Doing undercover surveillance is usually very fun for me. And at first I was annoyed that I got paired with Reid. But when they instructed us to act like a couple I figured I could have even more fun.

I don’t like him. He doesn’t like me. Frankly I’d rather be paired with literally anyone else. But I do enjoy getting on his nerves, I like making him mad. Because when he gets genuinely upset and his little vein pops out, I know I’ve beat him. Sure he gets to me too sometimes but I like a good challenge.

“Would you stop that?” Spencer hissed through gritted teeth at me; referring to me holding onto his arm and snuggling up on him.

“We’re supposed to be a convincing couple, remember?” I say with a face that doesn’t match my tone. We smile at each other lovingly while we bicker. We’re sitting at a bench in a park. We’re surrounded by kids playing and people socializing; unaware of what we’re doing. Ignorance really is bliss.

He laughs and pats my knee, “Let’s pretend we’re a couple that hates PDA then”

“Nice try”

I stand up and extend my hand to him. “Come on, let’s move”

He looks at my hand before begrudgingly taking it and standing up. I have to admit his hand does feel really nice in mine. It feels soft and warm.

We walk hand in hand, fingers interlocked, I sway our hands back and forth. Spencer keeps his other hand in his coat pocket, I use mine to hold onto his arm.

“You know I can’t really imagine you in a relationship. What would Dr. Spencer Reid be like as a boyfriend?” I ask.

No response.

“That wasn’t a rhetorical question”

“Oh,” he looks down at his feet when we walk, and he scrunches up his face like he does when he’s nervous. “Is it that impossible to imagine someone would date me?

I grunt accompanied by an eye roll, “I never said that. It’s just a question. Humor me, darling”

I felt his eyes snap to me at the nickname but I kept looking forward. “Well if you were my real girlfriend—which would never happen in a million years—I’d probably take you to plays, art shows, jazz clubs—”

“Jazz clubs?” I interject.

“Yeah, what about it?” He said defensively.

“I dunno I just never painted you as a jazz guy”

He chuckled. Like a real chuckle. I reserved the comment so not to ruin the moment.

“Well y/n as you can see you don’t know me as well as you think you do”

I leaned my head on his shoulder, to keep up with our cover of course. He moved his arm over my shoulder; with this movement his fingers grazed my neck slightly which sent shivers down my spine.

“Tell me more about boyfriend Reid. Would you read to me?”

“Actually I would”

“Ooh, sounds romantic. Would you whisper the words into my ear all seductively?” I leaned into his ear to act out what I was describing.

“Uhh, heh” he became flustered. “Yeah I guess I would do that if I wanted to set the mood”

“Mmmm okay okay”

“Are you—” he stopped walking which ultimately made me stop.

“What?”

“Are you patronizing me?” He asked, slightly raising his voice.

I accidentally let out a chuckle, “What? No!”

He let go of my hand. “You think this is funny” he didn’t ask, he stated.

“I don’t! However I do think it’s pretty ridiculous how quick you are to pick a fight with me” I raised my voice now and I heard Hotch in my ear warning us to cool down; for a moment I had forgotten he was listening.

“You’re drawing too much attention to yourselves” Hotch warned which made us start arguing in hushed tones instead.

“I’m not picking a fight. You just have this obsessive need to get on my nerves. Meanwhile I thought we were having a normal conversation” he leaned down slightly to face me given our height difference.

“We were having a normal conversation until you—”

“Suspect is 10 feet away from you and approaching, you can’t be seen by him” Hotch interrupted but too late since by the time we had processed what he said the suspect was a few feet away.

We had to act fast. I could see Spencer’s gears turning until he landed on an idea, and his eyes landed on me. He muttered, “I’m sorry about this” and before I could ask what he meant he was pulling me in by my waist and placing his lips on mine.

Spencer was kissing me. I was kissing him back. That’s when I realized what he was doing. People have a tendency to look away from PDA, especially if it’s passionate, it makes people uncomfortable.

And so we kissed passionately, our lips never separating until we could see through hooded eyes the suspect had averted his gaze and kept walking. His hands held onto my waist firmly and my arms were holding onto his neck; with a hand in his hair. The hand wasn’t necessary but it found its way in there.

Once we could see he was far enough we slowly pulled away. That’s when it hit us. What the fuck just happened?

“Well, that worked I guess” we could hear Hotch in our ears, also confused by what just happened. I was actually feeling a bit lightheaded, it was some kiss. And you could see that even from far away surveillance cameras.

We stared at each other, shocked. It was evident that in that very second we realized two things.

A) we kissed, and b) we liked it.
