I'm a strong advacate for taking action and doing your part. But much of what is happening around us right now is beyond our own physical control yet many of us fight this reality to much fatigue of our minds and energy of our limbs. Stop. Breathe. I think these times in which we are witnessing much loss of life, loss of health, loss of jobs, loss of wealth is a strong reminder that these things never belonged to us in the first place- that they all belong to Allah and ultimately return to Him. That they were only gifted to us to enjoy for an appointed time and that we similarly will follow suit.. May Allah allow us to retain to Him in the best of states. This is the most common english translation of this verse, but unfortunately it isn't really all that accurate. The word for favour in Arabic is ‘ni’amm' or ‘fathaill' not ‘alaa'. Alaa' is actually something 'that gets your attention'- so Allah swt is repeatedly telling us in surah Rahman that he has placed so many amazing things around us that beg our attention, that are screaming for us to look at what Allah swt is doing for us that we are not paying attention to. So it basically highlights how we are so far away from acknowledging just how actively involved Allah swt is in our lives at all times- good or bad. So next time we are going through hardship and shaytan gets you having thoughts like 'where Allah is when you need him?' or 'why Allah has taken away your blessings?' just remember that there are so many things all around you right now that are begging for you to acknowledge as blessings from Allah- May Allah make us of those who are truly grateful!
