I’m so, so close to finally catching up on Worlds Beyond Number but I just finished episode 22 and I have to spill my guts somewhere besides to friends!

I love Suvi. The Wizard Skye has my whole heart, babes, but really so does any character Aabria plays. I also feel really bad for Suvi! Like she can for sure come across as uptight and stiffly following the rules sometimes but that’s going to be a given! She was literally raised, and you could even say bred, to be a soldier. Besides that brief time in the cottage in the Children’s Adventure, it’s literal all she’s known. And every damn time she gets a direct order, from the Sword of the Citadel but also, more importantly, the woman who raised her, she’s right, her friends never listen and always run off. They have different agendas and attach different levels of importance to things than she does, especially orders and especially the citadel considering how not actually great it is Ame or Eursulon beyond surface level fun, but it does pan out that she’s always the one left behind AND it always seems like they’ve disappeared together and left her on her own.

Aabria and that ‘bring them to me’ were so valid. It’s like, this is not Port Talon. I have power and respect here and I demand some of it from my friends, not just out of pigheadedness or a sense of superiority, but worry! Love! For her friends and for the citadel that had just been plunged back into war. And with that massive fire that’s now happened, who knows how much that will affect the citadel and the war effort? At the very least it’s a slap in the face for the citadel’s hospitality and especially so to Suvi because she’s not asking Ame to stay and run out her clock and lose her position. She’s just asking for a little bit of time, which is perfectly valid of her.

And I dunno all the intricacies of this world and race but to me, a Black woman, the fact that she’s doing so as a Black woman, trying to show her love and care and be loyal to everyone she cares for and just trying to be a good person in the best way she knows how, by being a good soldier, and constantly getting ignored or brushed or even (inadvertently, thanks to scary witch powers) threatened just really hits so hard. Oof.

@quiddie always makes appropriately juicy narrative choices that make me gasp but are also always true to her character, with Suvi and with Laerryn, and this is why I’m obsessed with her. Thanks for coming to my ted talk.
