Is Canada’s tap water safe? Thousands of test results show high lead levels across the country. Hundreds of thousands of Canadians could be drinking water with dangerous lead levels.

Many cities said that some of the hundreds of thousands of lead pipes underground would likely not be replaced for decades. In addition, the cities also said it was difficult to co-ordinate replacements since they would require property owners to pay for changing lead pipes on the private side of the property line.

In addition, the journalists working on this investigation interviewed nearly 1,000 people and filed more than 700 requests through freedom-of-information legislation to get access to the thousands of municipal water sample test results, which were never previously posted publicly. These add up to a collection of about 79,000 results since 2004.

Here are the new stickers that Dole is putting on their bananas.

Celebrate 125 years of demolishing acres upon acres of untouched virgin rainforest to grow bananas. Celebrate the harsh pesticides and fungicides that are used so heavily the waterways and land surrounding a banana plantation is contaminated for miles, and the people working the plantation have the nickname “parrots” because their skin tone has a bluish hue from the chemicals, not to mention the health effects of said chemicals that Dole and DOW tried to keep quiet about (cancer, kidney disease, sterility, deformities, blindness, to name a few).

Celebrate 125 years of horrific slave labor (why do you think an imported tropical fruit remains 49¢ a pound regardless of season or inflation?), countless human rights violations, and taking over and destroying entire countries with bloody wars fought to suppress labor rights and establish company control over governments.

Dole and Chiquita destroyed and continue to destroy millions of lives to this day. This campaign is an absolute slap in the face to humanity.

Epistemicide can be broadly defined as the destruction of knowledge systems and the knowledge that they generate. The Latin American sociologist Ramón Grosfoguel explains how epistemicide played a crucial role in Europe's colonization of the rest of the world, including the settler colonization of the Americas. It granted European philosophy an “epistemic privilege,” allowing it to become the “new foundation of knowledge in the modern/colonial world.”

In other words, it created a world in which only knowledge produced by European colonists and settlers was deemed legitimate, while colonized societies were compelled to construct new systems from scratch — often mirroring those of their colonizers — because their own systems had been destroyed. As a result, the structural conditions of knowledge production that facilitated the mechanisms of their colonialization also imposed constraints on their liberation.
