Coin's Resources for Research
Here's a list of my personal favorite resources for researching witchcraft, magic, and the occult!
Tumblr media
Websites
Sacred Texts - This site is a collection of electronic texts about religion, mythology, legends and folklore, and occult and esoteric topics. Almost all of it is in the English language (translated) and when possible they give the original language (which is quite often)!
Jstor - Home to thousands of scholarly content. While there are limitations to the open and free content on the site, they still have quite a lot to offer! If you can afford the paid version I highly suggest you do so.
Wikipedia - I don't care what your high school lit teacher told you, Wikipedia is a great resource and a wonderful way to find where to start when you're learning a new topic.
Encyclopedia Britannica - A fact-checked online encyclopedia with hundreds of thousands of objective articles, biographies, videos, and more.
Hoopla - A digital library where you can borrow books, audio books, and more! It's connected to your local library so make sure you get a library card!
Libby - Same situation as Hoopla.
Worldcat - A website that helps you track down reliable sources that you can only find in libraries.
PDFDrive - A website with thousands of free pdfs. It doesn't always have what I'm looking for but it's always worth a shot to check!
Youtube
Esoterica - Run by Dr. Justin Sledge, Esoterica is a channel that discusses the arcane in history, philosophy, and religion.
Angela's Symposium - Dr. Angela Puca's channel where she covers peer-reviewed research and scholarship on magic, witches, esoteric traditions, the occult, Paganism, shamanism and related currents.
ReligionForBreakfast - Dr. Andrew M. Henry's channel that discusses--you guessed it--religion! His goal is to improve the public's religious literacy by exploring humanity's beliefs and rituals through an anthropological, sociological, and archaeological lens.
Misc
Ronald Hutton - Hutton is an invaluable resource and a fantastic historian. He writes the facts without being pretentious and is often quite funny too!

Raffle: Braided Crabapple Stave (OPEN)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
This raffle is for a unique Stave of braided, thorny wood that harvested from a 120+ year old Crabapple tree. It measures approximately 34 inches/86 centimeters in length and 1.5 inches/4 centimeters wide at its thickest point.
After initially acquiring the rare specimen in question, I went about curing the wood, smoothing the ends, and cleaning up some ragged branch stumps. While I usually debark pieces of this sort before working on them, the particular helical structure and profusion of thorns made me worried about being able to strip and sand the piece without damaging it. As such, I instead gave it a thin coat of handmade Dragon's Blood varnish to help stabilize and prime the wood, and then went about staining the entire piece using a polymerized oil pigment I make from Hearth Soot (Creosote) harvested from the interior of our Wood Stove. I applied layer after layer of the pigment until the bark was thoroughly coated and preserved, then used a cloth and my homemade Wisefool’s Oil (a ritually crafted oil of empowerment that also serves as a wonderful wood conditioner) to polish away the excess, before sealing the piece with my personally developed Wisefool's Glaze (a ritually empowered wood varnish made from an array of potent arboreal resins.) Finally, I gave the stave one last protective coating of polyurethane and suffumigated it with a smoke of Apple Blossoms and Dragon's Blood in a simple rite of hallowing.
While the retail price for this item is $200, I am taking the risk of setting up this raffle, in hopes that it might aid me in raising enough money to help us ease the cost of emergency surgery my dog required recently.
Tickets are $5 a piece, each assigned a number, and you can purchase up to three of them. To purchase a ticket, simply use the link below and follow the provided instructions. You will be asked to make an account and fill in your payment details, which will allow the raffle to email you your entry information, as well as automatically notifying the winner when the time comes. Participants are more than welcome to deactivate their accounts following the raffle. A random number generator will be used after ten days' time in order to determine which ticket number is the winner.
Thank you, truly and sincerely, to anyone and everyone who takes part! Please feel free to let me know if you come up against any issues! And as an aside—even if you don't end up entering the raffle, I'm sure that sharing it would still be helpful. :~)

Hi Lucien.
I saw somebody talking about a "faerie religion" that is being revived in traditional witchcraft spaces? I was wondering if you know anything about that and if you can point me towards any sources. It caught my interest. You're the best account I know that deals with this type of thing.
Thank you!
I appreciate your kind words, and I'm glad I can provide some sort of resource for you. However, I can't really say I know what you're talking about. You're not thinking of the "Feri Tradition," by chance, are you?

trans women are everywhere and are so eager to be seen and heard but only if they feel safe around you. if you hardly ever have trans women interacting with you, especially online, then consider there might be a reason for that and you should address it

Devil Ritual
This more refers to the folkloric Devil, the Being that lurks the crossroads, who makes pacts, grants fortune and initiation, honoured by witches as the Witch-father, the Ineffable Name, He who is called by many names: Bucca, Lucifer, Satan, Azazel, Samael, Janicot and many other names. The ritual works to summon the Devil for the means of a pact, thereafter it is used for honouring and only after a period of time in which the magus and Sao become acquainted, can it be used for larger rituals. This draws from various works into something that works well and it may be adapted as per one's own desires.
First, the four way crossroads. If one is unable to find one, one can be established. It is a liminal space and the way this can be done is to obtain, exorcise and consecrate some chalk. Thereafter, let the following items be taken:
Bread, a sweet, some meat, rice or some other food.
A small shot glass and some alcohol
A key
A five coins.
A shawl.
To Establish the Crossroads:
The magus first draws the bar going from top to bottom, they begin:
By Heaven, by Earth, by Hell, I set the gate, I open the gate. By Night, by Darkness and Key, I part the veil, I set the gate, I open the Gate.
The crossbar is then drawn:
Veni, Veni, Diablo, My Lord, My Master, My Liege, Witchfather Thrice Horned, Bearing the Flame, the Lantern and the Cup of the Witchblood.
The five coins are then placed on the crossroads, four at each of the corners and one at the centre:
A coin for the dead who cross the river. A coin for the ferryman, a coin for those who guard the gates of hell, a coin for the demons who watch over this rite, and lastly - a coin for thou My Lord, my Liege, My Master, Dancing One on Sabbath's Night and Wandering One in the Graves, with one foot in Hell and the Other on Earth, rising, rising, rising about. Veni, Veni, Satanas, Pater Satanas.
The key is then taken and tapped onto the centre coin 9 times saying:
I call upon the Gates of Hell, open, open to me. I call upon the Demons, 8 Infernal Divines, open the paths to the way of Knowledge I call upon thee, My Lord, as child to father, as disciple to master, as hermit to inspiration, come thou, My Lord, my king, my ruler, into thy hands I commend myself and bid thee welcome.
The magus then allows themselves to sit and feel the land around them. A dog may bark in the distance, or you may see specific animals that appear. The air might change, it might become darker or lighter, you might feel the Lord as a jubilant child, akin to the dancing Satyrs, or you might feel him as a staunch teacher who comes from the ways. You might see him as a horned figure, a man clothed in black, a dog or some other form. Whatever comes to you, let it come and say:
Hail to thou, Blessed Lord, manifold are you. I beseech thee, my Lord, my Protector and grant these offerings unto you.
Give the bread and alcohol
My Lord, I bid thee, unto me grant the sacred pact, the cursed mark of the Wanderer, from me strip those chains which may bind and guide me by thy fiery light, unto the path of wisdom. I pray thee, my Lord, hear my prayer and see it fit to aid me.
The shawl is then placed on the floor before the magus and the witch's mark, similar to the rune Algiz is made over it. It is made by taking the three middle fingers of the left hand and placing them spread apart before drawing them down to the centre to form the main stave of Algiz.
My Lord, I commit myself to thee, blessed Master, see it fit to watch over me, teach me, guide me and let me not fall to the hands of my enemies, I beseech thee by thy wisdom and thy greater glory. Salve, Salve, Salve Satanas, Salve Diablos, Hail to thou Manifold Ruler and King.
The shawl is then taken and used to cover the head and back, representing the protection of the magus and the hidden ways that will be revealed. The magus allows Sao to speak if he wishes and when the communion has been complete, the magus may then say a prayer of gratitude to the Lord and bid him farewell. Thereafter, the magus takes the key, the five coins, and places it in the shawl. They wrap it up and keep it somewhere safe.
You may find yourself experiencing certain things, dreams, signs through black dogs, birds of various types, you may find yourself witness to visions and the like. This is natural. I remember when I first did this ritual, I bore witness to a gift tied up with a black bow and that was when I knew my pact was accepted, you may find the same thing or some other representation of bonding or gifts.

‘The Ghetto Tarot’: Haitian artists transform classic tarot deck into stunning real life scenes:
Welcome to the Ghetto Tarot, a project from award-winning documentary photographer Alice Smeets and a group of Haitian artists known as Atis Rezistans. The idea was to take the classic Rider-Waite tarot deck of 78 cards and create a photographic version of each card using settings and objects in the vibrant ghetto of Haiti.
As Smeets says, “The spirit of the Ghetto Tarot project is the inspiration to turn negative into positive while playing. The group of artists ‘Atiz Rezistans’ use trash to create art with their own visions that are a reflection of the beauty they see hidden within the waste. They are claiming the word ‘Ghetto,’ thus freeing themselves of its depreciating undertone and turning it into something beautiful.”

Not everything the Christians do is stolen from some anonymous pagan culture. I'm sorry y'all but the Christians did actually come up with a bunch of shit on their own.
