There's a word for it and it's 'squick'. If something squicks you, it isn't your cup of it and you don't want to interact. And that's it.

No mental health connotations. No moral judgment. I like the word squick so much (in a roleplay context). I wish more people used it.

I'm a firm believer that people joining public roleplays (large groups and such, not 1x1's) shouldn't have the right to add names to the trigger list. If you've had a negative experience, fine, nobody should force you to roleplay with someone w/ that name. BUT. I also don't think it's fair to join an already-active, public roleplay and spout that nobody can use their existing characters with a name you have a problem with. It's not your roleplay. It's a group experience. It excludes everybody in the future who may have a character with that name (or everybody who may already be there w/ that name). If a name is such a serious trigger that you need it added to a list you should stick to individual 1x1's. (I should note that I never have a problem with triggers themselves bc it's easier for groups to come to a consensus about sex/gore content, and triggers like gore/non-con are much more common than the name chloe etc. limiting regular trigger content doesn't prevent anybody from joining, which is what I have a problem with when it comes to names.)

As someone with actual triggers, that sends me off into an anxiety attack when I'm around it... Triggers are NOT what tumblr people says it is. Just so you know kids, triggers don't mean "something that I don't like." or "something that makes me uncomfortable." I think another word needs to be made for this tbh. Like maybe "content warning"?

98% of the people on this hellsite wouldn't know what a trigger was if it LOOKED THEM IN THE EYE! I'm not putting a "trigger warning" on a post that says "They looked over the horizon" because you get butterflies in your stomach thinking about another human beings organs. I'm not "trigger warning" a post because someone SIPS ON A GLASS OF WATER! All of you bitching and moaning about this are a fucking laughing stock and I wish you a very stub your fucking toe.

one time I reached out to someone because they liked my ad and he started messaging me stuff like “I knew you’d come back Julia” “I knew it was you” i can’t remember the actual name but it was sure as hell fucking weird I blocked him so fast & was scared he’d make a new account for weeks after :^)

People need to stop questioning people's triggers. Just because you have never met someone who's uncomfortable role-playing with you for a reason that is not in the usual list of triggers (nothing to do with racism ofc), you don't question it. There aren't valid and non-valid triggers. If I don't want to rp with someone who lives in a two floors house or who owns a pony (just examples), that's all you need to know. You don't know what's behind someone's screen. Don't question. Just accept and find someone else to rp with.

watching someone vague my ad over here is so funny to me. i said fuck jkr in my ad because i wanted to be clear that i am not willing to accept transphobes. i'm trans myself. i don't buy her books or play her video games or support her in any fashion. i'm not even engaging with her online presence. i'm in a corner of tumblr roleplaying smut. all of my writing is private.

i feel like the "fuck jrk" comments aren't for regular roleplayers, they're for the other harry potter roleplayers that the ad hopes to attract. like previous anon said, they're still gonna roleplay it regardless. i feel like it's trying to distinguish between terf partners and normal partners. cause the rest of us are gonna look down on them no matter what.

i dunno if it’s just me who gets irked by this but the people who feel like they have to apologize in their ads for wanting to rp a controversial subject or media make me roll my eyes. I see it mostly in Harry Potter ads. If you’re gonna rp the media, just do it. It doesn’t have to be this huge ordeal bc you were gonna rp it whether or not you found the subject matter controversial.
