I liked Alan's development with the kids in the movies but I also like Alan immediately being nice to them in the book. He's so sweet

Jurassic Park daily: in which Arnold is a pretty alright guy actually
I actually think I like book Arnold better than movie Arnold. Movie Arnold was Samuel L Jackson's first really major role, so I don't know where he's drawing from his endlessly deep well of Motherfucking Over It. It works in the movie, but book Arnold is a lot more active, and a lot more invested. And a lot more tolerant of the people around him who don't understand tech as well as he does, because why would they? Let's not forget that in 1993 there were huge swaths of the English-speaking world that needed to be explicitly taught how to use a mouse. (Like the kind with a cord that plugs into the back of the computer with a weird funky color-coded plug.) Arnold has probably spent his entire professional life explaining things in layman's terms. Bravo sir! You're wrong, but bravo!
Hey, hey Harding?
Um Harding
Where'd you get that thermometer Harding
Where did you get a giant butt thermometer, Harding

Tim and Lex certainly are getting a fair share of violence committed against them. Someone's gotta save them.
Thank you Alan for your effort but please get them out faster

Wow Muldoon flexing his hunter knowledge on Gennaro while standing on Regis corpse is such a cute date

You know what positively surprised me today? That Muldoon actually explains everything he does to Gennaro. That he answers his question properly instead of saying "You'll see in 1000 years when it's already been too late 10 times" and he gets to the crucial points quickly while still being patient. Not like a certain other man... Van Helsing 馃槖 Did you see how easy that was Van Helsing????? Did you?? This could've been you! But you chose not to be! 馃檮 You chose to tell us about CORN instead of the vampires!
So yeah shoutout to Muldoon for being a reasonable nice guy with experience. Anti-shoutout to Van Helsing

Good to see Ian alive. Even though he's barely alive I feel like he'll be okay? I'm a bit disappointed that Ellie didn't go investigate with muldoon (she did in the movie right?) but I also really appreciate Gennaro's character and him not just being a slimy stereotypical lawyer

I like that Gennaro mentions and voices his fears and worries. Doesn't make him look like a coward like in the movie but honest and transparent. I respect that and it makes him cooler

Everything about Jurassic Park kind of reminds me of the time that Facebook went down and they couldn鈥檛 get into their offices to fix it because the building鈥檚 key card entry system was run through Facebook.
Just. They think their tech is so clever and coordinated and automated that they don鈥檛 actually stop to think.

Been a while - I fell behind but I'm all caught up now! Some thoughts on the bits I read through:
Hammond only cares about the grand reveal, and really wants to keep the park as much of a secret as possible until then. Unfortunately this means not properly communicating with people he's hired to prevent potential leaks, but then that leads to so many other problems.
Even Tim isn't interested in the dino park, and that's because Hammond doesn't care about how people might view it - he assumes that any functional dinosaur park he makes has to be good on the sole virtue of the achievement itself and hasn't put thought into the logistics beyond that.
The park is still a year away from opening but as of the events of the novel it's only been 5 years (!!) since they started the project - no WONDER everything's falling apart if they rushed it that much.
