As I’ve written about previously, I had to take nearly a year off school after getting kicked out. I remember how daunting it was to not be done with school, yet have to face the real world somehow with ¾ of a college education. At first, I was TERRIFIED about where life was about to take me, I had really hit the bottom, and hard…I also was going through the end of a long-term relationship…also recovering from surgery, so it was quite a whirlwind of struggles to cope with…but what came out of all of this was an incredible transformation that may not have happened if life didn’t direct me the way it did.
Beginning of my transformation: December 2014/January 2015
I had shoulder surgery and prior to the event, I wasn’t able to exercise the way I normally do, so I was at my heaviest weight here. About 155lbs. This picture depicts me around the time I was also going through some intense heartbreak. I think I was just so in and out of depression that I stopped listening to the needs of my soul and let myself become a blob.
Forced to either let the depression consume me or strengthen me, I chose the latter. I HAD NOTHING ELSE TO LOSE, AND EVERYTHING TO GAIN. So I started working out more, specifically in nature…nearly every sunrise you would find me awake running towards the sun. From there, I felt my mind, body and soul begin to heal and cooperate with each other and that’s when I really began to love myself. And by loving myself, I just mean that I did things that gave me peace and made me feel good! After deciding to stop hating myself for my mistakes, here are some of the things I managed to accomplish in my time off:
1. I started getting more energy/wisdom from chasing the sunrise and reading more books.
2. I learned how to balayage/bleach hair, dyed my own hair blonde/grey, and got good enough that people were asking me to do their hair! (YOUTUBE EDUCATION FOR THE WIN)
3. I put my musical inclination to use by learning to DJ. (Find my soundcloud @ mitch the b word !)
4. I tried light gloving for shits and giggles. Was fairly decent at it, but decided I already had too many hobbies.
5. I voluntarily signed up for a physical beating called the aerial hammock.
6. I went exploring more. Everywhere. No place was off limits.
7. I turned into a dancing machine. Chasing every opportunity to dance, dance, dance. Not only for exercise, but because of the way it energized my soul.
8. Lastly, I pushed myself physically to get in shape mentally. Nearly half a year after my shoulder surgery, I got myself in shape to do pull-ups.
In the process of loving myself, and focusing on REALLY loving myself the way I would a five year old child, truly wanting the best for myself, I lost almost 30 pounds going from a size 8-10 to a size 2-4.
Looking at the picture from my surgery, it’s hard to believe I was ever at such a low point. But SO MANY GOOD THINGS HAPPENED. Life broke me apart at one point, but I stand wiser, shinier and happier than I’ve ever been before.
“You may encounter many defeats, but you must not be defeated. In fact, it may be necessary to encounter the defeats, so you can know who you are, what you can rise from, how you can still come out of it.”
I see many Winnie the Poohs at the hospital (aka Winnie aka Pooh aka Pooh Bear), as you may guess. Many look like this, a bit flat and with small wounds, designed to have a removable shirt:
They come for spas:
New hearts and stuffing:
And plumping up so they have a proper belly again:
Sometimes they look like this:
A bit more loved… or as his person said, in more “desperate condition”.
He also had a spa (not everyone does):
As you may’ve noticed, he needed a new nose and there were several options:
His heart had a pooh on it as well as some magic from a heffalump:
And after a bit of arm and smile surgery, soon he was healthy and ready to fly home:
His person wrote “He looks wonderful!”
The final Pooh I’m going to show you today just flew home yesterday. He is always called Pooh Bear. He is 14 years old and showed every year of hugs.
Here are the photos his person’s mom sent for diagnosis:
As you can see, Pooh Bear was a bit flat and a bit gray. He came in for a spa:
Got new stuffing and a magical Heffalump heart to preserve a bit of his original stuffing:
And finally was clean and plump and fluffy and ready to fly home:
He could even sit on his own! His people said his chubbiness was perfect and as I said, he flew home yesterday!
Aparently the tooth fairy is a pretty controversial figure among skeletons. some think she is a thief that steals mouth bones others think she is the true skeleton queen.
