I’m gonna jump on this Justin Mercado discussion and say that he was absolutely right to fire MC.

And it’s crazy to me how some people wanted an LI that would reject MC, but can’t handle it when one calls them out for being blatantly in the wrong 😂 I’m all for having an MC with backbone, but there’s a difference between standing up for yourself and just being an impulsive idiot. There was definitely a more professional way for her to air her grievances. And the fact that she sees nothing wrong with what she did and now hates Justin just plays into the “entitled millennial” stereotype everyone hates.

I will say Justin’s talk about nipping the issue in the bud from the beginning wasn’t right. It definitely showed the privilege he has as a man compared to MC who is a woman; however, I still agree with him for the most part. He is also a character of color and seems to know there’s a certain way you have to carry yourself in the workplace, especially when you’re not white. He wouldn’t be CEO otherwise. That’s another reason why this non-choice to act an ass is so annoying because an MC of color would know that as well.

Should she have to work twice as hard to get half as much respect?

Should she have to worry about representing everyone who looks like her rather than just herself?

No. But the fact remains that aside from those injustices, she was still out of line and deserved the consequences she got.

I’ll even go further and say that Justin was justified in telling his sister not to have MC plan her wedding. He knows she’s new to the wedding planning business. Additionally, that outburst was his first impression of her in a professional setting. Why would he want a person like that to plan a major event in his sister’s life? His overall assessment of MC may not be correct because he just met her, but first impressions are everything and she blew hers. The secondhand embarrassment I felt from just reading it was terrible.

Ignoring all that though, I’m actually liking Save the Date so far. It seems like it’ll be a little cliche, but something about it also feels fresh. Not sure how to feel about the first person narration yet, but if Platinum and Bachelorette Party are any indication I’m gonna hate that aspect 🤦🏾‍♀️ But best believe I’m here for Justin’s character and will definitely be romancing his no lip-having ass if he can ignore the fact that MC is obviously drunk off dumb bitch juice 😂😂

In chapter 1, I gained 19 points with Justin and lost 3 and also can totally see the rom com plot line a million miles away. I like Justin, I am happy to romance him, but I feel bad for people who don’t, because that is the direction the story is going to go.

justin mercado. a dick? sure. but justified? yes. i can’t believe everyone is already about to beat him up because realistically, he had every right to do what he did. 

he met a girl at his best friend’s wedding, either kissing her at the end of the night, flirting with her throughout or just merely being intrigued by her. but when he comes into work the next day, the first impression he has of said girl in a professional environment is either her flipping a table or stuffing bread into a celiac’s mouth.

never mind the fact that he doesn’t know the full story, he just saw his employee act irrationally and purely out of impulse. and honestly, firing her was a great decision. she doesn’t deserve to work at his company if she’s acting like that. she’s been belittled for three years and the one time she can’t hold her tongue is in front of her ceo?

and everyone that is mad at him wanting to be in his own sister’s wedding? his sister, his family has struck a deal with the very employee he saw go beserk. the very employee he fired. being wary of mc and warning his sister is completely okay after what he saw. in his eyes, if she acted unprofessional there how is that any different from a wedding?

that being said, i don’t agree with him turning the whole wedding planner thing into a competition. that was uncalled for. but if i was in justin’s shoes, i don’t think i’d change very much. 

this fandom just can’t handle the idea of an li not liking mc right off the bat. especially after asking to be rejected by someone for once. well here go you. served to you on a silver platter and yet you deny it.

it’s very interesting how ethan ramsey, in chapter one of open heart, verbally brutalizes mc and threatens their career and psychologically terrorizes them for the vast majority of the book (especially if you don’t buy his diamond scenes…….. culminating in a scene where he physically forces himself on your mc), but justin is the worst li we’ve ever met, apparently.

Simon is honestly an absolute ray of sunshine. i mean, helping the mc arrange that entire bridal shower from day 1 until everything was smoothed out? check. being supportive and cheerful of the results? check. being optimistic that things will be successful coz the mc worked hard for it? check. just being a general good guy who will drop everything down to help? ultimate check. a man after my own heart!
