I was curious and asked ChatGPT to write a fic for a rarepair of show without much fandom and it was the most generic ass shit. And it was like three paragraphs long, and somehow the two characters were 10-pages-worth-of-OOC for so little content. And it didn't even know what the characters did for a living (which is the plot of the show). And also ChatGPT won't write smut. (Believe me, I tried.) So yeah, no.

There is a . . . prolific author for a ship I like with like 10+ 200k+ word longfics, but I'll be honest, I cannot read it. The content may be exceptional, but their formatting is non-existent and I just can't. If there were a way to put their writing into an AI to just . . . make it readable . . . I still wouldn't do it. I thought about it. I thought about copy/pasting chunks like 2k characters at a time and asking it to fix it. But the idea made me feel scummy.

The only AI I want in my fics is GLaDOS going absolutely mental over how much she loves Chell, tyvm. And that should be written like all great fics: By horny fans.

I'll be upfront with my opinion, which mirrors my opinion in regards to my field: using AI will only hasten your own obsolescence. The point of fanfiction is not to crank out fics, but rather to enjoy the hobby and communities of writing and fandom.
