The secret about self esteem
You don’t actually have to love yourself to be happy, healthy, and stable. Here are some beliefs that you can work towards instead
- no one deserves bad treatment, including you - You deserve to be treated with self kindness & to meet you own physical and emotional needs - Physical appearance isn’t the most important thing, and even if you’re unattractive you deserve to be able to live your life without shame - that no one is expected to be perfect at everything they try, and that it’s ok to enjoy things you aren’t good at - It’s more interesting and fun to focus your thoughts outward on the world and other people than to think about how much you like or dislike yourself - That everyone makes mistakes and does embarrassing things, and that an embarrassing event might feel really terrible but it’s not actually a threat - It’s not worth obsessing over whether you are a good or bad person, bc those things don’t really exist. (There are only good & bad actions; humans are way too complex & ever changing to fit into black & white labels) - Your thoughts and emotions are as valid & team as anyone else’s
Basically, the goal with all of this is to accept that you can treat yourself with self compassion. It is going to be near impossible to be happy if you constantly tear yourself down, or if you don’t respect needs, but it’s definitely possible to be happy feeling pretty meh about it.
I recommend focusing on things you believe are true for all people, then working back to yourself (for example, that everyone deserves to be treated kindly, that physical appearance isn’t shameful, that everyone makes mistakes, etc). Make self kindness the goal. When you are being mean to yourself, remind yourself to be kinder. If you feel horrible about a mistake remember you are only human. And the rest of the time? Pour your energy into creating meaningful activities in your life. Make art, chase goals, call friends, read books, learn, create, engage. You will find the works is much bigger and brighter when you make room for something besides self criticism.

Repeat after me: I am going to love myself. I am going to meet amazing people. I am going to fall a little more in love with life. I am going to achieve everything I am dreaming of. I am going to live the life I so desperately want to live. I am going to find someone who will love me with all their heart. I am going to find peace. I am going to be content.
It is all about mindset, my love. You attract what you think. Deep down, you already know that you deserve all of this, there is just a thick layer of doubt, negativity and fear that needs to be stripped away first. Internalise these affirmations. Repeat them every day - because you are going to be so okay. Do yourself a favour and start believing in the good things.

oh my god so when i was watching the hamilfilm today, it must’ve been the 1000th time i heard the song “burn,” and thus heard these lyrics:
You published the letters she wrote you. You told the whole world how you brought this girl into our bed. In clearing your name, you have ruined our lives.
and it suddenly hit me. the “our” there might not be referring to eliza and alexander.
because one thing i always liked was how eliza–onstage, at least–never insults maria, even though she was sleeping with her husband. she never calls her names or blames her for the affair. she instead focuses all her energy on being pissed at her cheating husband.
and in real life, maria’s life really was ruined after the affair came out. she lost everything, including custody of her daughter. and imagine how fucking humiliated she must’ve been when hamilton published her letters.
i always heard those lyrics as: “You didn’t just ruin my life, you’ve also ruined your own, you idiot.”
but now, i think it could also be: “You didn’t just ruin my life, you also ruined hers.”

Can’t help but notice a lot of the people that actively go out of their way to shit on Hamilton because it’s not historically accurate enough and the real founding fathers were assholes, are white people trying to be woke. Should really go without saying: discrediting and trying to detract from the work of people of colour isn’t woke.
Most Black and Brown people aren’t the ones pressed about the historical inaccuracies because we know the founding fathers were a bunch of assholes. Some of us are still walking around with slave surnames because of what those assholes did. We don’t need your fake woke white liberalism up in here telling us that this show that created opportunity for Black and Brown theatre performers across the globe to be on stage en masse getting critical acclaim is “problematic” or “glorifies the founding fathers” like, we literally never asked for your hot take on this.
We know it’s not historically accurate. But if you’re going to a musical for a history lesson rather than historically influenced entertainment, then that’s a you problem. Stop letting your you problem shit all over something that was and remains monumental for us. If you are white it is not your place to say a damn thing about Hamilton. Hamilton is there to be enjoyed but it wasn’t brought into this world for your benefit. (If you’re a POC and have issues tho that’s a different kettle of fish, you do you babey you’re doing amazing.) White people trying to “cancel” or quash excitement about something made by and starring predominantly all poc really does not sit right.

Whether or not you like/are watching Hamilton on this July 4th, 2020 here’s some reminders:
He’d have you all unravel at the sound of screams but the revolution is comin'. the have-nots are gonna win this
there will be a revolution in this century.
we'll never be truly free until those in bondage have the same rights as you and me
this is not a moment, it's the movement.
I know the action in the street is excitin' but Jesus, between all the bleedin' 'n fightin', I've been readin' 'n writin'. We need to handle our financial situation. Are we a nation of states, what's the state of our nation?
Life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness; we fought for these ideals we shouldn't settle for less
“You need the votes.” “No, we need bold strokes”
Immigrants, we get the job done.
America...a place where even orphan immigrants can leave their fingerprints and rise up!
I want to warn against partisan fighting
realize...the benign influence of good laws under a free government
You have no control who lives, who dies, who tells your story.
revolution is messy but now is the time to stand
When my prayers to God were met with indifference, I picked up a pen, I wrote my own deliverance!
There's only one way for us to win this: provoke outrage, outright. Don't engage, strike by night. Remain relentless 'til their troops take flight. Make it impossible to justify the cost of the fight.
Outrun, outlast, hit 'em quick, get out fast. Stay alive 'til this horror show is past. We’re gonna fly a lot of flags half-mast.
Corruption's such an old song that we can sing along in harmony and nowhere is it stronger than in Albany.
“The constitution's a mess.” “So it needs amendments.” “It's full of contradictions.” “So is independence!”
Let’s take a stand with the liberty god has granted us.
we studied and we fought and we killed, for the notion of a nation we now get to build
When you got skin in the game, you stay in the game, but you don't get a win unless you play in the game. you get love for it, you get hate for it, you get nothing if you wait for it.
We want our leaders to save the day! But we don't get a say in what they trade away
And most important:
History Has Its Eyes on You.

ICE has been ordered to release children but they're the ones who get to decide if they release their parents as well or if they're just throwing these kids out, so please at the very least sign this petition

also, if you missed it, chris redd from SNL put together a gofoundme to help black protestors who might test positive for covid-19 in the upcoming weeks as well as pay for urgent medical care for those severely hurt during the riots.

It is okay to doubt yourself sometimes.
It is okay to doubt yourself for whatever reason.
It is okay to not be 110% sure.
It is okay to take your time figuring things out.
It is okay to experiment and question.
It is okay to realize the label you had picked is wrong.
It is okay and you are valid.

Spread this like wildfire. This shows would a doubt that cops are damaging their own vehicles in attempts to make the protesters look even worse. It should be pretty obvious that if they willing to do this, they're willing to send plain clothes cops to start the looting and fires (which is what happened and keeps happening).
