How to explain Kim Rok Soo:
Just assume that KRS is Batman, except he actually has some powers, he's delusional about not being rich, has 10 times more tragic backstory, actually murders his bad guys and doesn't get his military-proficient-butler or evil clown nemesis until he transmigrates 😂

Tcf part 2 chapter 276
If Choi Han is like an older brother, Rosalyn is like an older sister. Gashan is like a grandfather and Raon is like a younger brother. Cale is like an uncle to him, or- 'Yes.' He was like a father. It was strange. Although their age difference is not that much, when Lock was praised or acknowledged by him , it touched him more than anyone else's recognition and made him feel relieved. Because Cale's back was bigger than anyone else's to Lark. He can not help it.
Awwwwww this was just so sweet😭🥹 Lock really looks up to cale and thinks of him as a father figure. Man we have been well fed with dad Cale these past chapters!

And for day 5, the last day of the Tcf twitter event the topic was Apple Pie
Beacrox cooking some apple pies because Raon's supply is running out
Tumblr media
And that's the least of it this was so much fun and so exhausting!
Happy Trash of the Count's Family 6th anniversary everyone! Thank you to Yoo Ryeo Han for creating this amazing novel! It's not an exaggeration when I say that Tcf has saved me more times than I can count in these past 2-3 years. I was on my last year of high school when I started it and now in one year I'm graduating from university. It's been almost 3 years time flies by so fast! Thank you to all the characters who brighten up my day by simply existing in that story. Thank you to the Tcf fandom for being some of the nicest and friendliest people I've ever had the joy of meeting and for never letting us run out of angst💪. And thank you to Cale because even though he hates being called this, he is my hero, he has saved me and many many others in real life during his journey. He didn't have to do anything big, he didn't have to gain any more powers, he just had to be there with his family getting into some shenanigans and never giving up on his dreams. Thank you. I don't think there will ever exist enough words to express how grateful I am for Tcf and Cale so really all I can say is thank you so so much for existing🫶💕
(Oh man I'm actually crying as I'm writing this I'm just so so grateful for TCF)

The one thing I always think about is the fact that White Star, that crazy bastard, had so much more than just 6 ancient powers -- but it was only revealed AFTER he was killed. And all of those went to Cale Henituse, as if it wasn't enough that the guy already had NINE!!
By the end of Part 1, he had, AT THE VERY LEAST, 7 ancient powers (not counting the Fire-Suppressing Water which was used up), 7 embraced ancient powers (because the Annual Rings of Life combined into 1, and this is not counting the White Star's other unnamed ancient powers), and 2 ancient artifacts. This also doesn't even count his 3 abilities or the divine items in his possession.
You think it's crazy for the people of that world to possess more than 1 ancient power? Well Cale Henituse is a powerhouse of more than 14 ancient powers, literal nature incarnate. God of Nature in human form. A natural multidimensional disaster.

Did we as a fandom collectively realize that both Alberu and Cale are going to live hella long. Like, Alberu is 25% dark elf and Cale has the vitality of the hearth. And I imagine Alberu does not want to be the Emperor for his whole life, so let's say ha passes on the mantel to someone else in his 60s. And now you have the ex-emperor and ex-commander who still look like they are in their 20s with nothing to do but bother each other in one of Cale's many properties. So at some point, out of boredom, a prank war is declared. And 'because they are both sneaky motherfucker's they get bored with pranking each other very quickly. So they, once again out of boredom, escalate the prank war. But this time they team up against everyone else just to see what they can do. 10 years later the prank war is nationwide, their companions saw through them pretty quickly so they had to escalate it again. 20 years later, the war has spread through the both continents. And I imagine that they found a way to do all of this without moving out of one of the mansions too much. They just sit and eat cookies while watching everything through the communication devices like it's reality TV.

So I've recently been re-reading TCF And chapter 196 is such an excellent example of how Cale interacts with the people around him, how he views himself and how they view him. This is also at the point in the novel where he hasn't really accepted that he is Cale now, not KRS, because he doesn't feel like he can.
So anyway, we start the chapter seeing the people of Rain City react to Cale's shield and they say something important!
"Won't he faint is he uses such a large shield? Why doesn't he just activate it when the northern bastards come?" "Can't you tell? He doesn't want to see us or the territory getting hurt at all."
At first, I thought this was just the regular drama of people reacting to Cale, but then Choi Han, the kids, and Ron tell him he's being ridiculous, and I realize the townsfolk are right.
The Wyvern Battle is only the 2nd or 3rd major battle Cale has been in so far but only as Cale. As KRS, he's done this before, and having read later chapters, we know Cale holds so much guilt over those battles and how he wanted to keep those he cared for away from it all but couldn't. After all, record only gives him information to guide them and make plans; he often couldn't physically protect them. How many times has he defended a shelter or teammates and wished he could have just covered them all with a shield instead of giving commands from the back? We know how guilty he feels over Choi Jung Soo and Lee Soo Hyuk's deaths.
He knows he doesn't have to keep it up, and he's the one who spreads a rumour that it's taking all of his energy, but he's already considering himself a "bad person" for taking military command and only giving orders. (except that's what it means to take military command?) There is absolutely another motive for keeping the shield around the city. Cale wants the opposing forces to view him as weakened, or he doesn't want people to think his power is as strong as it is. However, at the same time, he's absolutely protecting them because, just like the townsperson says, he doesn't want to see any of them get hurt by an attack he could have blocked.
Cale is doing what he can to undermine himself while claiming he's going to make everyone else the hero of this battle, but he won't drop the shield, which means no one can disregard or forget his involvement. It's not intentional! He's just literally made himself the first line of defense as a direct parallel to every time he was the last line as KRS. He wants to stay at the back, he does not plan to get involved unless he has to, but Cale won't let himself stay out of it. So the shield goes up and stays for multiple days.
Meanwhile, all Choi Han, Ron and the kids see is Cale surrounded by paperwork (because taking command of the entire Northeast is a lot of work), keeping a shield up that's known to make him cough up blood (they don't know about it getting stronger or the vitality of heart), and only sleeping 1 to 2 hours a night (thank you crybaby), so they assume it's a combination of work and concentration to keep the shield up. As usual, they're worried and frustrated at Cale's self-sacrificing tendencies.
We haven't even gotten to the actual battle yet, but this is such a great setup of how it's going to go and how the novel goes.

I want to hear about your favorite moments in TCF.
I have a long list, but I'll start with one that I don't hear people talk about much - Cale's conversation with Lock and Raon the night before the battle at the gorge.
First, I absolutely love how Cale handled Lock here. Lock is feeling like a failure, guilty, a coward - a whole bunch of negative things because he's no longer able to use his berserk transformation, and he thinks it's because he's afraid.
Cale - acts normal. It's hard to describe what that means, or why it matters. He just doesn't make a big deal out of it. Not like he's dismissing Lock's fears, but also not like he thinks Lock needs to be reassured.
This is right after Lock told Cale he couldn't go berserk. Rosalyn is also there, and the 'she' it starts with.
She heard a quiet voice at that moment. Pat. “Why is a young boy like you so skinny?” Rosalyn could see Cale pat Lock on the back before heading toward the tent entrance. Cale opened up the flap in order to exit as he looked toward Lock. “Let’s go.”
Cale just... Doesn't respond to the fear, but does show care and concern. And just treats Lock like normal (except in this case that's not really normal).
He then basically gets Lock to focus on the here and now, so Lock won't go into that headspace where he keeps feeling like he's a failure. He's preventing Lock from spiraling as he keeps thinking about what a failure he is.
Cale started to speak as soon as the young boy stopped right in front of him. “Focus on my back. Follow behind me and don’t think about anything else.”
And then he invites Lock to dinner. Just Lock, Raon, and Cale. Cale lets Lock talk, and then said something I absolutely love:
Lock’s mumblings stopped as soon as Cale asked a question. “Would you throw me away if I was weak?” “What-” Something like that was unbelievable. Lock throw Cale away? Lock’s eyes opened wide in shock as Cale smiled back at him. “Lock, you wouldn’t, right?” Cale picked his fork back up. “So, don’t ask something so obvious. Just eat.”
I love my progression fantasy, but the protagonists in those stories almost always have the same solution for every problem - get stronger.
To hear the protagonist say something like this is just so refreshing. Like - your worth is not tied up with being strong. You are a worthwhile person even if you can't destroy a wall with one punch. You wouldn't throw away someone else just because they were weak, so why are you being so hard on yourself?
And Raon hearing this leads into the final part, the conversation they have as they prepare for bed.
“By the way, human.” “What is it?” Cale made eye contact with the six-years-old Dragon who stopped connecting the device and looked toward him. Raon looked at Cale and asked. “I cannot go through my first growth phase. Is that okay?” ...
“Didn’t I answer that last time? Don’t ask me something so obvious.” “…Is it okay if I am weak?”
...
“Raon, although I am weaker than you, I’ve lived at least thirty, no, fifteen years more than you. But I am still weaker than you. I am not even as strong as you front paw. Is that a problem?” Cale realized his mistake and quickly changed the years before looking at Raon. “It is not a problem at all.”
There's more, but I've already copied enough so if you want to read the rest you should just go check that chapter out.
The thing here is that Raon, who was supposed to go through his first growth phase, couldn't. It now looks like he was afraid of how weak and vulnerable he would be during that.
And Cale, dense though he can be, perfectly reassures Raon.
Now if only that lovely, dense and yet wise man could treat himself with a fraction of the consideration he shows everyone else.
