love how when i get a new interest, iā€™m like ā€œoh god itā€™s happening againā€ and iā€™m stuck like that for about a week until everything explodes and any interest iā€™ve had prior is completely dwarfed for an unknown amount of time

Israel is setting up a complex system of checkpoints that will prevent men of ā€œmilitary ageā€ from fleeing Rafah in preparation for its offensive on the southern Gaza border city, a senior western official familiar with Israelā€™s plans has told Middle East Eye on condition of anonymity. The checkpoints are designed to allow some women and children to leave Rafah ahead of an expected Israeli offensive, but unarmed, civilian Palestinian men will likely be separated from their families and remain trapped in Rafah during an expected Israeli assault. The previously unreported disclosure of Israelā€™s construction of a ring of checkpoints around Rafah underscores how Israel is pushing ahead with plans to attack the city where over one million displaced Palestinians are sheltering in tents and makeshift camps. The creation of gender-based checkpoints around Rafah would put a spotlight back on Israelā€™s practice of stripping and forcibly detaining male Palestinian men and children, as it faces rising scrutiny in the West of its conduct in the war. The rounding up of Palestinian males in Gaza and photographing them stripped to their underwear drew condemnation in December, with the US calling the images ā€œdeeply disturbingā€. Relatives of many of the men photographed recognised them and said they had nothing to do with Hamas. Israel's military was later accused of staging footage of men surrounding weapons. ā€œIsrael considers every male a Hamas fighter until proven otherwise,ā€ Abbas Dahouk, a former senior military advisor at the State Department and military attache in the Middle East told Middle East Eye. ā€œItā€™s not a sound move. Cordoning Rafah is a daunting task and good luck separating fathers and sons from their families.ā€

TIL that there's an '80s movie where they portrayed Smilodon by sticking actual fake teeth onto actual live lions.

-Recording begins-
Spider-Man: Hi folks! Iā€™d like to give a PSA to my usual villains, and anyone else with ideas for the next two months.
Spider-Man: *holds up a brick sized lump of metal* See this? Itā€™s titanium!
Spider-Man: *starts flattening it out and shaping it*
Spider-Man: See, we all know that Iā€™m crazy strong, but I never wanna really hurt anybody right? Right. While that hasnā€™t changed, something very important does right around this time of year.
Spider-Man: *pulls off a glove and pulls a chunk into a long stem with his nails carving lines for added texture*
Spider-Man: See, this is what we like to call exam season. Anybody who knows anything about college can tell you that it drives people up the wall, and I already climb mine when Iā€™m antsy.
Spider-Man: *starts winding the thin sheet around the stem, delicately crimping petals in place*
Spider-Man: I do wanna be clear that this isnā€™t a threat, okay? Iā€™m still not interested in crossing the line, which brings me to my point.
Spider-Man: *throws the titanium rose at the brick wall behind him, stem first, and embeds it all the way through*
Spider-Man: /That/ was restrained because I could focus enough to have full control. If Iā€™m extremely tired or otherwise distracted, thereā€™s just as much risk of me slipping up as someone operating heavy machinery. Iā€™m probably not going to remember what sleep is for two whole months, so remember!
Spider-Man: *pulls out a brick and snaps it like a cookie*
Peter fucking Parker: Donā€™t.
