The worst ‘Xiaolin Showdown’ episodes

As much as I love the series as a whole, there were a few “bad” episodes in my opinion.

Season One

S1, Ep. 6 “Chameleon”: What really bothered me about this episode was that Clay, Raimundo and Omi should have spent enough time with Kimiko in prior episodes to know that the Chameleon bot wasn’t her. She was too cheery, she was saying lingo that she would never say, and no one ever thought that robot disguised as her was literally a scrap of metal when the design in the episode was extremely obvious? Did they have to use Omi’s ‘Tiger Instincts” (which was unnecessary) to figure out it wasn’t her when they should know her mannerisms since she is their friend??

Season Two

S2, Ep. 5 “Pandatown”: Overall, I did like the development that finally showed Raimundo becoming an apprentice. However, Omi’s “holier than thou” attitude was more annoying than usual. The only reason Raimundo wasn’t promoted to apprentice was because he simply didn’t listen to Master Fung’s orders. It had nothing to do with his fighting skills, yet Omi made it about his fighting style, especially in the scene where he tries to give Raimundo the one out of shape minion of Pandabubba’s. Another thing that irked me is Omi, Kimiko and Clay are willing to listen to Jack Spicer over their teammate. I get it was to further the plot, but the fact they didn’t trust Raimundo over Jack...they had what was coming to them when they were kidnapped.

S2, Ep. 9 “Hear Some Evil, See Some Evil”: The episode is literally about the monks invading each other’s privacy by listening to their inner thoughts. Even when it’s someone you care about, you’re not going to have positive thoughts on the person all the time. But yeah, let’s use invasion of privacy to bring the team closer together. Well, at least there was a lesson in this one unlike the other episode that deals with invasion of privacy in Season 3 (I’ll get to that in a minute).

S2, Ep. 14 “Screams of the Siren”: It was a highly unnecessary filler episode. We never even hear from Dyris or Klofange again. I suppose we learn don’t judge a book by it’s cover...but as a kid, the lesson you take away the most is don’t trust mermaids because they’re manipulative.

S2, Ep. 23 “Something Jermaine”: Greeaaat. Another episode of Omi being jealous. As if this hasn’t happened before. Honestly, most episodes have to do with Omi being too trusting or too jealous or being too sexist. But anyway, how did Chase Young find Jermaine and realize he had a connection with the monks? Unless Jack told him since Jack did see Jermaine in the first season.

Season Three

S3, Ep. 5 “Treasure of The Blind Swordsman”: First of all, this should have been a two part episode since such a powerful artifact (which was never used to it’s full effect. I mean, it could have sent Hannibal to the Ying Yang World. But no one used it for that). Second of all, it felt the pacing was just way too fast, again given what they were looking for. Then Raimundo leaves the treasure on the trail, thinking a powerful artifact is going to be there when they come back. If they wouldn’t leave Shen Gong Wu lying around, then why would they leave a chest with magical abilities lying around?

S3, Ep. 9 “Chucky Choo”: Like...what was the actual point of this episode? Chucky Choo was still a con at the end of the episode...and Dojo never did get back his yo-yo since he found out it was a fake at the end. Plus it really had nothing to do with the overall theme of the season. It was just a useless filler episode.

S3, Ep. 10 “Wu Got The Power”: First of all, Hannibal Bean already went into someone’s dreams once this season, Raimundo’s. While that was well done, you would think Hannibal would know that going into someone’s dreams a second time wouldn’t work. However, he did use Omi’s need to be the best against him, which did lead to the most beautifully animated fight of the series. So...that episode has that for it at least. But you would think Omi would take what he learned here...and not do the same mistake in the finale.

S3, Ep. 11 “Hannibal’s Revenge”: Okay, we’re back to talking about invading someone’s privacy.This time Kimiko combines the Mind Reader Conch, her PDA and the Changing Chopsticks so she can hear everyone’s thoughts. Did she not learn from last season that knowing everyone’s thoughts is a bad idea? Plus...she burns down parts of the forest at the beginning of the episode. Talk about careless. She basically messed up and walked away scott free.

S3, Ep. 12 - 13 “Time After Time (Part 1 & 2)”: Okay there were some parts of the episodes that were great. I enjoyed Raimundo becoming leader over Omi and him finally getting Omi’s respect. Also I was glad to see that Omi’s actions had serious consequences. But the thing that bothered me the most about these episodes was it focused too much on Omi and not enough on Clay and Kimiko. Plus everything happened because Omi had a need of being the best so he could get the promotion. Another thing that bugged me was Good Chase Young didn’t get a lot of credit for what he did. He willingly turned himself evil so Raimundo and the others could find the frozen Omi. For some reason, I was hoping that there would be a fourth season since there were still some loose ends overall. Plus I wanted a full season of Raimundo leading the group instead of Omi.

How the Heylin Wake Up in the Morning:

Jack: The poor boy rarely goes to sleep once he’s in “the zone”, but on the rare occasion that he actually when to bed, he wakes up a lil groggy and confused. After about a minute of popping his back and stretching his arms, his disorientation wears off and he trudges to the kitchen for a cup of coffee and maybe a muffin.

Wuya: Wuya tends to wake up slowly and luxuriously. First it’s a lil stretch of the arm and a couple sleepy blinks, then a big yawn and a stretch of the fingers and toes, then shes finally ready to sit up and massage her scalp. Her first step is to bathe, but sometimes the night’s are really dry and she detours straight to the kitchen for some tea.

Chase Young: Chase is an early riser. He has a strict internal clock that snaps his eyes open at 6 a.m. sharp. From there its some morning tai chi and then a glorious breakfast with a crisp newspaper. Basically, he likes to wake up all his muscles before starting a long day of traumatizing teenagers.

Hannibal Bean: This bean loves his beauty sleep, but the mere thought of all the fun, evil things he has planned for the day has him reveled up by 9 a.m. at the latest. He likes to do a lil morning wiggle to get the blood flowing before executing any of his plans. There’s no need for a cup of joe- this guy stays hydrated on a big ol’ cup of children’s tears.

Le Mime: This boy usually wakes up at 8 a.m. and immediately gets dresses. He likes listening to the radio while he brushes his teeth and combs his hair- even going so far as to dance along to the songs! He’s a morning person through and through, and loves nothing more than an early morning walk to the best cafe in Paris!

Katnappe: Ashley is anything but a morning person- she will sleep until dinner if you let her. That’s why she has five different alarms set up and eventually wakes up at 10 a.m. She then does her hair, a lil makeup, and slaps on some trendy threads. No matter what day it is, she always leaves the house looking purrrfect!

Tubbimura: Tubbimura sticks to a strict schedule in order to get the most out of his day, though he tends to sleep in more on saturdays. On normal days, however, he wakes up at 6 a.m. but will space out for a lil bit while his brain wakes up too. Then its a simple stretch, shower, then dressed in time for breakfast while he catches up with social media and checks his voicemail.

Gigi: Gigi blooms like the beautiful flower he is. With a lil stretch, a lil yawn, and a lil sun he’s ready for the day!

* Chase mixes together three different shampoos in order to maintain his mane

* Hannibal lives for the drama he causes- especially if it inconveniences Chase in any way

* Jack actually enjoys talking to his grandma and getting her feedback on his inventions

* Jack likes teaching Vlad how to say “kiss my ass” in different languages

* Vlad sends Jack facebook cat memes at 3 a.m.

* Gigi once hit on a dandelion and Jack encouraged him

* Jack likes his mom better than his dad because his mom will at least say hello when she enters the house

* Despite how annoyed he is, Chase secretly admires Jack’s ambition because it reminds him of himself when he was younger (granted he was way more badass)

* There is actually an evil book club led by Hannibal Roy- Jack i still not invited though

Edit: YES I know Xiaolin Showdown was on WB kids, not Cartoon Network. I just wanted to highlight that Cartoon Network did broadcast a show by a woman of colour before Steven Universe, not that Christy Hui is being discredited.
