A Mid-Welsh Weekender

Hey everyone,

If you are reading this, you have secured yourself a seat at the Mid-Wales Weekender of October 2023, now you just need to make sure you have a room to recover in!

As you know, our venue is tucked away in the beautiful, rolling hills of Mid-Wales. The Giraffe Shed is approximately 1 hour 30 mins drive from Chester or just over an hour if you're Wrexham way, as many of you are.

With the day's events starting at 10:30am sharp and the evening ending with the crowning of the Beer Pong Champion, we can safely say you'll need a place to stay for the weekend (Friday 6th Oct-Sunday 8th Oct).

PJ, ever the seasoned traveller, has spent time curating, conversing and finding the best places for you guys to stay and make the most of the celebration. The list is as follows:

The Elephant & Castle Hotel - Newtown, SY16 2BQ

Additional Details: This hotel has 14 double/twin rooms, 5 double executive rooms, 1 triple room and 1 family room. If you go for this one, when calling to make the booking ask for Helen, she is making sure that everything runs smoothly for us! This is also the hotel that Jenny Douglas PT rated the highest...probably because it's across the road from the local nightclub.

Parkers House B&B - Newtown, SY16 2LW

Additional Details: This B&B has 8 double bedrooms and you also get breakfast included in your booking. PJ has successfully held the 8 rooms. If you would like to book in here, give them a ring, ask for Hannah and tell her you'd like to book one of the October 2023 rooms held under "Douglas" (weirdly enough!). We would recommend having a look at the website before booking as the room prices vary. There is also a lovely little toy shop over the road that has some fancy cars Finn particularly likes...

Yesterday's Hotel - Newtown, SY16 2AG

Additional Details: This guesthouse has 2 single rooms, 1 double room, 2 triple rooms and 1 quad room, making it ideal if you're travelling as part of a small group. Moyra, the manager, has been a star and is going to temporarily close bookings for the weekend for us. If you give her a call and mention that you are part of PJ & Ellie's wedding, she'll sort everything for you.

The Nag's Head Inn - Garthmyl, SY16 6RS

Additional Details: Lovers of luxury and pub grub, we've heard your cries and have found you this place. This Inn has several accolades to it's name, including the prestigious AA breakfast award of 2022! They have 7 double rooms and 1 single room up for grabs. If you would like this place, we'd recommend booking right now...don't even read the end of this, it can wait! This is ideal for those that will have a designated driver to and from the venue as it is a little further out from Newtown.

Something a Little Different or a Larger Group?

If you fit into one of these categories, then have a look around for cabins in the area; there are plenty to choose from. With The Giraffe Shed being on the doorstep of the National Cycle Route 81 (always got your back, Joel!) you can find some hidden gems to stay at if a hotel doesn't do it for you. We'd also recommend looking at Airbnb and Vrbo for some sweet dealz in the area.

And Finally...

We are in the process of booking a coach to and from the venue. However, to keep the coach driver from having to brave the narrow, and quite frankly, scary rural Welsh roads, we are only looking at having this picking up and dropping off in the centre of Newtown as that is where most of the accommodation is based.
