the notes on that last poll are insane there was someone who said they separate fics into "porn" and "story" and they didnt stop for a second to think that sex in and of itself might be a story??? the way some of you people trivialize sex and explicit art is fucking bonkers to me. you sound like a christian when you act like sex cheapens art or like art focusing on sex is a completely separate category from non-sexual art. explicit fics, yes even pwp (which i believe is a misnomer anyways), are telling stories and they're stories worth telling because sex is normal and healthy and deeply important to many of us. just because something gets you off doesn't mean it's cheap or meaningless. i'd argue that things that engage the viewer sexually are very meaningful because human sexuality is complex and beautiful and worth sharing and exploring. something i forgot and really love about the early seasons when sam and dean are learning to relate to each other as adults is how gentle sam is with dean’s trauma. whereas when sam expresses frustration at how they were raised dean will usually respond by defending their upbringing or john (sometimes you were out of line / what was he supposed to do you know what’s out there) in something wicked the first thing sam says when dean tells that horrific story about the shtriga and how he blames himself is you were just a kid. when dean says “don’t” sam doesn’t push, but  he makes a point to apologise later for his own actions (giving dean a hard time for listening to their dad when he didn’t get why). he’s constantly saying it wasn’t your fault, i didn’t know you carried me out of the fire, I didn’t know you were carrying all of this, I always thought you were just on dad’s side but i understand now and I’m sorry. It feels like he’s dancing around saying “this wasn’t fair to you” without saying that outright bc dean’s not at all ready to hear that, and to me it really shows that sam has grown up with such a strong sense self compared to dean- likely due to dean’s supportive influence- and how being away from his family for those crucial few years at stanford gave him that perspective that dean tragically never got. idk where im going with this but early seasons rlly had something and also i love sammy. best empathetic boy <3
