finding an empty table without chairs, she looks to the table beside it that held a lone individual. would it be weird if she suddenly sat down next to someone she didn’t know? would it be even weirder if she sat in the next table without asking permission for taking a chair from the other table? what were the rules here at the cafeteria? she didn’t remember seeing any sign on the door when she had come in. 

alas, here she was fretting ; fingers tapping against the tray’s edges as she fidgets in place. her mouth clears, trying to let her voice rise about the others’ chatter from the neighboring tables. “um – can i take this chair?” 

sungyeol admittedly had always been a loner, preferring his own company  over everyone else, even when he was signed. it was definitely a different change from constantly being at home or on call with his editor but he actually really being at nova. it was a chaotic calming environment and a whole new challenge. when he’d first joined nova, almost two years ago now, he was unsure of what he wanted to do in life, but somehow everything began falling into place and while initially he had been convinced that he wanted to be in royal, he was glad that nova took a chance on his skills. but even so, he was still a loner and while he had friends at nova, some were already debuted and some were in other companies, so maybe he could relate to anyone in a similar spot. 

he twirled the stylus in his fingers, as he paused to think. 

hearing a voice beside him, he looked over with a casual grin. “yeah and if you want, you can just join me, there’s plenty of room at the table for us both,” he said, adjusting his tablet again and reaching for his cup of coffee. how many cups of caffeine had he already had today? ah, probably no matter. he offered her a grin. “i don’t think we’ve ever officially met since you’re one of the idols nowadays. he looks down at his notebook and sets aside the pencil that he’d been sketching with before leaning back in his chair and fixing her with a steely gaze. “hard is relative. i got ripped apart on when i appeared on mga4, first due to my lack of talent since I am more of an artist and more of a rock vocalist myself and then second due to the fact that i had to bring my daughter with me since there was no one available to watch her. that second aspect caused netizens to rip me to shreds without even looking into the circumstances, but i digress.” he says, thinking back to his time. “so because of how i was perceived on my season, i wouldn’t have gone back, but i jumped on the chance to coach on the fifth season because i could redeem myself like that,” he hums. he twirls the pencil with a soft chuckle. “it’s not whether you have the personality or you’d have fake it, it’s a matter of whether or not you’re interesting tv,” he says, grinning

“is it hard?” she asks, drumming the fingers of her free hand against the table beneath them. “i mean obviously it’s hard, but, how hard is it? i always thought i’d be good on tv, but now i’m thinking that i don’t have the personality for it. i guess i could always fake a personality for television … most people do that, don’t they?”

In hindsight maybe it were for the manga universe. “besides killing off the main character is becoming such a popular trend right now, that it’s becoming predictable. From stupid game of thrones to attack on titans- hyung please tell me you wont do that. I’m sure you’ll find more complex and creative way to go about the plotline.” Pouting as he goes on a tangent, knowing full well that the older man would not take offense in his passion. 

Seeing the other protest so much to his suggestion of spoiling the ongoing webcomic makes sungyeol giggle a bit at the other’s enthusiasm. He likes the fact that seokwoo is such a passionate fan of his work. It seemed tha even their connection wasn’t enough for seokwoo to exploit for spoilers of a comic. It makes sungyeol giggle.

As seokwoo explains that he decided to take extra art stuff since the next semester is around the corner, sungyeol nodded. “So, where would you have gone if you hadn’t been signed.” He asked, curious. If he hadn’t been signed or he hadn’t started drawing, sungeyol would have probably gone into the family business and become a doctor, or something smart and intelligent like that. “But extra practice makes sense before your classes start up again,” he nods.

He laughs loudly at the protest. “I could fake her death. I mean, in the official legend, Arthur dies after being fatally injured by mordred, so like it’s not unheard of,” he stated, seriously pondering the idea. As seokwoo stated that killing off the main character is such a popular trend that it’s almost predictable, sungyeol has to agree with him. “Yeah that is true, but Attack on Titan is a shonen manga so it’s to be expected that characters will die. The princesss sword is technically shoujo and you usually don’t see dramatic deaths in the shoujo genre. However, you are right. I could go about my season ending in a completely different way.” He adds, thinking.

He then looks at seokwoo. “How would you see it end in that case?” He asks, very serious. Hes intrigued in seokwoo thoughts.

september 2020 evaluation

Upon the arrival of evaluation day officially, sungyeol was slightly nervous. He wasn’t still entirely sure of his song choice but he hoped it would be okay and good enough to show off. Knowing that most of the other trainees chose to work in groups, sungyeol second guessed his decision to work solo and go by himself on an eval like this but he was sure that he wasn't the only one. 

Sometimes it was just easier to work solo on a such a personal evaluation. It was finally his turn though. Well too late to try and back out of this now.

"Im a  Virgo, no surprise there, right?" He states revealing his sign. He was motioned to start his song. Sungyeol took a deep breath and now there was officially no chance to back out. He was doing Fiction by Sumika the opening for Wotakoi. Nope, no chance.

He began singing, his voice cheerful and soft compared to his earlier nerves. He had fun learning the song and since Japanese was one of the languages that he was fluent in, sungyeol showed no hesitation on his words.

He was actually kind of glad that he'd chosen this song since it was already popular and even with the little hand dance that they did in the opening, he stayed super cute and very sure of himself as he did the hand dance. He giggled for a moment losing his notes but he found himself and kept singing as though he didn't mess up.

The song was meant to be fun and easy since the anime had that same vibe and he was a hardworker to show off the perfect performance. Of course it was no longer perfect but he truly did try to continue on as though nothing happened. It was harder to keep going knowing that he messed up earlier. Upon finishing the song, he took a bow and rushed out mentally kicking himself for messing up.

preparations: september 2020 evaluation        zodiac searches. 

sungyeol was not sure on the song that he could do. there wasn’t a lot of songs that embodied his zodiac sign. but as they got more details, sungyeol began thinking of what he could actually take on. he wasn’t sure which direction to go into, maybe he could go into the anime direction and sing an anime opening of some sort. 

he pondered on the anime op that he could do. maybe he could do a song from wotakoi: love is hard for otaku since that was a personal favorite anime for him and also he felt that the opening by Sumika represented the hardworking side of his zodiac.

Besides Japanese was right up his alley and he could pull off the simple fun vocals with some practice. He spent the remainder of his month looking for the lyrics and learning them since deciding on a song took the better part of two weeks after the evaluation was announced.

He figured he wasn’t going to be that bad of a singer since hes had some time to practice in his time at nova and hopefully the song he picked would fit the theme. Sungyeol learned that bit of the hand dance, thinking that it would be a fun thing to add to his performance at the end of the month.

That hand thing also took him about a week to learn and essentially perfect since it just looked easy but it was tough.

However, sungyeol wasn’t a quitter. That never was his way.
