All it means when people say “you’re speaking from a place of privilege” is that you’re likely to underestimate how bad the problem is by default because you are never personally exposed to that problem. It’s not a moral judgement of how difficult your life is.

I've said this before and I'll say it again: it's more important to know and understand fully why something is harmful than it is to drop everything deemed problematic. It's performative and does nothing. People wonder why nobody has critical thinking skills and this is part of it because no one knows how to simousltansly critique and consume media. You need to use discernment.

#watching/reading/playing something and being like ''hmmm this artist has some unconscious or conscious biases #which are bleeding into the work via x y and z literary devices. that's the context in which i should consider the rest of the work'' #is more or less the only way to ''practice'' media literacy in fiction imo #other than like literally studying/taking a class. to be clear actual education is also important #I'm just saying like on an individual basis

the humble "like" is oft mocked despite what it does for us. "like, three people" is a vastly different statement from "three people". "and i was like 'what the fuck'" is vastly different from "and i said 'what the fuck'". i love you "like" and anyone who says you make people sound stupid will be killed on sight
