"If Education is expensive, try ignorance". The above saying might be right but only to those who can afford it. And only an enabling environment will make one succumb to the saying.
Less than 24-hours after the Ajasin Varsity Management opened the student portal for necessary registration; the most controversial of the issue is the new tuition fee.
Over the months, various reactions has trail the news of the fee hike but everyone was expecting something official-and they got it. Despite the stakeholders' meeting, we still have people who would pay 200,000 as tuition fee. So sad.
In the last few hours, I had received calls from students who are still trying to confirm what has been confirmed on the portal. The reactions are emotional. A mixture of sarcastic laughter and sadness.
Comments on FACEBOOK and other Social Media has revealed the lack of hope of students (I might be inclusive). Most of these students are opting for a DROPOUT. They seems not to be ready to cope. The increment is about 500%.
One had called me and told me categorically that he is going back to pick HND form. So sardonic. One told me she will stop schooling and face other things.
Countless number of emotional dropout letters has been written both offline and online. The blood pressure of some students would have risen beyond normal, especially those who are self reliant.
I know of people who hawks Doughnut; those who sells moi moi;those who sells clothes;we have those who sells recharge, etc just to fend for themselves. Now the hope of Education is dwindling before them.
There might be a cause for the increment by ONDO STATE GOVERNMENT but very needful to predict the Effect. It is glaring that most students would halt schooling;leave of absence form will run out;Crime rate might increase;internal pain and agony.
How else will Ajasin Students plead for mercy and consideration?

Senate President, Abubakar Bukola Saraki has said that lack of due engagement with the parliament may force majority of senators to oppose President Muhammadu Buhari’s approval to withdraw $1 billion to fund purchase of security equipment.
Saraki also blamed unending Executive, Legislature friction on lack of consultation and collaboration between the two arms.
He said that some senators who spoke to him on the approved $1 security fund were uncomfortable that the President would approve the expenditure of such huge some of money without recourse to the National Assembly.
The Senate President did not however say whether the upper chamber will block the use of the fund for what President Buhari intended.
Saraki spoke in Jos, Plateau State on Saturday  at a retreat on “Strengthening Executive-Legislature Relations”.
It is expected that President Buhari’s approval of $1 billion for purchase of security equipment would be one of the topical issues for debate when the Senate resumes plenary on Tuesday.
The Senate President who insisted that Nigerians must be prepared to defend and protect the institution of the parliament, noted that government was all about institutions and not individuals.
He said that the number of blackmails some of them have received for doing the right thing was simply alarming.
He said that it is obvious that the National Assembly is constantly under attack by individuals who abhor the principles of separation of powers as enshrined by democratic doctrine.
Saraki insisted that protection of the institution of the parliament was the only way sustainable democracy could be guaranteed in the country “because without the legislature there will be no democracy.”
He also stressed the need to always do the appropriate thing at the appropriate time for things to work in the country.
On the approval of the $1 billion security equipment fund, Saraki said: “There is no way the security architecture of this country can work without a strong synergy between the executive and the legislature. When you see certain agencies who by their actions and utterances frustrate the relationship between the two arms, you begin to wonder what is going on..
Also Read: Saraki faults Lai Mohammed on tagging of Senators as looters
“What do we need to do? Do the police need more funding or more powers? Do they need new legislations to strengthen them. These are the issues where the executive and the legislature must work together. What do we need to do?
“Just few days ago, the issue of providing funding for the purchase of security equipment was in the news. In a good environment, such an issue needed to have been discussed with lawmakers. Already, some senators are angry. They said they were not consulted by the executive before such a decision was taken. These are the issues we are talking about. Some people have already taken position because they were not consulted. That is why I stressed the issue of collaboration between the two arms. The issue of engagement is important.”
The Senate President who said that friction between the two arms of government goes beyond party affiliations, noted that “even during the last administration of President Goodluck Jonathan, the executive and legislature, had some frictions.”
According to him, “It means it is not about the party. It is not about any individual. It is about the system.”
Saraki said that it seemed officials of the executive arm have formed the habit of always blackmailing senators and members of the House of Representatives.
He expressed concern over the release of names of senators tagged as looters by the Minister of Information and Culture, Mr. Lai Mohammed.
He said, “In a situation where a particular arm of government stands up and calls people from another arm of government thieves, looters and other names, how can we work together? How? It is not possible. It is not realistic. If we collaborate, the country will be better for it.”
He also wondered how President Buhari could write the National Assembly to endorse N4.6 trillion capital market bond without first discussing the issue with the leadership of both chambers.
“Imagine the Federal Government wants to raise a N4.6 trillion bond from the capital market. The leadership of the National Assembly first heard about it through a letter written by the President. This is what happens.
“I needed to be here to speak on these issues. It is not just about today. Posterity will be here to judge us that what I am saying is true. If we do not change the way we behave, we will remain like this for many years to come.”
Also on how heads of Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) are allegedly frustrating the passage of the 2018 budget, the Senate President said that the executive arm should be held responsible.
“If you want to strengthen democracy, the priority of everybody should be to strengthen the legislature. If you do not defend the legislature, there is no way our democracy will be strengthened because government is not built on individuals. It is built on institutions.
“That is why in developed countries, governments can change, but it does not affect the stability of their democracy because their institutions are strong. We decided to run a presidential system of government. By its nature of checks and balances, there is bound to be frictions. The question now, how healthy is that friction?
“If you take the 2018 budget for example, even before people had bothered to find out where the cause of the delay is coming from, people were already attacking and blaming the legislature.
“When I led the leadership of both chambers of the National Assembly, with the Speaker of the House of Representatives to see Mr. President, he came to the meeting briefed as if the delay was that of the National Assembly. He was humble enough at the end of the discussion to render an apology.”
On confirmation of nominees, Saraki said that the executive must realize that the legislature has the constitutional duty to confirm, while nomination lies with the executive.
He said that no attempt must be made to weaken the legislature in the interest of sustenance of democracy in the country.

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) says there is no plastic fish in circulation in Nigeria.
NAFDAC Management said in a statement in Abuja on Thursday that its finding followed “a thorough investigation and analysis of some unsuspected plastic fish samples’’ in its laboratory.
The agency said that “the investigation was triggered by a report from a consumer in Abuja who claimed that he bought a fish which refused to cook when set on fire for several minutes.
“The suspected sample of the fish, after thorough investigation, was confirmed to contain protein and fat which is normal to fish.
“The fish was, however, found to be unwholesome due to serious bacterial contamination, NAFDAC said.
“While encouraging Nigerians to watch carefully the kind of fish they buy, it is however important to stress that there is no plastic fish in Nigeria.’’
The management noted that few weeks ago, there had been the circulation of suspected plastic fish in some parts of the world on the social media but stressed that no single case had been found in Nigeria, so far.
The agency urged Nigerians to“ report any suspected unwholesome product, including fish to the nearest NAFDAC office for further investigation’’.(NAN)

A religious group United Christian Leaders Eagle Eye Forum (UCLEEF) has rejected calls in some quarters especially from the Governors of the All Progressives Congress (APC), urging President Muhammadu Buhari to run for a second term.
The group through its National Chairman, Pastor Aminchi Habu, rejected the calls on Thursday during a press conference/inauguration of an Advisory Board for the group in Abuja.
Habu said the APC led-government has failed Nigerians going by its inability to solve the security challenges, youth unemployment issue, stabilize the economy and reduce poverty in the country.
According to him, it is time for northern leaders and their counterparts in the south to unite and present a formidable candidate that will take over from the present government.
“We are calling on prominent Nigerians like Gen. Yakubu Gowon (rtd), Gen. Ibrahim Babangida (rtd), Gen. Abdusalami Abubarkar (rtd), and Gen. Aliyu Gusau (rtd), to team up and work together towards presenting a formidable candidate who will be accepted by all Nigerians in the 2019 Presidential Election.
“Prof. Jerry Gana, Sen. Ibrahim Mantu, Gen. Theophilous Danjuma (rtd); Emir of Zazzua, Dr Shehu Idris; the Northern Elders Forum (NEF); the Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF); leaders of Northern Youths Organizations and other prominent Nigerians are not left out in this call,” Habu said.
He urged the youths to actively participate in the political process by obtaining their PVCs so as to wrestle power from the “old brigade politicians” who have ran out of ideas.
He also urged the youths not to mortgage their future for the peanuts they get from the current political elite who have taken the country several steps backwards.
“Just like PDP failed Nigerians before the 2015 election, APC as a party has also failed Nigerians ahead of 2019 election.
“All we see within the ruling party is disunity, and the party is good at blaming PDP for their incompetence to bring solution to Nigeria’s problem.
“And it is also a shame that the party members are fighting themselves in almost all the states of the country.
“If they can’t coordinate themselves, then, how can they coordinate Nigeria; so, on this point, I am saying that PDP and APC have failed Nigeria and we can’t allow them to rule us again.
“In 2015, Nigerians where looking for a saviour to bring them out of hardship, and APC promised us a bright future under the change mantra if elected; the result is this present hardship,” Habu added.

Daredevil armed robbers yesterday’s evening attacked some commercial banks in Offa, Kwara state.
The Armed robbers killed scores of  people, including police men, complainants, bank customers and market people in the process.
Men of the underworld also  reportedly carted away unspecified amount of money in different currencies.
It was learnt that the bandits, who operated for about an hour, entered the town around 4:45pm and operated till about 5:40pm as they first reportedly blocked roads from both Ilorin and Osogbo ends.
They were said to  escape through Igosun, a neighbouring community with their loot .
It was also gathered that the armed bandits first approached the Offa divisional police station on entering the ancient town, killing policemen on duty among other people at the station, before raiding the commercial banks and killing people by shooting them on the head.
Among the police men killed by the armed robbers that reportedly operated in commando style, was a man identified as Pelemo, who was expected to retire in few months and a pregnant police woman.
An eyewitness said that corpses of six policemen were taken away in his presence, while efforts were being made to bring out others inside the police station.
It was also gathered that the bandits, who numbered about 15, came in different vehicles as they stationed themselves at strategic areas of the town, as it was reported that they also snatched commercial motorcycles to operate and escape.
It was learnt that the general hospital, Offa, where the injured victims were taken, was already over populated by those who secured varying degrees of injury and gun wounds.
The spokesman of the state police command, Ajayi Okasanmi, who confirmed the bank raid, said that victims included policemen and other individuals.
He said that details of the bank robbery would be made after a full investigation on the incident

Students are being compelled to evict the halls of residence. And students' belongings are being thrown out of the hostel.
The management is probably on a renovation plan but the adopted style is hurting to the students.
Certain report reaching me so moments ago said that Security Operatives entered a particular Hostel and chased students with sticks.
An information reaching me says that a particular student almost broke his leg in an attempt to escape be beaten by the operatives.
Resumption date has been shifted for about 3 times now. Some students were arrested for protesting against the school's unfavorable policy. Even the Student Union has been threatened.
Is this the same thing we shall continue to face in our institution all over? What has really gone wrong. The students are also demanding #OgunbodedeMustGo.
Who did Nigerian Students offend? Is this the course for which #Awolowo and his counterparts fought for?
What and who will salvage the situation? Our #Education is facing rot, heading towards a quagmire.
Who shall help us. #ReviveOurEducation   #OAU     #FreeOau5

Anyaoku, Tinubu, Ukiwe eulogise statesman at 90
Former President Olusegun Obasanjo, who has been campaigning against President Muhammadu Buhari’s re-election, has been described as a failure by elder statesman Chief Ayo Adebanjo.
In his autobiography titled Telling it as it is, which was presented in Lagos yesterday as part of activities to mark his 90th birthday, Adebanjo described Obasanjo’s presidency between 1999 and 2007as a “tragedy” and a “calamity”.
Devoting two pages – 187 and 188 – to the Obasanjo presidency, Adebanjo wrote: “The man who carried on as if he was all-in-all failed woefully on all counts as President. His eight-year tenure (1999-2007) was a tragedy. His scorecard is nothing to write home about. What did he do in eight years? Before he came, we were buying fuel (petrol) for N20 per litre, and crude oil was $23 per barrel. In 2007, under his regime, we were buying fuel at N75 per litre, and crude oil was between $65 and $75 per barrel. In the worst days of Abacha, one dollar was over N120.”
Adebanjo was a disciple of the late Chief Obafemi Awolowo. He was a member the Action Group (AG) in the First Republic and the Unity Party of Nigeria (UPN) in the Second Republic.
At the beginning of this Republic, he was a member of the Alliance for Democracy (AD).
He also wrote in the book that Obasanjo humiliated the late Awolowo, when the latter visited him to discuss the interest of the Yoruba when Obasanjo became the military head of state after the assassination of Gen. Murtala Mohammed on February 13, 1976.
Adebanjo wrote: “There are many incidents to show that Obasanjo was anti-Yoruba. He has no interest in, or sympathy for the Yoruba cause, he only has his own interest for everything he does. That is my conclusion, and I have copious evidence to prove it.”
Adebanjo also blamed Obasanjo for the collapse of the AD by picking the late Chief Bola Ige, a member of the AD, as a minister in 1999 against the wish of the party.
He said: “As far as I am concerned, the moment Bola Ige joined Obasanjo’s government, following his (Bola Ige) loss of AD’s presidential primaries where he polled six votes against Chief Olu Falae’s 17, marked the beginning of the end for the party. In my opinion, these are the scenarios which led to the collapse of the AD.”
Extolling the virtues of Adebanjo, All Progressives Congress (APC) stalwart Asiwaju Bola Tinubu said he regarded him as a great leader who is committed to democracy.
Tinubu, who strolled into the hall unexpectedly, told the audience that he was on his way to Abuja to attend his party’s meeting when he was informed that Adebanjo’s book launch was holding today (yesterday) and he decided to be there, even if it was for only two minutes.
He described the celebrator as “a nationalist worthy of emulation. “He has been a father to all of us in politics; he is a man of principle, who is always ready to defend his position on any issue”, Tinubu said of the nonagenarian.
He went on: “If not for his honour and integrity, I wouldn’t have been Lagos State Governor.  He stood against rigging the Alliance for Democracy (AD) governorship primary in 1999. He insisted that direct primary should hold. And when the result came, some people wanted to manipulate the result; Adebanjo stood his ground that the result of the primary should be upheld. If he had been a corrupt leader, he would have taken money and my name would have been substituted.
“I respect you; you are a mentor to me. We can disagree. If you call me a rebel, you taught me the act of rebellion. If I go the other side, I am not a bastard, I have a good father. Please, continue on the path of integrity and honesty you are known for.
“You can’t but praise and honour him for his principled stance on restructuring. Restructuring means true federalism; there should be opportunity for each federating unit to govern according to its blueprint; it is about management of resources. I agree with Chief Adebanjo on this. We thank God for you and want you to continue to serve humanity in good health.”
Former Commonwealth Secretary General Chief Emeka Anyaoku described Adebanjo as one of those responsible for creating the history of Nigeria. He described him as a symbol of passion for Nigerian success.
Anyaoku recalled that Nigeria was doing well with four regions, with each region developing at its pace. “If we are to talk about the progress we made in those days, we think of Awolowo’s achievements in the old Western Region, first in their nature: free primary education, first television service in Africa and prudent management of Western Region resources. In the Easteern Region, under Dr Azikiwe and later Dr Michael Okpara, agricultural development was significant. The North under late Ahmadu Bello was renowned for groundnuts pyramids, cotton and high quality hide and skin that were sought for by foreign countries. There was healthy competition among the regions.
“If the military had not intervened in 1966 and remained in power for long, Nigeria could have developed.  I don’t know how a country with much diversity like Nigeria can develop without true federalism which Awolowo advocated and struggled for throughout his life. Adebanjo was his associate and has remained a true disciple of Awo’s legacies.”
He said: “Adebanjo is very focussed. I continue to be amazed by the prowess he demonstrates at 90. I am 85 and I am looking forward to be 90 and retain the same attributes that Adebanjo has.”
The book reviewer, Professor Wale Adebanwi, said  Adebanjo’s early embrace of political conflicts and battles and his unflagging boldness in the face of tyranny have made him one of the most formidable and consistent political fighters the country has ever known.
Adebanwi noted: “There is a certain joy that politics brings to the author which triumphs over all the disappointments and the disabilities of the political system; there is a certain peace that his moral vision invests him with that is undisturbed by the perennial crises and political violence that he has lived through and that surround him.
“To be able to account for this paradox, we need to read the first three chapters of this book which locate the personal and the political and then unite them in a certain embrace of the world that explains his irrepressible, stern but cheerful nature and the vigour of his ideological convictions.”
He said the author raised the question of Chief Bola Ige’s decision to join the Obasanjo administration, which might be ranked as one of the gravest, and as it turned out , most fatal political errors ever committed by leading progressive politician in Nigeria’s history.. However, the author described Ige as “brilliant”, one of the greatest Awoists.
Adebanjo thanked all that came to honour him on the occasion. He urged the guests to donate to his Foundation by buying the book. He said the proceeds would go to the Foundation that would keep managing his church in his country home, Isanya Ogbo near Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State.
At the occasion were Commodore Ebitu Ukiwe (retd), who was the chairman, former governors of Ogun State Chief Olusegun Osoba and Otunba Gbenga Daniel; former Deputy Governors of Lagos State Mr. Kofo Bucknor-Akerele and Mr. Femi Pedro; business moguls Mr Tony Elumelu and Oba Otudeko; Chief Olu Falae, Prof. Tunde Adeniran; Secretary to Ogun State Government Chief Taiwo Ade Oluwa, who represented Governor Ibikunle Amosun, his counterpart from Ondo State, Mr Ifedayo Abegunde, who stood in for Governor Rotimi Akeredolu, the wife of the Ogun State Governor,  Mrs Olufunso Amosun,  Senator Musiliu Obanikoro, Alhaji Tanko Yakakasai and Chief Bakare Oluwalogbon.
Others were Chief Kola Daisi,  Pastor Tunde Bakare, Mr. Sam Amuka Pemu, Mrs Nike Akande,  Prof. Banji Akintoye, Dr Tokunbo Awolowo-Dosumu, Prof.Pat Utomi, Mrs Bisola Clark, Mrs Ibukun Awosika, Mrs Omotola Oyediran, Dr. Doyin Abiola and Dr Kanyin Ajayi.

Lagos State Police Command said yesterday it recovered 188 guns and 280 ammunition between September and last weekend.
Police Commissioner Imohimi Edgal, who spoke at a news briefing in Ikeja, said among the weapons were those voluntarily returned by residents in compliance with directives of the Inspector-General of Police (IG), Ibrahim Idris.
The IG ordered owners of illegal arms to return them from March 1 to April 28 or be arrested.
Edgal said the command had made efforts in the recovery of illegal arms.
Giving a breakdown, he listed the arms as 38 pump action rifles, six AK47 rifles, 12 double barrel guns, 70 locally-made cut-to-size single guns, 42 locally-made double barrel shot guns, 18 locally-made revolvers and three Barretta pistols.
The police commissioner said: “We have recovered arms from bandits and those voluntarily returned to the police armoury by their owners, who took advantage of the 21-day grace period given by the IGP for anyone in possession of illegal and prohibited firearms to hand them over to the police.
“Thirty eight pump action rifles, six AK47 rifles, 12 double barrel rifles,11 single barrel rifles, 70 single barrel locally-made cut-to-size short guns, 42 locally-made double barrel short guns, 18 locally-made revolver pistol and three barretal pistols have been recovered.
“In total, we have 188 recovered guns, 220 cartridges and 60 7.62 MM AK47 ammunition. These guns were recovered between September 2017 and March 2018. We urge anyone in possession of prohibited firearms to return them, as we will soon get to the next stage of the exercise, which is going into houses, buildings and other structures to recover prohibited firearms.”
He said some of the weapons were recovered from a car snatching syndicate specialising in stealing posh vehicles.
Edgal said they usually stole vehicles from other parts of the country and brought them to Lagos for sale as fairly-used (Tokunbo) cars.
He said Ridwan Mamud, 23; Oyesanmi Kazeem, 31 and Usman Umar, 42, were arrested at their Ajegunle hideout, adding that seven vehicles were recovered from them.
The police boss said: “The recovered vehicles are Toyota Highlander 2012 model (APP965CY), Toyota RAV4 (RBC864HW), Toyota Matrix, Toyota Camry saloon car, Blue Honda saloon car, ash Mazda space bus, all without registration numbers.
“The second set of weapons were recovered from members of an armed gang who were arrested after they stole a Lexus sport utility vehicle where it was parked in front of a hotel in Ajah. Their arrest followed a complaint made by Ajayi Adedotun on March 19. Based on the complaint, operatives of the Federal Special Anti- Robbery Squad (FSARS) went after the fleeing gunmen and nabbed them.”

Villa meeting inconclusive
Anxiety over ‘predictable’ advisory panel
Despite President Muhammadu Buhari’s admonition, some All Progressives Congress (APC) governors are still bent on tenure extension for the party’s National Working Committee (NWC), led by Chief John Odigie-Oyegun.
They say the party does not need to conduct congresses and national convention, but the President has warned the governors against illegal acts capable of making the party to lose the 2019 poll on technical grounds.
The party has inaugurated a Technical Committee on the future of the NWC. But, a big row has broken out over the committee’s membership.
Some members of the committee are said to be the sponsors of the tenure elongation motion at the penultimate National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting.
The President yesterday met with APC governors following a split among them over his advice at last Tuesday’s National Executive Committee meeting that the party should hold congresses and a national convention to elect new executives.
Governors at the meeting include Yahaya Bello (Kogi), Jubrilla Bindow (Adamawa), Badaru Abubakar (Jigawa), Rauf Aregbesola (Osun), Atiku Bagudu (Kebbi), Rotimi Akeredolu (Ondo) and Abdufattah Ahmed (Kwara).
Also at the meeting were Godwin Obaseki (Edo), Abdullahi Ganduje (Kano) and Tanko Al- Makura (Nasarawa). Kashim Shettima (Borno) and Rochas Okorocha (Imo),
Others include Akinwunmi Ambode (Lagos), Abiola Ajimobi (Oyo), Abubakar Sani Bello (Niger), Aminu Tambuwal (Sokoto), Abdulaziz Yari (Zamfara), Simon Lalong (Plateau), Samuel Ortom (Benue), Nasir El-Rufai (Kaduna) and Ibikunle Amosun (Ogun).
The governors declined comments on the meeting which started at 2:14 p.m and ended around 3.30 p.m.
One of the governors confirmed that they were directed not to speak with reporters.
The governors met briefly among themselves before the President’s arrival.
A source at the session said: “We were given a sheet of paper which indicated only the hall at the Presidential Villa where the session will hold.
“The sheet was without agenda, indicating that the President did not want tempers to rise before taking his seat.
“In his opening remarks, the President made it clear that the essence of the meeting was for ‘the APC family to come and reconcile our position with regards to the continuation or non-continuation of the Oyegun-led NWC in office.”
He said the meeting was to “see how we will work towards successful conduct of congresses and National Convention”.
The source however said although six leaders, including the President, spoke, there was tension such that they could not agree on a “definite position”.
“We opted to hold another meeting by 9pm  to take a final position.”
Another source at the meeting said: “The President convened the meeting in order to discuss the minor differences we have had since the President told NEC meeting that it was better to hold elective congresses and National Convention.
“Many views were expressed for and against the one-year tenure extension for the NWC. There was a lot of rationalisation of ideas by those who wanted Oyegun’s tenure extended.
“At the session, Governors El-Rufai, Akeredolu, Yahaya Bello and Simon Lalong were vehement on why the tenure of the NWC should be extended by one year.
“Each of them stood up to rationalise the tenure extension by claiming that whatever the NEC does is legal and it won’t have consequences on the legality of APC’s electoral victory in 2019.
“They warned that congresses and National Convention could divide the party and lead to a split before the 2019 polls. They said it would be better to keep the party united than leaving it in disarray.
“But other governors queried the affront of pro-tenure elongation governors in revisiting the advisory of the President on the need to follow the 1999 Constitution and the APC Constitution.
“Those who supported Buhari’s position expressed disappointment that Oyegun went ahead to inaugurate a technical committee which they considered to be an ‘affront to the President.”
Another source said: “After many arguments for and against, the President repeatedly warned APC governors to be careful and stick to the provisions of the 1999 Constitution and APC Constitution.”
“The President said we must conduct party activities within the laws in order not to lose the 2019 elections.
“Following that note of caution from the President, we opted to hold another meeting by 9pm on Tuesday.”
The source added: “We know why some governors were desperate for tenure elongation. They had issues in their states and they are overwhelmed with fears that their second term bid might be difficult because they might not be able to determine the outcome of the congresses in their states.
“We are watching if they will now ask us to ignore the President’s advice.”
The source added: “While the drama was playing out, the Vice President and some experienced governors just listened, without speaking.”
A governor from the north, who is backing the President’s position, spoke exclusively with our correspondent.
He said: ” Mr. President is the leader of the party and a leader with such substantial support and loyalty from our members. I think his views should be respected. Even if his views are different from our position, as loyalists, we should look deeper into it.
“We need to respect the President’s perspective, more so when such a position is in tandem with the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and APC Constitution. As democrats, we should be at peace with such a position.
“In any case, the President’s position on the basis of law has not violated our rules and the 1999 Constitution. The President is always mindful of the rule of law and due process.”
Also, there is anxiety among the NWC members over the constitution of a Technical Committee to review President Buhari’s advice against tenure elongation.
An NWC member said members were not consulted by the national chairman before he picked the committee members. Most of the members are for tenure elongation, he said.
“The chairman only informed us that he has set up the panel. Ordinarily, we should sit down and consider each nominee on merit.
“Look at the list: Governors El-Rufai, Akeredolu, Lalong are tenure elongation proponents  and others like Legal Adviser Muiz Banire and the external legal advisers who are even defending the tenure elongation in court are members,” he said, adding:
“It is an open secret that these governors were coordinating the mobilization of support for tenure extension for all of us in the NWC.
“The outcome of the assignment of the Technical Committee is predictable.  It will work to the answer. We have some apolitical members on the committee but pro-tenure extension members will sink their voices.
“Once we allow a Caretaker Committee to nominate our candidates, the election will be half won by either PDP or any coalescing party. Such a committee is an aberration to the APC Constitution.
“Before we went for Easter holidays, Oyegun repeatedly said he would constitute an ‘independent technical committee’ and we were wondering if such a panel will be higher than the party or NWC.
“It is unfortunate that some governors are just out to create a crisis in the party. If they want any NWC member back, all they have to do is to canvass for votes at the National Convention or they can meet with other leaders for consensus on candidates.”

Lagos State government yesterday called for more input and collaboration of stakeholders in the review of its policy on education.
Deputy Governor Dr Idiat Adebule spoke at a Stakeholders’ Engagement Forum on the Review of the Lagos State Policy on Education, organised by the Ministry of Education.
She said non-governmental organisations, civil societies, parents, traditional leaders, religious leaders, educationists and development partners had a role to play in the quest for quality education.
According to her, the society’s quest for sustainable growth and development is anchored on the guarantee of effective and efficient education sector.
“The state government realised the need to review the education policy in the state which was last reviewed in 1998.
“There are emerging issues in the sector and there is the need to update and re-align the old policy with current realities and global best practices.
“The new policy will seek to inculcate appropriate knowledge, attitudes, values and skills for individual, state and national development.
” A review committee was constituted in January 2016 to provide a functional framework for the delivery of effective, efficient and access to inclusive education.
“We will appreciate your continued collaboration and cooperation to achieve our collective aim of making education very effective and efficient for the benefit of our dear state,” she said.
Adebule, who doubles as commissioner for Education, pledged that the ministry will justify the huge investment on education.
“The Lagos State budget for education in the last three years have been huge, in particular, the current year’s education budget stands at 12.07 per cent; the third largest in the 2018 budget.
“This is a clear demonstration of this administration’s desire to ensure accelerated growth in the education sector and expand access to quality education in the state.
“To justify this huge investment, the ministry has positioned itself to continuously invent sustainable strategies and structures that meet global trends,” she said.
Speaking on the topic, ‘Education Policy Review: The Journey So Far’, Prof. Peter Okebukola, a former Executive Secretary National Universities Commission (NUC), said that the policy document should promote creativity on how students could address new challenges of the 21st century.
