[caption id="attachment_5feaed86da0ca" align="aligncenter" width="1100" caption=""][/caption]
The 2020-21 season QNB Stars League reached precisely the halfway mark with the conclusion of Week 11 action on 27th and 28th December, 2020. As many as 17 goals were scored. There was a high-scoring match and two games ended in draws. All teams, except Al Sailiya and Al Khor, scored goals.
Ahead of the start of second leg with Week 12 fixtures on 2nd and 3rd January, 2021, Al Sadd continued to top the table with 29 points despite being held to a 1-1 draw by high-flying Qatar SC. The result, after a keenly-fought encounter between two in-form teams, helped The Kings storm into the top-four, from fifth place, with 19 points.
Reigning champions Al Duhail improved from fourth to third place with 21 points following their 5-3 victory over Al Ahli in a high-scoring thriller. It was The Red Knights’ seventh victory and it also helped them close the gap with leaders Al Sadd from 10 points to eight.
Qatar SC and Al Ahli are tied on 19 points, but the former were placed fourth on better goal difference (+8 compared to Al Ahli’s -5). The Brigadiers thus slipped from third to fifth place.
Al Gharafa (22 points) kept their second place intact even though they were held 1-1 by Umm Salal, who continued their good performance. The Orange Fortress, however, remained 10th in the table with 10 points.
Al Rayyan remained in sixth spot with 16 points even after defeating Al Khor 1-0. It was The Lions’ fourth victory, whereas The Knights crashed to their sixth loss, but remained 11th with seven points.
Al Arabi got back to winning ways following their 1-0 win over Al Sailiya, their third overall. The Dream Team, despite the victory, stood in ninth position with 12 points, while The Peregrines slipped from seventh to eighth place with 12 points.
Both Al Sailiya and Al Arabi have the same number of points, but the former were placed above on better goal difference (-6 as against the latter’s -7).
Al Wakrah improved from eighth to seventh rank with 13 points as they beat Al Kharaitiyat 2-1 to register their fourth victory. The Thunders remained the basement side with six points after suffering their ninth defeat, the most by any team.

QNB Stars League Week 11 – Qatar SC 1 Al Sadd 1
[caption id="attachment_5fea370126078" align="aligncenter" width="1100" caption=""][/caption]
Qatar SC and Al Sadd played out a pulsating 1-1 draw in Week 11 of the 2020-21 season QNB Stars League at the Qatar SC Stadium on Monday.
Consistent scorer Anthony Okpotu put Qatar SC ahead in the 31st minute and Santo Cazorla drew parity for Al Sadd in the 42nd minute with a penalty goal.
Al Sadd raised their points tally to 29 and Qatar SC to 19 points.
Al Sadd thus extended their unbeaten streak, the only team to do so, as the 12-club tournament reached precisely the halfway stage.
Both teams went into the match in great form, having won their last few matches in succession. Qatar SC had completed their fifth consecutive victory, whereas Al Sadd were fresh from their Qatar Clasico victory over Al Rayyan.
Al Sadd attacked from the beginning, with the likes of Baghdad Bounedjah, Nam Tae-Hee and Abdelkarim Hassan raiding the rival citadel time and again, giving Qatar SC goalkeeper Jassim Al Hail a harrowing time.
However, it was Qatar SC who took the lead against the run of play when Okpotu took advantage of a defensive mistake committed by Tareq Salman.
Okpotu tested goalkeeper Meshaal Barsham again in the 37th minute.
Al Sadd equalised when Cazorla converted a penalty awarded after Qatar SC’s Ali Karimi brought down Bounedjah.
Al Sadd had much more of the ball, but the teams took the half-time break with a 1-1 scoreline.
Qatar SC’s substitute Eisa Ahmed had a chance to give his side the lead a second time, but his shot was blocked by the goalkeeper in the 80th minute.
Soon, Bounedjah shot wide of the target and Cazorla too hit wide, in the 90th minute, as the deadlock continued.

Al Wakrah beat Al Kharaitiyat 2-1 in Week 11 of the 2020-21 season QNB Stars League at the Al Duhail Stadium on Monday.
Ousmane Coulibaly (43rd minute) and Jassim Ali Al Hashimi (90th minute) scored the goals for Al Wakrah as The Blue Wave now have 13 points.
Al Kharaitiyat’s only goal was scored by Mahmoud Saad in the 21st minute. The Thunders stood on six points.
In the third minute, Al Wakrah’s Cristian Ceballos curled in a long-range free-kick. Lucas Mendes jumped high to head the ball from close range, but missed the flight of the ball which was parried away by diving keeper Shehab Ellethy.
In the seventh minute, Ceballos charged ahead on the right flank, but slipped in a cross for Omar Ali stationed inside the box. Despite having time and space, Omar fired wayward with his right-footed drive.
Six minutes later, Ceballos, this time on the right flank of Al Kharaitiyat goal, slipped in a cross for Ahmed Moein, who drilled a left-footed shot that was pouched by Ellethy.
A few minutes later, Al Kharaitiyat opened the scoring. Abdelhalim curled in a long-range free-kick in the 22nd minute. The ball sailed above two players who wanted to head the ball into the net. None of the attempts were successful as the ball swung and dipped late with Al Wakrah keeper Mohamed Ibrahim in no position to stop the ball that zipped past his right and into the net.
Al Wakrah skipper Mohamed Benyettou, in the 28th minute, swivelled on his feet and attempted a right-footed shot into the Al Kharaitiyat goal, but he went wayward with his direction as the ball sailed away above the crossbar. Two minutes later, Omar jumped high on a long cross but his snap-header from close range also went wayward.
In the 33rd minute, Evans Mensah – running down the flank – clipped in a cross which was expertly deflected by Mohammed Osman. The fast-paced deflection was instinctively blocked by Al Wakrah keeper’s foot.
In the 43rd minute, team effort brought the equaliser for Al Wakrah. Murad Naji Hussein clipped on a long cross for Omar inside the Al Kharaitiyat box. Omar headed a loopy cross for Coulibaly, who lunged forward and tapped the ball into the net from close range.
In the 52nd minute, Benyettou was slightly off the mark with his header of a corner kick. In the 56th minute, Coulibaly lunged forward but his shot off a long-range free kick hit the Al Kharaitiyat goalpost.
In the 62nd minute, Mohammed Osman after a short dribble also attempted a long-range drive, but the shot was parried by Al Wakrah keeper. Two minutes later, Rachid Tiberkanine managed a hurriedly taken low snap-header that was caught by Al Wakrah keeper. In the 75th minute, Benyettou went long-range, but his powerful shot could not beat the keeper.
In the 90th minute, Benyettou found Al Hashimi with a neat cross from outside the Al Kharaitiyat box. Al Hashimi deflected the ball from close range to beat the forward lunge of Al Kharaitiyat goalkeeper.

Al Gharafa drew 1-1 with Umm Salal in Week 11 of the 2020-21 season QNB Stars League at the Al Duhail Stadium on Monday.
Sofiane Hanni opened the scoring for Al Gharafa by converting a penalty in the 12th minute, while Kayke Rodrigues equalised for Umm Salal in the next minute of the hard-fought match.
Al Gharafa now have 22 points and Umm Salal 10 points.
Al Gharafa showed intent early on attacking Umm Salal from the first minute. The former champions even won a corner kick in the first 40 seconds.
Al Gharafa continued with an attacking game and Jonathan Kodjia broke into the Umm Salal box in the sixth minute. Kodjia, who dominated throughout the match, fired a bullet from close range, but his shot was blocked by keeper Baba Malick. Kodjia managed a repeat attack in the ninth minute and this time his shot went to the left of keeper Malick.
Al Gharafa opened the scoring off a penalty. Ahmed Alaaeldin charged towards the Umm Salal box despite being under pressure from Aymen Abdennour. Just as he entered the box, Umm Salal keeper Malick stepped out and produced a sliding tackle that brought down Ahmed Alaaeldin.
The referee pointed to the spot and Hanni converted the penalty.
Pat came Umm Salal’s reply. Adel Alawi clipped in a neat cross for Rodrigues who arrived with perfect timing to deflect the ball on the volley from close range as Umm Salal fans celebrated the equaliser.
Al Gharaafa’s Homam Elamin, after sneaking into the Umm Salal box from the far right, unleashed a shot that was saved by keeper Malick in the 22nd minute.
In the 28th minute, on a long cross from Yousef Muftah, Kodjia volleyed towards the Umm Salal net in spectacular fashion, jumping high and then firing a powerful shot that was blocked by keeper Malick.
In the 49th minute, Al Gharafa skipper Othman Al Yahri curled in a beautiful shot a few yards away from the Umm Salal box, but keeper Malick dived to his right to collect the ball. Al Gharafa’s star striker Kodjia – in an attempt to break the deadlock – went long-range on a powerful shot that sailed past the goalpost to the left of keeper Malick in the 65th minute.
Eight minutes later, Umm Salal’s Abdennour Belhocini produced a curling shot off a free-kick. The ball sailed above the wall and keeper Yousef Hassan palmed the shot over the crossbar.

On the resultant free-kick, Homam curled in a long-range shot that got a thin deflection from Kodjia, who jumped high inside the Umm Salal box. The deflection slipped past the goalpost to the left of keeper Malick.

QNB Stars League Week 11 – Al Khor 0 Al Rayyan 1
[caption id="attachment_5fe8edb11e42c" align="aligncenter" width="1100" caption=""][/caption]
Al Rayyan defeated Al Khor 1-0 in Week 11 of the 2020-21 season QNB Stars League at the Al Khor Stadium on Sunday.
Johan Boli scored in the 47th minute as Al Rayyan, with their fourth victory, raised their points tally to 16.
Both teams were coming off defeats, Al Khor losing 1-6 to reigning champions Al Duhail and Al Rayyan crashing to a 0-1 loss to leaders Al Sadd in the Qatar Clasico.
Al Rayyan, playing their second match under French coach Laurent Blanc, straightaway went into attacking mode. They greatly dominated ball possession and called the shots almost entirely in the first half, but could not be successful. The Lions even forced seven corner kicks as against Al Khor’s none.
Al Rayyan’s spearhead Boli, captain Yacine Brahimi, Abdulaziz Hatem and Dame Traore all made serious attempts at the Al Khor goal, but the stalemate remained at half-time.
At the other end, Leonardo De Souza sent his header straight to Al Rayyan goalkeeper Fahad Younis during the half.
Al Rayyan had a goal disallowed for offside in the third minute of stoppage time. Abdulaziz Hatem’s free-kick rebounded from Al Khor goalkeeper Baba Djibril, but Cameroonian Franck Kom found himself in an offside position.
Not long after resumption of play, Al Rayyan broke the deadlock through Boli, who was spot-on with his header off a cross from Khaled Muftah, with Brahimi setting the stage along the left flank.
Al Rayyan came close the next minute, but Abdulaziz Hatem could not find the target.
Al Khor, also under Frenchman Frederic Hantz, were desperate to hit back and Giannis Fetfatzidid shot wide in the 62nd minute.
Yuki Kobayashi’s long-range shot did not go goalwards as Al Khor rued their sixth defeat and stood on seven points.
Djibril, who had a good game overall but for the goal, denied Boli a second goal by thwarting him towards the close when the latter was in an advantageous position to score.

QNB Stars League Week 11 – Al Sailiya 0 Al Arabi 1
[caption id="attachment_5fe8edae610c8" align="aligncenter" width="1100" caption=""][/caption]
Al Arabi beat Al Sailiya 1-0 in Week 11 of the 2020-21 season QNB Stars League at the Al Ahli Stadium on Sunday.
Mehrdad Mohammadi scored the only goal of the match in the 43rd minute as Al Arabi took their tally to 12 points with their third victory.
Al Sailiya remained on 12 points after suffering their fifth loss.
In the third minute of the hard-fought clash, Al Arabi skipper Ahmed Fathy failed to control a powerful shot from the edge of the Al Sailiya box, but the ball sailed away to the left of the keeper, missing the goalpost narrowly.
In the 16th minute, Al Sailiya’s Mohammed Mudather unleashed a powerful shot from outside the box, but the ball caught a slight deflection as keeper Mahmoud Abunada ended the move with an easy collection.
Al Arabi’s Abdulaziz Al Ansari broke free of his marker and charged into the Al Sailiya box in the 26th minute. Close to a goalpost, Al Ansari tried to chip in a cross, but Al Sailiya’s Serigne Mbodji put in a sliding dive to block the move.
On the half-hour mark, Mudather fired a spectacular shot that narrowly missed the Al Arabi crossbar.
Three minutes on, Sebastian Soria slipped in a neat cross from the centre to Mehrdad. The Iranian anticipated the move well, picked up the angled cross, but once he entered the Al Sailiya box, he went wayward with his shot.
Al Arabi then scored through Mehrdad. After a short dribble near the edge of the Al Sailiya box, he clipped a cross towards Soria inside the box. After hoodwinking a defender, Soria returned the ball to Mehrdad, who charged ahead and then curled in a superb left-footed drive. The ball swung late before crashing into the net to the right of keeper Claude Amine.
In the 50th minute, Al Arabi skipper Ahmed Fathi delivered a cross from the edge of the box, but Al Ansari, in touching distance from the goalline, could not volley home with only the goalkeeper to beat.
Five minutes later, Al Arabi’s Mahdi Torabi fired a left-footed cross towards Soria inside the box, but the forward could not close the move as the ball sailed past the Al Sailiya goal.
In the 81st minute, Al Sailiya’s Ahmed Al Menhali was shown the red card following his second yellow of the match.

QNB Stars League Week 11 – Al Ahli 3 Al Duhail 5
[caption id="attachment_5fe8b56c6b480" align="aligncenter" width="1100" caption=""][/caption]
Al Duhail beat Al Ahli 5-3 in Week 11 of the 2020-21 season QNB Stars League at the Al Ahli Stadium on Sunday.
Eduardo Rodrigues (fifth minte), Ahmed Yasser (eighth minute), Paulo Edmilson (12th minute), Almoez Ali (56th minute) and Mohammed Muntari (90th minute) found the net as Al Duhail posted their seventh win of the season and moved on to 21 points.
Nasser Saleh Al Khalfan (second minute) and Nabil El Zhar (45+4 penalty and 67th minute) scored the goals for Al Ahli, who remained on 19 points after their fourth defeat.
Fans barely took their seats when Al Ahli opened the scoring through Al Khalfan, who was completely unmarked. After a couple of short passes among team-mates, El Zhar chipped in a cross for Al Khalfan. The young Al Ahli player jumped high in the air and easily sent the ball into the net with defenders Mohammed Moosa and Ismail Mohammed out of position to stop the move.
Three minutes later, Al Duhail found their equaliser through Rodrigues. Khaled Mohammed found Rodrigues with a short pass on the far right of the pitch. Rodrigues ran for some 10 yards with the ball and close to the edge of the box, he curled in a fast-paced flick that took keeper Yazan Naim by surprise.
Three minutes later, Rodrigues assisted with a perfectly-taken long-distance free-kick that sailed above the wall on the edge of the Al Ahli box before dipping a little away from the goalmouth. Yasser followed the dipping ball and deflected the ball on the volley with Yazan Naim out of position. The ball went into the net as Al Duhail celebrated their second goal inside three minutes.
It was 3-1 for Al Duhail as Edmilson, on a long loopy cross from the flank, managed to deflect the ball into the net a few yards away from the Al Ahli keeper who was rooted on the goalline.
In injury time of first half, Al Duhail’s Ali brought down Hazem Shehata inside the box. Referee Saoud Ali Al Athba sought VAR assistance and pointed to the spot and El Zhar easily converted the penalty kick.
Al Duhail jumped to a 4-2 cushion in the 56th minute when Almoez scored after a series of slick passion. Al Duhai’s Karim Boudiaf, stationed close to the Al Ahli box, slipped in a cross to Mohammed who was on the right of the pitch. From the flank, Mohammed curled in a cross for Almoez who clipped the ball into the net on the volley.
El Zhar added his second of the match on a loopy cross from half of the pitch by Mohammed Diame. Despite being chased by a defender, El Zhar calmly slotted the ball past the keeper.
Muntari, who replaced Almoez in the 75th minute, added one more from close range for Al Duhail to complete a 5-3 win.

We’re ready for strong test against Qatar SC: Al Sadd coach Xavi
[caption id="attachment_5fe8a2991ad39" align="aligncenter" width="1100" caption=""][/caption]
Al Sadd coach Xavi Hernandez spoke to the media ahead of their 2020-21 season QNB Stars League Week 11 match against Qatar SC.
“We are facing a team that appears at their best level in the league so far because they have won five consecutive matches with their new player Youcef Belaili, who made the difference and also with the presence of good overseas recruits such as Elmehdi Barrahma, Ali Karimi and (Anthony) Okpotu.
“Qatar SC players will have confidence and so are we, and I think it is possible to expect a match of top quality because they have a good level and performance, and the same holds true for Al Sadd.
“From my point of view, Qatar SC have a good coach in Younis Ali, who does a big job. He also made a good effort with Al Markhiya last season. He is a capable coach and was a good player as well, and he has a lot of experience, so getting these three points means a lot to us.
“We are now in first place and are doing well, and we are very happy, but things do not end here. We have to continue this way and now we are facing Qatar SC, one of the best teams in the tournament so far. We did not win anything and we have to continue at the same level. We must forget that and focus now on this game against Qatar SC. We are ready for it,” said Xavi.
Al Sadd player Pedro Miguel said, “Everyone at the Al Sadd club realises that it will be a difficult match, therefore it is important to enter the field with 100 per cent concentration to get the three points.
“Everyone is also aware that Qatar SC won their last five games. At the same time, we are also in good shape and won our last six games, so it will be a difficult game. We must play as we played in the past games to get the three points and continue to compete for the league title.”

We must be all focus in Umm Salal match: Al Gharafa coach Jokanovic
[caption id="attachment_5fe844ede732f" align="aligncenter" width="1100" caption=""][/caption]
Al Gharafa coach Slavisa Jokanovic spoke to the media ahead of their 2020-21 season QNB Stars League Week 11 match against Umm Salal.
“If we perform with the same focus and the players show the same spirit as in the previous matches, our chances of beating Umm Salal will be great. I admit that we are facing a team distinguished by good organisation, especially in defence. They will definitely rely on counter-attacks and that requires our team to show utmost concentration.
“We played the past matches more confidently and more coherently, and there began more harmony in our ranks, which created mutual trust among the players. Each of them is ready and able to cover the mistakes of a team-mate during the matches. The team has a great desire to achieve victories. Even when we were stung by deficit, the players believed in their ability to win and those are the most important steps we took in order to be stronger.
“The next match will witness the likely return of Ahmed Alaaeldin. Regarding Muaed Hassan, we may witness his return against Qatar SC (in Week 12). However, there will be a change on the goalkeeping front because Al Wakrah have informed us about the end of loan period of goalkeeper Salah Zakaria, so he has to return,” said Jokanovic.
Al Gharafa player Homam Elamin said, “The team will be fully prepared against Umm Salal. Our goal is three points, which requires fighting spirit considering the importance of this match so that the team remains in second place in the table by the end of first leg.
“Regarding our performance in the league’s first leg, we are on the right path and we look forward to continue at the same level until we finish the season in a top position.”

Facing Al Sadd tough task, but not daunting: Qatar SC coach Younis
[caption id="attachment_5fe844eb25df0" align="aligncenter" width="1100" caption=""][/caption]
Qatar SC coach Younis Ali spoke to the media ahead of their 2020-21 season QNB Stars League Week 11 match against Al Sadd.
“We have a tough task on hand because Al Sadd are league leaders and the best team in Asia, and includes many star players - Qataris and foreigners.
“This match will be difficult also because Al Sadd are a technically-stable team and have the ability to impose their style excellently over their competitors. They present themselves in the best possible way in every match, but the task is not impossible and we hope that we too will appear well. Our preparations went off well.
“The wonderful thing is that our team has become a well-oiled machine on the field, thanks to everyone's efforts. The level of the team now prompts us to pursue enthusiasm, drive and focus, as we have great ambition in the club to return to the position that Qatar SC deserve. We also have a strategy to provide opportunities for young players.
“There is no doubt that the recent victories have fueled our ambitions to provide our best in the next match, which is the most important and our focus is on it now.
“After the recent contracts, there is a state of satisfaction in the club and we aspire to be the best, continue with the same pace and overcome any pressure that may arise,” said Younis.
Qatar SC player Anthony Okpotu said, “We look with optimism to the future and look forward to presenting the performance expected of us in order to achieve more positive results.
“We must avoid making mistakes during the match and I look forward to always providing the best and helping my teammates get winning points, whether I score myself or not. The most important thing in the end is to win every match we play, especially since we now have an excellent team and we are on the right path and strive for the best.
“The QNB Stars League is distinguished by a high technical level. I take this opportunity to salute our fans and promise them to delight them by achieving the best results.”

I’m confident we’ll overcome difficulties: Al Kharaitiyat coach Yousef
[caption id="attachment_5fe83ad742442" align="aligncenter" width="1100" caption=""][/caption]
Al Kharaitiyat coach Yousef Adam spoke to the media ahead of their 2020-21 season QNB Stars League Week 11 match against Al Wakrah.
“The match will not be easy for both teams considering that both sides had lost matches in the league of late. The difficulty of this match lies in the fact that it comes at the end of first leg of the league. It is natural that each team seeks to win the last match in the first leg, so that the players can keep themselves in high spirit ahead of the start of second leg.
“We deal with league matches according to our capabilities. We trust a lot in ourselves and I am confident that we will overcome the difficult period the team is currently going through, especially since everyone is hungry for victories. If we beat Al Wakrah, it will not be a surprise. It is possible that a team in the bottom rung can win over the leaders.
“Lack of success and individual mistakes were among the most prominent reasons that led to our losing some matches. Individual mistakes happen with psychological matters. I deal with them well and the players forget about the loss and always think about the next match,” said Yousef.
Al Kharaitiyat player Abdulrahman Mohammed said, “The Al Wakrah match is considered as a big challenge for the players because Al Kharaitiyat are in dire need of full points in order to improve our position in the table.
“All players are well aware that they are required to provide all efforts with high focus, so the team can achieve victory. We are all determined to compensate by doubling our focus and efforts.”

We’re preparing hard for Al Gharafa match: Umm Salal coach Ben Askar
[caption id="attachment_5fe836d89df27" align="aligncenter" width="1100" caption=""][/caption]
Umm Salal coach Aziz Ben Askar spoke to the media ahead of their 2020-21 season QNB Stars League Week 11 match against Al Gharafa.
“Al Gharafa are strong competitors and one of the two best teams in the league this season, not just because they are ranked second in the table. We are preparing strongly of course because it will be a strong match. We work hard every day and this is most important to me.
“In our current situation, every point is important. We put up a strong performance in our drawn match against Al Sailiya, who are good opponents. For us, there is no easy match. All matches are difficult.
“We entered the current season with the aim of remaining in the QNB Stars League. As I said earlier, this season will not be easy as we are building a new team and therefore it is not easy to achieve positive results at the beginning.
“The point we scored against Al Sailiya gives us confidence and makes us believe in our project and the work we do every day.
“All points are important for us. We, as usual, focus on ourselves, and for us every match is a point and we need to work until the last minute of every match we play. I remind the players to focus throughout the game,” said Ben Askar.
Umm Salal goalkeeper Sami Habib said, “I am happy to play as the main goalkeeper of the team. I was nervous in the first match, but my team-mates stood by me and gave me more confidence.
“We played a good game against Al Sailiya and the two teams deserved the point. Now, we will face Al Gharafa and I expect the match to be strong, but we aspire to win the three points, especially since we have been achieving good results of late.”

We seek victory against Al Ahli: Al Duhail coach Lamouchi
[caption id="attachment_5fe7a552d9378" align="aligncenter" width="1100" caption=""][/caption]
Al Duhail coach Sabri Lamouchi spoke to the media ahead of their 2020-21 season QNB Stars League Week 11 match against Al Ahli.
“We won our last match against Al Khor, while Al Ahli are coming from a loss, and we have to rely on confidence and focus as the opponents will not present us any gift and we must achieve victory against them.
“Despite the importance of the match, it is not a six-point game, and our team has succeeded in winning two games in a row. Now, we are looking to continue achieving victories and good performance and working to improve the team’s ranking in the table.
“There has been a lot of talk about the records and players, but we are now focusing on the matches that await us and the records have not yet come. The team management knows what needs to be done and everything will happen in its time,” said Lamouchi.
Al Duhail goalkeeper Khalifa Abubaker said, “I have confidence in the team’s ability to achieve victory against Al Ahli. We have an important match and we must focus on implementing the plan that the technical staff will put in place in order to come out of the match with full points.
“We are able to win this match, and given the ranking table, we find that we are in a position that does not suit us, and we have to win and improve our position.”

We’re ready for Al Khor and we’ll strive to collect three points: Al Rayyan coach Blanc
[caption id="attachment_5fe72091931fd" align="aligncenter" width="1100" caption=""][/caption]
Al Rayyan coach Laurent Blanc spoke to the media ahead of their 2020-21 season QNB Stars League Week 11 match against Al Khor.
“Our preparation for the Al Khor match went off in the same way that we put together before we prepared for the last match against Al Sadd. So all matches are equally important. The players should know this, that all preparations must be very high and we have a lot to do in order to be able to perform well. The performance was good against Al Sadd.
“There is no doubt that I am sad about the loss against Al Sadd, which also saddened our players and our fans who love Al Rayyan club. That is why we are working to get wins starting with our next match against Al Khor. Wins will give the team new identity and personality. There is no doubt that last week we played against a side that is a good team and also has a good coach. Xavi is a coach who was able to make effective changes, but for Al Rayyan, we made only one change when the midfielders felt tired,” said Blanc.
Al Rayyan player Khaled Muftah said, “There are no easy matches in the league this season and all matches are difficult. We will try to win against Al Khor and return to the right path again. The last match against Al Sadd was difficult and we did not have enough time to work with the new coach. Right now there is a new phase for everyone at Al Rayyan team. There is no doubt that our goal is to win all the coming matches.”

Al Wakrah coach Marquez Lopez spoke to the media ahead of their 2020-21 season QNB Stars League Week 11 match against Al Kharaitiyat.
“The situation for the Al Wakrah team this year is more difficult than the previous year or previous years and everyone knows that. I lost two players and that is a situation that is not easy to fix. I know that we have lost several matches, but the important thing is to prepare the players to come back and aim for wins. I know that I have to put the players in a better condition. My players know that facing Al Kharaitiyat presents a new challenge which will be difficult.
“We worked after the last match against Al Gharafa. We do the same thing all the time. As I prepare the team for every match, I tell the players to focus and prepare better. Indeed, losing consecutively is not easy for any team, but we are working hard for the next match. Our goal is to return to the path of victories, we want to return to winning ways. We want to get three points,” said Marquez.
Al Wakrah player Mohammed Khaled Hassan said, “The backroom staff have worked with us throughout the few past days in order to mentally prepare us for the Al Kharaitiyat match. God willing, we will play for victory and collect the three points we want badly. The Al Kharaitiyat match will be our gateway to return to victories, we hope, and we promise our fans that we will do our best to achieve positive results during the upcoming matches. There is no doubt that I got experience from playing with the first team and I thank the coach for trusting my abilities.”

We aim for victory: Al Khor assistant coach Mustafa Al Sweheb
[caption id="attachment_5fe7208ca91d4" align="aligncenter" width="1100" caption=""][/caption]
Al Khor’s assistant coach Mustafa Al Sweheb spoke to media ahead of their QNB Stars League Week 11 match against Al Rayyan.
“Our goal is to get a positive result against Al Rayyan. We are not in a good position and we are not satisfied with our position. We could have been in the middle of the points table. We were hoping more after the arrival of new professionals that we would do well. There were some mistakes, but now we are working to correct them and the management is always working and supporting us. Surely there will be proper discussions with the players ahead of the next match.
“It will be a difficult match for both parties as Al Rayyan, one of the strong sides in Qatar, is coming from a loss and will be looking for the three points. We are also looking for the three points for sure, so it will be a strong match between the two teams,” said Mustafa.
Al Khor player Mohamed Al Sayed said, “We are not satisfied with our situation, but this is football. These things happen. We can, by ourselves, correct the current situation. The atmosphere is good in the team, but we need positive results in order to go on the right path. We have seven points and a few other teams in the points table are close to us. We have to make our full efforts in training and matches. We have many quality young players in the team who will have a great future.”
