right as i posted this, rhonda started talking about how he should take a serial killer role in a slasher film -_-
luke james' character is also constantly doing weird creepy shit but what makes me wonder is that they never directly acknowledge that he's killing people. like if you're going to make the choice to basically introduce your killer to us from the start (which is what i assume they want us to believe) then why not commit to it the whole way? it makes me anticipate some kind of misdirect OR some other fuckery is going on (like maybe he doesn't know he's doing it, somehow) but whatever it is, it's an effective tool of suspense because i am always so on edge when he's on screen

also clearly we are dealing with some supernatural involvement here too given how worried this character is about televisions and reflective surfaces (all of which were notable at the original crime scene) but i can't tell if it's connected at all to season 1 (i don't remember but i don't think the entity there specifically utilized those things)

an interesting thing about this season so far is that is isn't really using dawn to be like. "the heroic cop protagonist" or even "the one good cop who tries to stop corruption from within". she's very complicit at times in a way that the narrative acknowledges (like when she starts chasing that guy at the second crime scene and leads the other cops right to him and his baby) but also like, as a black woman, there are still a lot of differences vs. the other cops in how she handles herself in a high stakes situation, how much less reactive she is, how aware of herself and her weapon she is, etc. it's just cop drama being used as a useful tool of analysis in a way you rarely see because shows are too busy either absolving the institution or at least an individual character within it

fandom tumblr was another casualty of streaming services. we used to be on here posting about the episodes that were coming out weekly and posting gifs and writing insane shit about the tv shows we liked. now a new season of a show will drop and we’ll talk about it for a week. two weeks tops. and then that show will leave collectively conscious for 1+ year till the next season drops. there’s a reason succession sundays was a blast on here
we used to have real television

this is going to sound simplistic + i promise you it's not: stop following people whose entire schtick is being cruel or fighting with others online. even if the ppl deserve it! even if it's not a ~problematic~ cruelty! even if you agree with all of that blog's opinions!
it's one thing if someone snaps back when provoked or posts the occasional "get a load of this guy". nobody needs to play up respectability for people who haven't given them respect in return. but if someone's online identity centers around being needlessly mean for laughs + they're constantly seeking out socially acceptable, easy targets for petty cruelty, that's a red flag. there's a huge difference between not taking shit/cracking a joke + mocking others as your several-hours-a-day hobby.
especially if, when they are inevitably in the wrong + mocking someone mercilessly to their 50k followers over something petty goes south (shocking!), they become extremely defensive or block everyone or play the victim or dismiss it as "well, how was i supposed to know they were autistic? i'm autistic + i don't meow in public" or whatever.
this isn't a "well i knew all along" post bcuz nobody should be shamed for being in the dark about something like this but many of the popular bloggers who have later been exposed for serious harassment or abuse should not have shocked us. if someone's blog is 90% shit like "you should light yourself on fire because you watch x anime" or "look at this so-called lesbian bitch + her ugly fucking boyfriend at a kink convention- it's giving drowned rats", should it really shock you that they are also being cruel or abusive in less internet-acceptable ways? if they've already shown you that they get a such a thrill out of being vicious that they do it daily + are regularly rewarded with thousands of followers?
