i think deciding to love someone continually is like reading the same book again, but each time finding a different line that hits deep and makes you think about something you didn't realize before. and you decide to read it again and again, knowing you'll never get enough of it, knowing you'll always find something new about them to love.

love this.
(i have been thinking about this. about writing as playing, as something you fundamentally do as an activity to enjoy, while you are at the same time learning, practicising. i am thinking about writing and love, and obsession, and how it can be embarassing to share what you wrote because you love it, to share something so obviously coming from you, as it has your weird specific obsessions. i have been taught my infodumping is annoying, i have been taught through these lessons my weird obsessions are embarassing, i have been taught to curate how and what i share. the last few years have been an exercise in unlearning (and sometimes people say: thank you, when i tell them something, and it makes my heart burst). the last few weeks i am starting to realise i should think about how this influenced my writing. this, this is a lovely exercise.
to write letters to what you love. to proclaim your love as if nothing but that love can hear it. if the people who share your obsessive love, find your letter, then they might feel less alone, embarassed, ashamed, for loving something to a point of obsession.
writing as playing, writing as play pretend, writing as telling your imaginary friends all your adventures)
if you write, make everything you write an elaborate love letter to something you love. I love roses and research, and the trained eye will notice that a lot of my stories are elaborate ploys to extol the virtues of roses and research. if you love lady sleuths, make everything you write a little bit tempting to put under a microscope. every girl you write is a little bit too nosy for her own good. if you love words, do like the great arab poets of old and collect ancient and unusual words for strange characters to use and come across. whether you write fanfiction, essays, or novels, everything should be self indulgent and ultimately display what you deem to be beautiful and worthy of attention
that’s my tip for living deliciously @yva
