Good morning future Sherlockians!
For our first assignment, we are going to investigate three visual representations of Sherlock Holmes. Before turning to the page, these are three renditions of Sherlock Holmes and his buddy Watson done over the past thirty years. From these artists’ perspectives, we can begin to understand his character.
Sherlock Holmes famously advised that you see, but you do not observe. Watch these clips closely, and let the images and gestures sink in.

How is Holmes represented?
How is Watson represented?
What is their relationship like?
How does this version compare to the other two? Based on the time, setting, and actors why do you think it was done this way? Why do you think it is a superior rendition?
