I drew a venetian mask inspired picture of Emhyr - still trying to get his face right - then dropped it because I realized ...🤦‍♀️ The whole point of the venetian masks were anonymity 🤦‍♀️

Anyway while I draw I usually have a little story that I tell myself in my head. Here's the basic summary of the story:

Geralt attends a fancy Nilfgaardian event one night (after Ciri tells him about the masked parties that are often just a way of putting a refined veneer on sex parties), where he notices a beautiful masked figure he immediately recognises as Emhyr. No one else knows who it is. Only Geralt. He knows its Emhyr because, like the creep he is, he has been paying an absurd amount of attention to the way the man moves. And breathes. And smells.

While at this party, neither of them speaks, (some venetian masks required wearers to keep a wooden button attaced to the mask between their teeth to keep the mask on - thus making speech impossible. Lets imagine these are standard issue in Nilfgaard), and Geralt figures "hey, this is a sex party right, I get to be smarmy", so he spends the rest of the night partaking in over the top PDA, which of course results in them fucking.

This happens a few times, before Geralt realises he may be enjoying this a bit too much. Problem is, he thinks the only reason he's enjoying it is because these events force Emhyr to not speak.

Angst ensues as he spends a whole lot of time trying to convince himself he hates Emhyr's guts, and the sound of his voice is the most annoying thing he's ever heard.

Jury is out on whether or not Emhyr knows his party stalker is Geralt.

Before Empress Cirilla even ascended the throne, she herself popularized a term that quickly became widespread accross the continent.

Gaslighting

By way of explination she had used several bizzare examples, none of which had anything to do with gass or light, but the princess was well understood. Gaslighting was being told something is true when memory and blatant reality clearly prove it false.

The person who became most associated with this phrase was the Princess' third great love, Becca of Tigg. Who we were told looks nothing at all like the late Empress (who had definitely not been called Cirilla of Cintra) and who most certainly is not the same exact woman.

So: Since Emralt is a ship burdened by being rather niche, and had in the past fallen prey to the scorn of fandom morallists, the universe had decided to reward us for our patience and dedication by giving us some of the best writers in fandom.

You can literally just go into the Emhyr/Geralt tag on Ao3 and move from last page (27) foreward. I swear you will find gold on nearly every page. Please please please do that 🙏. I am about to share some of what you have to look forward to, but there are going to be some great works that I miss. Here goes:

Category 1: Bottom Geralt I have a strong preference for subby Emhyr, so the rest of the list is going to be very much that. Nonetheless, these works I loved so much!

The ride into obsession series by @do-androids-dream-ao3acc this author has many works in the fandom - all worth a read. I have been wounded, I have been healed being my favourite.

Dark Mettinna - by Crunad. More Geralt!wump. Very very sweet.

Category 2: fluffy and sweet

Anything by @xpityx (and there are many, bless this writer 🙌) - this one in particular tho. Oohh and this one !!

@traumschwinge has smutty works, and they are veeery hot, but by God, the tenderness is what they do best. This one is my favourite. They also have some wonderful modern Au's 😁. [This one is smutty so should be Cat 3, but again - the sweetness is the draw]

In the footsteps of the Sun - a classic. Oh my god.

what is my body [if it is not a blade] - Geralt accidentally hurts Emhyr. Angst ensues.

Empress Cirilla, it is said, has had four great loves thus far during her reighn.

One was Queen Cerys of Skellige.

The two came together in solidarity, as the young empress was still being tutored for her role, years ago. They would meet upon Skellige's stormy shores, and would dance, and love, and make merry... taking solace and wimsy from one another in the stolen hours between duties and obligations.

Their entanglement lasted, in near perfect bliss, untill Queen Cerys took her husband to wed.

You see, while our Empress and Emperor Consort had been more than content with their own arrangement, each allowing the other passion outside the palace walls, it is said that Queen Cerys yearned for something altogether more posessive. She demanded from her spouse a sort of love still foreign to her own queendom... and was willing, in turn, to forsake her wandering lover to achieve it.

Today, all that remains of the love affair between these two powerful women is a lingering mutual affection, a steel clad alliance between nations, and the occasional wistful sigh.

Happier days in Cintra

Emhyr was originally supposed to have a beard, but the drawing came out very... religeous... and since Emhyr resembling Mary fits my internal narrative a lot better than Emhyr resembling Jesus, imma stick with it this way.

The ratty fur blanket over Emhyr's knees is inspired by a pelt of some poor unidentified animal I inherited from my great grandmother that was recently lost in a fire. I hated the thing, but it had sentimental value, so I am miffed.

A short, experimental, warm-up comic which is a kind of ‘prelude’ to the ‘proper comic’.

Although it is so short, I’m sooo happy that for the first time I managed to make a comic from the beginning to the end and aaaa, my feels!
