okie so i want to talk about the evolution of Tony and Natasha’s relationship, because they couldn’t have gone from “You’re fired.” “That’s not your call.” to Natasha literally siding with him against Cap without some serious bonding
i imagine that Natasha requested to be off of his case as soon as he knew she was SHIELD. the game’s up, her cover’s blown, and she wants nothing to do with this moronic narcissist any longer
i also imagine that Fury insists that she stay with him as Natalie, prompting the biggest - and probably only - fight they’ve ever had
it’s also probably the only fight she’s ever lost, and so she whiles away the hours at Stark Industries by calling Clint and complaining about all the asinine shit that Tony does
there’s probably a moment where Pepper pulls her aside and asks her to keep an eye on Tony bc being a CEO doesn’t give her a lot of time to look out for him, and it’s the first time Natasha sees Tony’s issues as more than just words in his file
fast forward to post-Avengers, Natasha’s allowed to be herself around Pepper and Tony but there’s still (even after everything) this wedge of mistrust between them
but god dammit if she isn’t invested now. she’s seen what he’s willing to do to keep people safe, and she’ll be damned if he’s gonna do it alone. so she does what she does best:
she spies.
flies under the radar.
does recon.
just keeps an eye on things because she’s seen firsthand how damaged tony is and despite the fact that he doesn’t trust her, she’s not going to let him face any of this alone
i also like to think that it’s pepper that forgives her first, and they make a habit of having drinks and basically just talking and enjoying each other’s company (nat is also pepper’s emergency number in case shit really hits the fan)
then after IM3, i feel like Natasha would be there during one of Tony’s panic attacks, and just appear out of thin fucking air, rubbing his back and talking about everything and nothing until he can breathe again.
they never really address it, but she’s no longer persona non grata after that - Tony also finds a bottle of anti-anxiety meds on his counter one morning. “They help -N.”
and somewhere along the line she stops lurking and just hangs out around the mansion, and tony gets to talking to her about, well, everything, and she knows how scared he is, how much he needs to have accountability, and she knows she can’t always be that for him
what im saying is i really want a movie dedicated to their relationship so i can wrap my head around her siding with tony - bc there is so much potential that’s wasted in the MCU bc they hate utilizing natasha for anything other than weird romance plots and as their Strong Female Character ™

"She's the closest thing I have to a daughter "
Am I the only one who loves found family trope so much? Especially the adopted daughter and dad one? The bond btw Skye and Coulson was just beyond beautiful.. I loved how they both became what the other person needed. It's so beautiful to see two characters choose eachother when their own flesh n blood doesn't. The way Coulson loved and protected Skye and gave her a home and how Skye became a daughter to him in return.. Just the beauty of Aos..
This show is soo underatted..

rewatching 02x19 and Simmons deadass asks Skye/Daisy if she made any friends. this lady has been prepared to be a mother before she even knew. totally the mom friend. this and the little gluten free biscuits she packed for skye when she went to the retreat confirms it.
Daisy, watching Simmons scolding Alya: Why does this feel familiar

I just remembered that one part of season 7 where May hugs Daisy
Tumblr media
Gif by @daisyssousa
And it makes me so happy. It would have been easy to have May’s empathic ability without consequences— she can direct it where she wants and use it as a superpower. Instead they handled it like they handled inhumans in season 3; she can’t turn off her ability and sometimes it has side effects she doesn’t want. She can read everyone, like her own family, all those scientists in 7x05, and everyone in the bar in the 70’s. That’s something AoS does very well— giving us consequences for superpowers. They are not without practical side effects, and they are sometimes devastating. Daisy’s abilities break her bones if she’s not careful. May gets overwhelmed with everyone else’s feelings (which, how interesting when that’s something she’s struggled with even before the powers. Manifesting characters’ existing struggles in their abilities is very cool). It’s the kind of thing you mostly see in fan speculation, but not as much in canon.
All this to say I’m glad we got to see May’s empathic ability in relation to the team. We don’t just see it when it’s necessary for the plot, it’s consistent throughout.
And all THAT to say, how wonderful that May gets to read Daisy. A lot of their relationship is told in subtext throughout the seasons. Giving May an empathic ability gives May and Daisy the opportunity to tear through those layers of fear and just let them love each other (as MOTHER-DAUGHTER, Bee). It was really nice to see May get to literally experience how much Daisy loves her. Can you imagine if season 1 May could see that?

Rating women of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D based on how huggable they are
Daisy: She is always touch starved. Gives excellent hugs but it’s clear how scared she is of letting go. 8/10
Jemma: Better at cuddling than hugging, would sit on a couch with her but her hugs are probably too quick. 6/10
Bobbi: Probably also gives quite quick hugs, but she canonically does that soft tall person draping-her-arms-around-your-shoulders thing. 7/10
Yo-Yo: Better at being comforted than comforting others in a hug. But I imagine when she’s being comforted she just leans her head on your chest/shoulder and lets you take her weight. Excellent feeling, if different from the others. 9/10
Bonus Round: May throughout the seasons
Seasons 1-2: Awkward. Tense. Not horrific but she’s clearly very uncomfortable. 4/10
Seasons 3-4: Better. 6/10
Seasons 5-7: She has gotten better at showing affection and is so much more desperate to be around the people she loves. More willing to comfort others physically, she has reached Mom Hug levels of comfort. 10/10

Headcanon that Skye starts saying "ugh okay MOM" to May when May is being The Adult in all their various domesticy team situations (particularly as Skye's CO), at least once they are comfortable enough around each other to appreciate (read: good-naturedly tolerate) sarcasm from each other. But then by the time she's Daisy, the sarcasm is more half-hearted in her voice, warmer and barely covering the longing and unstated love. May's orders become more like motherly wisdom and her eye rolls are paired with her subtle smile. And eventually the pretense drops and what was once a jab and then an inside joke is now something like a nickname. And eventually, at the academy, everyone new in May's life assumes the photo on her desk is her daughter. And, she is. Maybe not something as formal as adoption and paperwork, nor even a fuzzy heartfelt conversation, but things with them didn't ever need formality to be real anyway. They know.

Can we just take a moment to appreciate Coulson's Dad Jokes™ and his massive Dad energy in season 7 and the way everyone is just so here for it.
I mean they were all there since season one as we watched him adopt all of his agents children. And then just proceeded to love them as his own through the ups and downs of the next seasons.
But this has all been kind of on the side and everyone's just kind of accepted his jokes and that and moved on. Now we've got a much better family vibe going, maybe it's just the craziness of the previous adventures through space and to different worlds with all the pain and darkness, and this traveling through time on a planet they actually know but anyway. All we know is we're definitely here for it.
It means we get utter gems like this...
Tumblr media
Where Coulson just goes full out dad and rambles about all the history and random facts he knows about Shields history.
Tumblr media
And you get Daisy just blatantly calling him out on it, and outright calling him Dad as well (for the first time if I remember correctly)
And if that's not enough look at May's side eyes at Coulson going "Hey look our kid is calling you Dad" and Coulson's happy little smile as Daisy walks past.
Thank you for finally giving us the Shield family we deserve.
