and lost hope that she could ever be with him, but then on his 21st birthday, he wrote her a letter saying he still loved her and wanted to marry her, she responded basically saying ‘if I’d known you hadn’t left me on the shelf, I would never have said yes to anyone else,’ then a week later she greeted him at the train station and then immediately dumped her fiancé, and they got married and she converted to his religion and danced for him in a flowering field far away from the trenches into which he was drafted, which left such an impression that he crafted an entire story about the most beautiful maiden in the world who danced in the woods and made enormous sacrifices to be with the man she loved, and they had four kids and remained faithful to each other and blissfully grew old together and their gravestones are now marked with the names of that same fictional couple that he created, who broke every rule and overcame every possible obstacle to be together and get a happy ending, who only did all that because he based it all on their own real love story.

me a month ago: “haha it’s a sexy kidnapping!”
soon afterward: “oops i accidentally made a really sweet couple via sexy kidnapping. i better write some character backstory about why she’s so okay with being sexy kidnapped”
me now: “okay time to write the absolutely heartwrenching conversation where the sexy kidnappee finally calls her mother and explains she’s been out of contact and presumed dead for fifteen months because of being sexy kidnapped by the love of her life
and that even though she has a tragic backstory making the sexy kidnapping okay, she has grown so much as a character (due to the sexy kidnapping) that she has come to regret what being sexy kidnapped must have done to the people in her old crappy life.
the original main character isn’t even in this one because it’s a spin off designed to explore what the sexy kidnappee is like without her sexy kidnapper around (sexy kidnapper is in another country resolving the muti-story background arc about her businesses which will result in significant sociopolitical changes to the setting). it’s mostly about the strategies she’s developed to navigate her autism.
everyone is crying.
i’m crying the most.
I still have not shown anyone else any of these.”
it took exactly two days for "writing deliberately nonsense porn on my phone" to become "writing meta-commentary on the act of writing nonsense porn on my phone" to become "writing elaborate worldbuilding for the nonsense porn on my phone" to become "literally not even writing porn anymore and just writing funny dialog with the characters who i originally intended to be cardboard cutouts to project kinks onto"
to be clear, i started writing the porn because i thought it would be hot to write porn, and within 48 hours i'm writing the main character's existential breakdown because two intersecting porn logic tropes cancelled each other out
"You know, when I tell girls 'I'm going to show you a world of pain and pleasure until the two become one', I'm really hoping there's a learning period in there where I get to have my fun," Sarah explained, sitting on a nearby stool and looking for all the world like a kicked puppy in BDSM gear. Katie, still confused but determined to salvage the situation, nodded slowly. "I get that, I do, I'm just really into it!" "I hate you," Sarah growled. Katie shivered pleasantly.
this is why i can't be trusted with literally anything

there's a shocking number of commonly used american english words and phrases whose origins are some combination of "ESL neologism used by east asian immigrant workers in america and hawaii in the late 19th and early 20th century" and "hey everyone, the china marines brought back a new word again!"
When people get a little too gung-ho about-
wait. cancel post. gung-ho cannot be English. where did that phrase come from? China?
ok, yes. gōnghé, which is…an abbreviation for “industrial cooperative”? Like it was just a term for a worker-run organization? A specific U.S. marine stationed in China interpreted it as a motivational slogan about teamwork, and as a commander he got his whole battalion using it, and other U.S. marines found those guys so exhausting that it migrated into English slang with the meaning “overly enthusiastic”.
That’s…wild. What was I talking about?

these are my thotz as someone who has been directly exposed to 2022 and 1966 batman within less than a month: there's a sweet spot between silly/gloomy ways to write bruce wayne, there's unpleasant extremes, and then there's the real extremes that are such weird little freaks that they make perfect sense
