She missed but it wasn’t a wasted effort. Her tails swept at his legs to throw him off balance. Their reach was great and so was their strength. Ace whipped around to face him once more. She grit her teeth as the fire spread up her blades and to her elbows, engulfing her arms.
Tumblr media
“You’ll die like a stray and then your slut mistress is next” She lunged at him, not caring for any attacks he may spring. She could heal with little issue. Given she was having a good day. She couldn’t think of any way he could slow her down. But then again, she knew much less about him than he probably knew about her.
She was getting on his nerves. But one good thing was her fire was giving him plenty of shadows to utilize. A few runes on his blade started to glow then absorb the shadows until the blade dripped with a necrotic magic.
Tumblr media
The stray comment struck something vile in his blood, though. “Okay, since you love talking just as much she does, give me a good reason not to kill you.”

Truly, this contract had to be one of the most needlessly difficult contracts he’s ever had. He was a blind man, how could he keep missing?! Was this man blessed? Did he actually know he was there? This nonsense wore Dušan’s patience thin.
Tumblr media
Instead of trying to be subtle and silent, the assassin leapt in front of him. One of his hands reached for Obi’s shirt collar. He was going to get rid of this man one way or another.
He had sensed the stalker he had for a couple clicks, whoever they were, they were especially patient. Walking through he feigned ignorance to their presence. However the breathing was getting heavier from his hunter, impatience was rising. Obi acted as if he were just grabbing flowers to avoid a strike at him, then came back up and kept walking. No one blind could be this lucky could they? Humming quietly as he kept his step, knowing his assassin would close in eventually, or get frustrated with Obi’s perpetual dodging.

“Money’s more important than lives? So you’re one of those. You’re the perfect little guard dog for her aren’t you?” Ace rushes at him, her knives ready to sink in to his flesh.
“She’s a greedy, cheating gold-digging bitch. And her little affair is costing people their lives” She swiped at his throat and stomach. Her cloak was thrown off to reveal her ears and horns. She wasn’t human. Her slit eyes glowed gold with a determination.
Dušan leapt to the side, barely out of range of her blades. She was quick. More than he anticipated. And she was too chatty for his tastes. If she was going to kill him, he’d rather her do so without so many words.
Her appearance without her cloak caused a bit of surprise. But it did explain a few things about her. She must’ve had a draconic ancestry of sorts. Doesn’t make his situation any better though.

He growled, and put even more space between them, “I do what I have to in order to survive...”

It was difficult to hold on to him with him fighting her. So she had no choice but to let go. Ace jumped back a little. Putting space between her and the guard. Her blades ignited with a blue fire and she took a defensive stance. The cuts left by his blade healed as quickly as they appeared.
Tumblr media
“She must be paying you good, dog. You really don’t know her do you?” Ace calls out to her opponent. No matter. Let him protect her. She can use him as a warning to her. “I’ll dump you at your master’s feet. And then I’ll dump her at the peoples’“ Ace pointed a flaming knife towards him. Her tails swiped back and forth with anticipation.
He flipped backwards onto his feet. Then lowered himself to the ground, taking a defensive stance of his own. Seeing the blue flame on her blades twisted a knot into his stomach. Along with the visibly rapid healing of her wounds. He studied her. Now he could see why he wasn’t hired to kill her, after marking her up as a formidable foe with annoying abilities.

“I need money. I don’t bother getting to know my contracts.”

Ace watched from afar as her target had left the protection of her giant building. But there was something new. Someone beside her. An unfamiliar pawn. Seems she’s gone and gotten herself a new toy. Her tails twitched and flicked as she debated her next move. She didn’t know the abilities of this newcomer. She figured he must be there to protect her. She didn’t seem to be treating him as a friend.
It was easy to keep track of them while staying out of sight. That woman was loud. She must like hearing the sound of her own voice. Ace kept herself cloaked, though her tails stuck out. As they usually do.
Tumblr media
“I suppose I’ll take care of the guard dog first,” she said to herself. She readied her knives and got in position to pounce. Ace moved to blindside him, using her powerful legs to launch herself at him. Her arms locked around his torso, and with another jump, she carried him out of range of his master.
The downpour prevented his ears from picking up her movements. Even on edge, even expecting something like this, no sound other than the cacophonous rain berated his hearing. Before he could react, Dušan’s feet left the ground and he was whisked away.
Tumblr media
“You... must be the ‘problem’.” Drawing his blade, he made quick swipes to pry her arms off him. He kicked up his feet and started writhing in the most inconvenient way. Pairing the two together. Swipe, kick, swipe, kick. Thrashing violently.

The rain came down in heavy sheets. He pulled his soaked hood down to protect his eyes as he moved forward. Another downtrodden day of this wet nonsense that he was forced to go out into. Harsh whispers about his employer dissipated within the storm. Couldn’t she just wait until the rain passed before she left the estate? Must she drag him around in the mud of the street? Just as the rain seeped into his cloak, regret seeped into his soul. But money was money, and he was in dire need of it.
Unfortunately, the noblewoman wasn’t as quiet.
“Can’t you just hit her with your knife?” She pipped up from under her lavish umbrella carried by one of her servants. One he wasn’t permitted to be under, nor to have one of his own apparently. “I don’t know why my husband hired an assassin as a personal guard...”
Tumblr media
“I believe the technical term is ‘stab’.” Dušan glared at her. “And my contract cannot be changed once it’s made. Your husband feels that having a weapon like me will scare off any undesirable people. I’m hired to protect you on your travels within the city until this problem of yours is gone.”

A cloak can garner attention in the right circumstances, however at a nobleman or woman's side? Why, a well kept appearance is nothing new. Although the nature of such domestic criminals are questionable. Are they there for safety? Or perhaps to retaliate in upper class feuds in whatever manner their employers wish? Of course none would have a common assassin out by their side. That is simply too foolish. To hide a weapon in plain sight... who would have the mind to do such a thing?
