My interpretations of the keedie soundtrack part 1.

I am not sure if elle intended this to go with the plot of the book or to just generally have the vibes of the book but I thought I'd share my thoughts on how I link some of the songs to the book.

Another brick in the wall

I think this is pretty clearly about how keedie views the school system. It does set the tone quite well I think.

Hong kong garden

I wasn't sure why this linked at first, I thought maybe keedie would just like the band but then I found this quote from the singer

"I'll never forget, there was a Chinese restaurant in Chislehurst called 'The Hong Kong Garden.' Me and my friend were really upset that we used to go there and like, occasionally when the skinheads would turn up it would really turn really ugly. These gits were just go in on mass and just terrorize these Chinese people who were working there. We'd try and say 'Leave them alone,' you know. It was a kind of tribute." (from Punk Top Ten Interview, August 6, 2001

So I think it actually links to keedie's anti bullying sentiments.

Mirrorball

This is the first track on this soundtrack that made me cry. The first time I heard it it was just a perfect description of masking. I can't tell though whether "shining just for you" is a positive or a negative. I like to think of it as when they're alone they shine for the people they love and that accept them. In keedie's case I think it would be for addie. But it could also still be masking to protect the other person or to make them happy. "I'm still a believer but I don't know why, I've never been a natural all I do is try try try" hit me really hard and also really well encompasses keedie's hope for a better future for addie despite everything she's been through and obviously she's not a natural in the ways neurotypical people are but she's trying so hard to fit in and also she's trying so hard to do the right thing.

Also it's the "I want you to know" it feels like all the things she wishes she could tell people but she doesn't because it'll break the illusion of who she is for them. Or all the things she's trying to tell them but doesn't have the words for like her scream at the founders day celebration.

I feel like this post is getting a bit long but I'll make a part 2 to do some of the other tracks!

I wonder how many people knew about Merlin’s magic and chose not to say anything because they knew he’d either be doing stupid harmless stuff like stealing snacks from the kitchen or saving Arthur’s life so they just decided “I didn’t see shit. I’m blind in both eyes, ask Gaius.”

We all know at least a handful of guards only found out from Gaius yelling “are you using magic again?” With the door wide open.

Aziraphale is literally such a good character. The more I think about him the more I go completely feral. He was specifically created as a warrior to fight and protect. He’s soft and camp and likes feather boas. He’s spent 6000 years acting like he’s the most kind and polite perfect little angel but he’ll fucking destroy you with a single glare. He’s an absolute bitch. His face lights up with the smile of a thousand suns. He’ll kill someone for crêpes with his boyfriend. He lies to God. He needs the biggest hug in the whole world. His standards will NEVER be met. He has travel sweets. He painted his bookshop the colour of his soulmate’s eyes. He’s one bad day away from having a mental breakdown so intense it would explode half the planet. He loves humans so much but if any of them so much as speak to him he’ll require three business days to recuperate. He is THE Southern Pansy. He declared war on Hell because they interrupted the Jane Austen ball he meticulously planned just to dance with his boyfriend. He is so so traumatised and hasn’t experienced a straightforward emotion in his life. He WOULD bite people if he was given the opportunity. He is the most annoying bastard you’ve ever met (affectionate). He can’t speak French.

Just finished starkid's ani and again I wasn't sure about it at first and I didn't get all the references but I enjoyed it so much. I am always impressed at starkid's ability to balance genuine moments with funny ones and to show really good character relationships because it really makes all of their musicals. No matter what they're about I always end up caring for the characters and I think that's testament to the writing and to the acting.

Also, with my own eyes is such a good song

Ao3 is actually massively culturally important and very very good at being what it is. I’m so serious when I say that ao3 needs to be protected as the anti censorship, by fans for fans, nonprofit, volunteer run, expertly designed archival site that it is. You don’t have to read or like fanfiction to understand that on principle, ao3 is a site that should be defended.

You know, that Mythbusters post legitimately changed my life. Before seeing it, I had exponentially more guilt and stress about not being able to sleep, which of course, further exacerbated my inability to sleep.

Now, every time I wake up about three am, knowing I have to get up at 6.45, instead of stressing and panicking about how my day is going to be sleep deprived and miserable, I just tell myself 'Time to activate Mythbusters Protocol' and lie there with my eyes closed safe in the knowledge that I am measurably reducing later feelings of exhaustion.

And when this happens, about 70% of the time the reduction of guilt and stress means I actually do fall back asleep, so all in all instead of getting only three or four hours sleep, I get five to six and a half.

Which y'know, major improvement in health and energy.

That song is INCREDIBLE like it's so emotionally impactful and Clark has such a great voice but realistically it's not gonna happen without Joe. I will forever be frustrated that I hadn't developed a full appreciation for this song when they performed it at leakycon london

2. What would be your realistic top choice? Like you'd love to see this song AND you think they might actually perform it?

Sidekick is always a great time and I'd love to see Joey perform it in 2024. Like I was so impressed when he sang this originally in avpsy because his voice had improved so much and it's improved EVEN MORE since then so I think he'd smash it

Having said that I reckon they're much more likely to go with as cool as I think I am or made in america for a Joey solo

3. Which songs from avpsy do you think will actually make it on the setlist

Honestly I'm v unsure on the answer to this. They performed LOADS of avpsy songs at leakycon london but idk if that's because they really like those songs or just because it was the most recent show

Personally this album is a lot of skips for me and I'm not convinced we'll get any avpsy songs... my best guess would be sidekick or wizard of the year (I think Corey could smash this tbh) but I think the most likely scenario is 0 avpsy songs sorry
