a sneak peak at my essay... i just finished summarizing all the evidence from the melancholy novel. so... 1/11 novels down... based on novel length if i write the same amount of words per novel (including the fact that surprise was released as two separate novels) i would be getting around... 31.2k words.

reincarnation . . . what a strange thing to bring up . strange enough for itsuki to want to explore the issue further . it wasn’t as if it was unusual for strange phenomena to show up around haruhi suzumiya , the fact that haruhi has acquainted herself with another strange individual wouldn’t be much of a stretch at all .
after school , itsuki trails reiner for a little while --- until they reach the bottom of the hill north high was built upon . he would rather not be spotted asking reiner to have a private conversation --- not by any of the brigade members at least . and , when the time is right , he catches up to the blonde , smile on his face and tone as casual as can be .
‶ sorry to bother you , but i was wanting to talk to you about something if you’d care to indulge me . --- --- --- it’s about what you brought up earlier today . ″

Irrelevant. Those who need to know what she’s talking about know what she’s talking about. And perhaps it will serve as a warning to Fujiwara.
“And for your consolation,” She looks at him. She knows ‘Fujiwara’ is not his name, and yet she does not think of him as ‘Asahina’, despite reasonable certainty based on collected data that that is his real last name. Strange. “There is no need to mourn your inability to return home. Twenty-six year old Mikuru Asahina has just entered this timeplane. You’ll be there shortly.”
Finally, she looks to Haruhi. “Do you require any further statements from him? It is unlikely that you will see him again, given that his current sentence is equivalent to the current timeplane’s Life Without Possibility Of Parole.”
He’ll break out, of course, but he’ll die soon after, so that part can be omitted.
HARUHI BLINKS. Eyes wide, looking paler than before. There’s a lag in responsiveness when Yuki turns and asks her a question. “I don’t think he’s lying.” She says quietly. Now or then. That’s right…. Koizumi was holding her; she remembers gripping onto his arms, and…how scared she was watching him struggle in Yuki’s grip and he said—
because i NEED YOUR HELP ! ! !
It probably wouldn’t have mattered if his story hadn’t lined up with her memories. She just felt it in her gut. He was telling the truth.
❝ But — ! ” She looks back at Yuki, her statement finally sinking in. She wouldn’t see him again ?? Of course, there were a MILLION things to say !! About Koizumi’s ‘coincidental’ appearances, about Yuki’s superhuman powers; how is it that you don’t have enough time with the time traveler !?
Haruhi shakes her head, thoughts cascading together. “Wait — I just — I just don’t get it !” Her arm sweeps out, “You knew about Yuki, and Koizumi, and Mikuru ! You knew ! If you needed help so bad, fixing time—or somethin’, then why didn’t you just go to them ?! ❞
why me ?
the time traveler laughs bitterly at yuki’s words . of course , he wouldn’t expect someone like her to understand . not like he was going to justify himself to her . he’s tried dealing with the data integration thought entity in the past . while their interface’s capacity for conversation was good , that was about all he could say about them . the heavenly canopy dominion was far easier for him to get to do what he wanted . ‶ shut up . ″ he mumbles , not much force behind it . he wasn’t going to yell at her for such trivial matters . not when there were other things to focus on . --- --- --- even if what she was saying was accurate , it just meant he didn’t have anything to lose .
as the conversation continues itsuki finds himself growing more and more tense . he looks to haruhi , listens to her words --- why her ? it was obvious to him , but she shouldn’t know . this fujiwara certainly couldn’t reveal anything critical , could he ? he knows mikuru has a filter , but he is unsure how someone like him is restricted . surely if he was working under the same restrictions he wouldn’t have even been allowed to do this in the first place .
it was clear he worked for different people , with different regulations . ones that his organization haven’t negotiated much with --- at least , not at this point in time .
‶ like the two of them could or would help me . the esper there hates time travelers --- and the interface is here for a specific task , i’m sure the state of the future doesn’t concern her . ″ he wonders how far he can take this ; before his speech is restricted . while he would love to drop everything here , he’s not sure if he’d be allowed to . would it even be worth it ?
‶ if you don’t even have a clue , it’s clear that your friends here are still hiding things from you . i would love to give away freebies for you , tell you classified information --- ″ guess not --- ‶ but being from the future i have to be careful about what i say and to whom . it’s annoying enough those two are in the room , but they could probably assist me in this matter . they’re you’re friends , right ? well , i’m sure they tell you that , and you’d like to believe it . perhaps you are close , i honestly do not give a damn about specifics of your relationship . but even so , they didn’t come into contact with you for the intention of being friends . ″
‶ do you believe these people , the ones with such extraordinary backgrounds , joined your little brigade and kept secrets from you without reason ? or for whatever petty reason they told you . i’m surprised you know enough now for them to even let you have this conversation . --- the alien here to observe you , the esper that worships you . . . ask them about it . they have less verbal restrictions than i do in the moment , irritating as that may be . ″
itsuki’s smile becomes strained . this is what he was afraid of --- if he steps in now it’s suspicious , if he doesn’t then haruhi might begin to turn on the two of them again . he trusts haruhi to believe in their friendship , but fujiwara also wasn’t lying . that was the real issue . . .
‶ i’m afraid i don’t know what you’re talking about . ″
‶ . . . hahahahaha --- ″ the time traveler cackles , as if itsuki had uttered the funniest joke he’s heard in a while . ‶ like i have any damn reason to like right now ! ! ! ″
