Governments around the world imposed lockdown orders, many people switched on their games consoles. Gaming has been proven to be one of the ways of escaping the uncertainties of reality times of crisis and anxiety, as noted by World Health Organization (WHO).
In fact, digital games have already gained traction few years ago and it was one of the booming sectors. In 2017, YouTube gaming grew its streamer base by 343% while Facebook gaming grew 210% in 2019.

India's Entry
The construction of the Hi-Tech City in Hyderabad boosted the IT sector. Similarly, the Telangana State government has planned to set up large gaming and animation park (Image Tower) so that the industry will also grow. Recently, the Central Government also announced the setting up of a Centre of Excellence with the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay, to launch courses in AVGC and promote entrepreneurship in the sector.

RAJI : An Ancient Epic
Raji: An Ancient Epic has been causing ripples across the world for its stunning visuals, use of Indian mythology, and a great storyline. The console-worthy game from India was delayed for a couple of years due to the lack of funds making it a bumpy ride for founders Shruti Ghosh, Avichal Singh, and Ian Maude. Indianexpress.com spoke to the three founders about their journey of creating the game, which has been released earlier this week on Nintendo Switch and is set to launch on PC and consoles soon.
“It feels great. Finally, after three years of struggle, we are going to get the game out,” Ghosh heaves a sigh of relief as she lists every excruciating detail in their long journey to get the game out. “In the initial years when we tried to do a Kickstarter campaign, we could not reach the goal. That was the only plan we had back then. We made a demo for 10 months,” she remembers, adding that the team was just five of them… “sustaining ourselves with our savings”.
CONCLUSION
Maybe not today, nor tomorrow but some day soon , we would see gaming industry as successful as the Movies Industry of today.
Youtubers are playing a vital role in promoting gaming through streaming. Even Government of India is seeking for ideas in what ways gaming industry can help boost the country's GDP.
