The education in rural areas needs inmediate attention and support

Apes Misiones Rurales improves the education of village children in Peru
Áncash is one of the departments with the lowest scores in Peru in terms of reading comprehension and logical-mathematical learning. Out of every 100 children in the first year of elementary school, only 23 learn enough to move up to the next grade.
The project in which Fundación MAPFRE collaborates is aimed at improving school skills and abilities and achieving a better future for children in rural areas. Additionally, it seeks to promote the development of the students’ cognitive skills through a creative and playful approach to education. Its purpose is also to provide teachers with new tools that will enable them to improve the quality of the education they offer their students. In terms of health, the project also supplies highly nutritious products to banish anemia and the consequences this has on children’s development.
This initiative uses “Bibliotecas Lúdicas“, or play libraries, as spaces to promote reading and the development of cognitive skills that benefit reading comprehension. The goal is also to familiarize children and teachers with new technologies and pedagogical methodologies through the use of tablets.
Besides this, the project also has its own bakery where students have the opportunity to learn a trade with a view to their workplace and social insertion.
